Ranawana Purana Raja Maha Viharaya is situated in Yatinuwara, Pilimathalawa. It is one of the most beautiful temples in Sri Lanka and is tightly bound with nature. Apart from the usual characteristics of a temple, this temple has a trail in to the forest. ❤

(Translated by Google) Ranawana purana Rajamaha Viharaya. Ranawana Ancient Rajamaha Viharaya. Nanu Oya Bridge on the Kandy-Colombo Road This temple is found about a kilometer down the road from the top. Due to the creation of the largest walking Buddha statue in the world, this temple has become a very popular temple among the people. The history of Ranawana Vihara is believed to date back to the reign of King Bhuvanekabahu IV during the Gampola period. During the renovation work of the Dagaba of the temple in the year 1982, a metal casket was found. This temple is very famous because there is the highest Buddha's statue 🙏🏻 in the whole world. The temple located in a hill and there are so many statues made by cement those telling story of Lord Buddha.Very attractive statues are "80 Arhath Monks" statues called "Asù Mahã Shrawakayan". Entrance has a remarkable "Thorana" made like "Sãnchi Thorana" in India🇮🇳. There are so many staircases in the temple. There is car park also in the temple premises.

When visiting Sri Lanka, you absolutely must stop by this temple, which is home to the tallest walking figure of Sri Buddha in the entire world. It is situated in a serene area that is entirely covered by forests. There are stairs built to go to the top, where you can observe the statue of Sri Buddha and other historical events portrayed in the shape of statues. Before entering the temple, you must take off your sandals, and there is a place for them to be stored. Women should be covering their elbow and knee while there.

The calm ascetic environment and some modern features including the tallest walking Buddha statue in the country have made this temple an attractive place.

It is a beautiful place in sri lanka. Everybody should go there at least once in life time. You can feel the nature and they have developed all the statues without harming to nature. So if someone plane to go there my advice is go after 4.00 pm or early in the morning. Just because of sun. You may unable to walk in some aria of the premises ..

The Ranawana Temple is a relatively new Buddhist temple that was built in the traditional Sri Lankan style. It is known for its beautiful architecture, which features intricate carvings and decorative motifs. The temple is also surrounded by lush greenery and offers stunning views of the surrounding hills and countryside. One of the most impressive features of the Ranawana Temple is its statue of the Buddha, which stands at 46 meters tall and is one of the tallest Buddha statues in Sri Lanka. The statue is made of concrete and covered in gold leaf, and is an impressive sight to behold. Visitors can climb up a series of stairs to the base of the statue and take in the panoramic views from the top. In addition to the statue of the Buddha, the Ranawana Temple is also home to a number of other religious and cultural artifacts, including various shrines, paintings, and statues. The temple also hosts regular religious ceremonies and cultural events, such as Vesak and Poson. Overall, the Ranawana Temple is a must-visit destination for anyone traveling to Kandy. Its stunning architecture, beautiful surroundings, and rich cultural heritage make it a fascinating and memorable experience for visitors.

This is a temple full of stairs. There's almost nothing other than stairs. The walk around the temple is so tiring. The things to watch don't worth the effort. Just Cement statues. No art no quality. If you are a person with special needs such as a wheelchair, has knee issues or old, this is not your place. If you like a walk through the jungle with some cement statues around, then this is the best place for you..
