(Translated by Google) The left tooth relic of the Buddha is in this Dalada Maligawa. This place was first built by King Wimaladharmasuriya I, King Wimaladharmasuriya II and Sri Wickramarajasinghe to 2 storeys and some other beautiful things. The museum is also located in the Dalada Maligawa and it is a great place to see many antiquities. However, it is permitted to visit the museum to see if it is open. Today Diyawadana Nilame is in charge of the Sacred Tooth Relic and the Temple of the Tooth Relic. All the Thevas etc are done correctly and the two main Sangha sects perform the services. This Buddhist temple in Kandy is a true gem that should be on your list when visiting the city. If you plan your visit for the afternoon, particularly after 6:00pm, you'll have the unique opportunity to witness the mesmerizing evening ceremony, though be prepared for the vibrant and lengthy music that accompanies it. The entrance fee is 2,000 LKR. For Buddhists, this site holds immense historical significance and is a must-visit. Please note that parking options for private vehicles nearby can be limited. To avoid any issues, consider parking in government-paid areas and enjoy a short walk to the temple. Additionally, it's advisable to avoid purchasing flowers at the entrance, as they tend to be quite pricey.

A beautiful Buddhist temple, definitely worth visiting while in Kandy. If you visit afternoon (like after 6:00pm) you will have the chance to observe the ritual evening ceremony (just be prepared for loud, long-lasting music). Entrance fee: 2,000 LKR.

To be candid in Kandy I was really not sure what to make of the The Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic. We were fortunate to watch the mesmerizing ceremony as the monks entered into the inner sanctum which is alleged to hold the relic of the tooth of the Buddha. It is played an important role in local politics because it is believed that whoever holds the relic holds the governance of the country. I realise this is a World Heritage Site but I really would like to see some more concrete evidence that this truly is a tooth belonging to the Buddha. I guess that's where faith comes in!

The Temple of the Tooth Museum, also known as the Sri Dalada Museum, is located in Kandy, Sri Lanka. It is situated within the precincts of the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic (Sri Dalada Maligawa), one of the most significant religious sites for Buddhists in Sri Lanka. The Temple of the Tooth Relic is believed to house a sacred tooth relic of Lord Buddha, and it is an essential pilgrimage site and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The tooth relic is kept in a gold casket, which is stored within multiple nested boxes to protect it. The museum is dedicated to showcasing historical and cultural artifacts related to the Temple of the Tooth Relic, Buddhism in Sri Lanka, and the country's rich heritage. Visitors can explore a vast collection of exhibits, including ancient artifacts, traditional items, religious objects, historical documents, and artworks. The museum provides insight into the history of the temple, the rituals and ceremonies associated with the sacred tooth relic, as well as the impact of Buddhism on Sri Lankan culture and society. It offers visitors a chance to deepen their understanding of Buddhism and its significance in Sri Lanka's past and present. Visiting the Temple of the Tooth Museum allows individuals to appreciate the religious and cultural heritage of Sri Lanka and to witness the profound reverence that the country holds for the sacred tooth relic of Buddha. If you plan to visit the museum, it is advisable to check the opening hours and any specific guidelines for visitors before your trip. Here are some additional details: Architecture: The museum building itself is a well-maintained colonial-era structure with a classic architectural style, showcasing the influence of British design during their colonial rule in Sri Lanka. The elegant architecture adds to the overall charm of the museum and enhances the visitor's experience. Artifact Collections: The exhibits in the museum encompass a wide range of historical artifacts, some of which date back several centuries. These artifacts include ancient scriptures, royal regalia, traditional costumes, intricate jewelry, ancient weapons, religious artwork, and various offerings made to the tooth relic over the years. Sacred Processions: The museum often displays information about the Kandy Esala Perahera, one of Sri Lanka's most grandiose and colorful festivals. The Esala Perahera is an annual procession that parades the sacred tooth relic around the city of Kandy, attracting thousands of locals and tourists alike. Preservation Efforts: The museum plays a crucial role in the preservation and conservation of Sri Lanka's cultural heritage. By showcasing and protecting these invaluable artifacts, the museum helps to safeguard the nation's history and ensure that future generations can also appreciate and learn from it. Temple Complex: The museum is conveniently located within the larger Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic complex. Visitors to the museum can also explore the temple grounds, witness traditional Buddhist rituals, and experience the serene and spiritual atmosphere that surrounds the temple. Cultural Insight: The museum offers valuable insights into the historical, cultural, and religious significance of the Temple of the Tooth and Buddhism in Sri Lanka. It is an ideal place for those interested in delving deeper into the country's religious and cultural practices. Souvenir Shop: The museum may have a souvenir shop where visitors can purchase various mementos, religious items, and handicrafts as souvenirs to remember their visit to the Temple of the Tooth Museum. The palce is mindblowing and it is very attractive place.if you like you can offer flowers and pray in there. museum is in 2nd floor and in it you can see historical things and letters clothes and also you can learn about history of kandy. Before you go to museum you need to get a ticket and you can't get photographs in there.

I think the museum offers a good enough understanding of the importance of the temple. A guide may not be necessary. The locals are also helpful enough to explain. Remember, however, to not disturb those who are praying or involved with the rituals. The lawns are green and good to catch some quiet time. The National Museum and Royal Palace are in the same complex. Also the entire complex is at a walkable distance from the Kandy Lake Club show. So one can enjoy the Kandy show at 5 pm then walk down to the museum, palace and temple around 6ish and then have dinner at the adjoining restaurants.

Free for locals and ticketed for foreigners. By all means visit only matters for local buddhists and foreigners who actually want to dig deep into history. I saw reviews criticising for missing British remainders. That’s exactly the point. I’m very happy to see that prison has finally been moved away (which was established by British to undermine the holy temple and prestigious last palace of the country). I was very happy to see that former president reversed the British declaration of several heroes as traitors. They have also been awarded honorary titles for their service in the freedom battle. Declaration by president in 2016 is available in the museum. City needs a lot of cleaning and getting rid of salesmen on the roads blocking pedestrians’ paths). It has gotten a lot worse since my last visit. Poor waste and crown management seem to be a prominent thing. That’s more for the city and council has to fix that. Palace itself is a clean and walking without shoes didn’t feel like a chore. SL still needs to do a lot to keep the history intact and to restore its glory.

The beautiful temple Sri Dalada Maligawa (Temple of the Buddha's tooth), is the main attraction offered by the small town of Kandy and one of the most important Buddhist sites to see in Sri Lanka. Located on the north shore of the lake, this sanctuary is one of the most revered in the country and culturally very rich. The temple compound is of an unusual style in Buddhist temples, with some classical European touches. The enclosure is walled and surrounded by a beautiful moat, which serves as a prelude to the entrance of the complex. The temple of the Tooth of Buddha, also contains a museum in which we can see sculptures and works of different artists as well as paintings and antique objects of great value. There are also manuscripts and very old books perfectly preserved.

Temple of the sacred tooth relic. Very busy here, it’s obviously a very important temple for the Buddhist religion. Women must have the shoulders and legs covered and men must have there legs covered. It’s possible to rent a sarong for 50-100 rupees just outside the temple. You must remove foot ware but can keep socks on. The floor around the temple can get very hot so socks are a good idea.

I didn't actually make it into the temple due to the fact that Sri Lanka, absolutely rip their tourists off... This temple is free for residents all tourist have to pay depending where your from is a different amount... I found this disgusting, we travelled in India for 6 weeks attending many stunning temples for free, I walked away feeling hurt broken in all honesty. I would never return and wished I never even came to Sri Lanka, it reminded me of segregation and the slave trade.... Get me to thiland!

We went to the Temple of the Tooth museum to see the ancient art and other artifice. It was a great experience. Further, there was a souvenir shop which we spent some time to purchase locally made items. Overall, we believe the costs of the items are not expensive when compared to other similar shops in the country. There were some historical books too including the book of the railway road from Nanu Oya to Udupussallawa railway. Highly recommended to visit there when you go to the Temple of the Tooth.

The sacred tooth ! . The golden-roofed Temple of the Sacred Tooth houses Sri Lanka’s most important Buddhist relic – a tooth of the Buddha. During puja (offerings or prayers), the heavily guarded room housing the tooth is open to devotees and tourists. However, you don’t actually see the tooth. It’s kept in a gold casket shaped like a dagoba (stupa), which contains a series of six dagoba caskets of diminishing size.

(Translated by Google) The brick walls that extend along the moat and Lake Bogambara are known as wave walls. [4] This wall hole is made to light a coconut oil lamp. The main entrance on the moat is called Mahawarkada. At the foot of the steps of Mahawarkada is the Sanda Kada Pahana (moon stone) carved in the Kandian architecture. Mahawahulkada was completely destroyed by the 1998 blast and then rebuilt with other stone carvings in Sandakada Pahana. [6] Elephants are painted in stone on either side of the entrance. On top of the stairs is the Shintora Tiger and two guard stones. The Hewisi drummer's room is in front of the main hall. The second floor of the main shrine is known as "Pale Malaya" (lower floor) and "Udumalaya" (upper floor) or "Wedahitina Marigawa". [7] The door of Wedahitana Marigawa is an ivory sculpture. The actual room where the dental relics are stored is known as the "Handun kunama". The golden canopy above the main hall, built by Prime Minister Lana Shinge Premadasa in 1987, and the golden fence surrounding the main hall are other notable features. Tooth relics are housed in seven golden caskets engraved with precious gems. The casket has the shape of a stupa. The procession casket used by the Kandy Esara Perahera is also exhibited in the same room. It might be very important place for locals but not really a good tourist site unless you are into budishm. Kandy itself is loud, crazy, dirty and not pleasant at all. No old British Remainders. No nice places for tourists. I would recommend to save that one night and just drive through to make a 1.5h stop to visit temple (again 16 us for foreigners, zero for locals) and get the he'll out there. From Sigiriya go to beginning of tea plantation area and stay there for the night. Next day spend whole day driving in this beautifull area. Take final approach to Ella by train in second class. First class can't open windows.

Tooth Relic was brought to Kandy by Hiripitiye Diyawadana Rala and Devanagala Rathnalankara Thera. King Vimaladharmasuriya I built a two-store building to deposit the tooth relic and the building is now gone The Present-day Temple of tooth relic was built by Vera Narendra Singha, The Octagonal Paththirippuwa and moat were added during the region of Sri Wickkrama Ranasinghe. The royal architect Devendra Moolacharya is credited with building the Paththirippuwa. Originally it was used by the king for recreational activities and later it was offered to the tooth relic, it now houses the temple's library. According to ancient chronicle the relic has played an important role in local politics because it is believed that whoever holds the relic holds the governance of the country. Bhikkhus of the two particular chapters, the Malwathu chapters and Asgiri chapters conduct daily worship in the inner chamber of the temple. Rituals are performed three times daily: at dawn, at noon, and in the evenings. In 1998 Militant Organization of Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) Attack and damaged the front side of the Temple of tooth Relic deposited building, The most respectable, beautiful and attracted place on the earth. In my childhood I usually visit Every Weekend and worship lord Buddha. I am one of the person who has been first eye witness damaged done by LTTE During 1998.This museum created by aftermath of bomb blast.this museum containing lots of historical information about Temple of tooth relic and cultural influences of the region.
