Recommend to ask for the private tour of the tea plantation before the tour. - Very informative tour and enjoyed the factory tour, with a great ending of the tea tasting. Reminded me of wine tasting tours. To top it all off would suggest to great your tea of pretense and soak in the breathtaking view from their balcony once you’ve completed. ☕️ 🫖

Nice experience to see the process through which the tea plant goes to end up in your cup. Even though we came late, they still did a tour to us which was very nice. They have a shop where you can buy some nice tea and the view from the top is so pretty

We came on the day when the factory was closed but we still had a very nice experience. Our guide Siva has been really knowledgeable and has explained the process of making tea in a passionate and interesting way. In the end we could enjoy the tasting and purchase the tea. The factory has got a nice view terrace overlooking the tea plantations. We highly recommend the tour.

The view from the factory is God's masterpiece. I could stay here all day drinking tea and watching the mountains, Stunning views of the mountains and valleys. Learn about the tea making process and enjoy a cup of freshly brewed tea

Came in the wrong period and also during the weekend so there was no real time tea processing. However I was so positively surprised by explanation, demonstration of machinery and all the knowledge we got from guide! Really interesting.

Very nice experience. It is very close to Ella but not road is a little bumpy. Unfortunately we were just able to get a tour and the guide explained how everything works. We were not able to see them in action. Beautiful view from the terace

Super interesting tour with very detailed explanation of how tea is produced starting from the leaves to the dried black tea that we know. First a very knowledgeable man explained us the whole process that we afterwards visited step-by-step in the factory with most machines still running. At the end we were then able to taste the different types of black teas that come out of the process. The only thing to improve is that the guide could be more structured in his presentation of the process and leave out the chemical details as they, at least for us, were difficult to understand as it goes beyond common knowledge.

This factory was recommended to me and my boyfriend by multiple locals as the best factory for a tea factory tour that there is. I really enjoyed the visit. The tour was done by a guy working at the factory that is clearly an expert in tea. He explained to us the different types of tea at Sri Lanka, how is the tea processed in general, how does it work on market with tea and we had also tour through the factory. At the end of the tour, there was a small tea tasting. The is helps a person to understand different types and choose which tea do they want to buy, if they consider that. The whole tour lasts about 1 hour. Mind in advance that the processes for tea processing don't run every day and that you might be as unlucky as we were - we didn't see tea itself to be processed. But then, we were also told that it's much quieter like that and that people can at least hear each other while walking with the tour guide through the factory. Prices at tea shop are high - typical touristic ones. But this is expected. On the good side, we wanted to buy something local as presents for our friends. A lady from staff working at the place warned us that some products that we are going to buy are from another tea factory. So we didn't take those products and chose something different instead.

Fantastic tour… Rajah was knowledgeable, charming and charismatic and we really felt we learned a lot about the tea manufacturing process in a fun way. Tea tasting was good at the end also!

Nice plantation tour and friendly staff. But the prices at the shop are way too high. At least 5 dollars for a small box of tea… We were very surprised of how expensive it is. The same tea in a local market is almost half of the price. Worth the tour but Definitely not buying anything there

Wow! I just visited this awesome tea factory. If you love tea and are curious about how it is made, you need to visit this place. There are tours of the facility and tea tastings so you can fully experience everything about tea. My excellent guide, Sanka took me there. Check him out when you get to Ella. (+94702886684)

By the time we reached, labour shift was over and we weren't told when to come next to see workers working and how tea is extracted out of leaves. So don't know what's the reality. But we were given taste of different tea.

Our visit to the Uva Halpewatte Tea Factory was an absolute delight. Our guide, Rajha, made the experience truly exceptional. With his knowledge and genuine passion for tea, he effortlessly explained every step of the tea-making process, catering to our group of four, who spoke English, Italian, and French. Rajha went above and beyond to ensure that we understood the technicalities and felt engaged and entertained throughout the tour. From plucking tea leaves to meticulous fermentation and drying methods, Rajha's explanations were informative and captivating, skilfully balancing facts with entertaining anecdotes. You really shouldn't miss out on this tour, which by the way, is only $5. Enjoy!

Since the tea factory is located high up, you should be good on foot. Otherwise, it can be reached relatively easily with a rented scooter. Also, you have to know that the factory has some steep and small stairs to offer. Not always easy to walk. The tour of the factory cost us $5 per person. A guided tour starts every 30 minutes. Our guide "Siva" was excellent. Rarely get such an exciting explanation in a well understandable English. After this tour, it became clear how elaborate the production is. The tour lasted approximately 45 minutes. At the end there was a tea tasting to taste the learned ;) The view with a cup of tea is beautiful. From our point of view, a visit is definitely worth it. Again, a very big praise to Siva!

As a tourist guide and chauffeur, I’ve visit almost all the tea factories in Sri Lanka and I’ve heard plenty of explanations about the tea production. But the ever best explanation I’ve got in here with siva, who was my clients factory guide. His knowledge about tea is perfect and his English was very good and clear. Explained everything extremely well and answered all our questions scientifically. His knowledge about the mechanism of tea machines is perfect. Whoever comes here better get factory guiding with siva. The entrance ticket cost 1000 per person to visit the factory

We knew its was going to be a good tour, however, it went beyond expectations. Mr Siva (our guide) did a great job, showing us the factory and explaining each detail of the tea production process. His passion and knowledge couldn't be left unseen, this man loves what he is doing and so we felt it. He shared only little part of entire process but it was enough to understand how complex tea production is. Loved the tour and small chats in the cafe after it finished. Highly recommended!

Not enough people know about this place. Please go and learn about tea in Sri Lanka, so much to learn in this tour (1100 LKR each cash or card). Great tour through the factory to understand the process and machines ending in a tea tasting with an incredible view of the stupa on top of a mountain, Ella Rock and Little Adams Peak. Only ten min drive from town up a very steep narrow road. Served by Chandraraja who has 46 years experience in the tea industry and really incredible English. You can buy packets of freshly produced tea leaves at the shop at the end. Highly recommend this experience. Go in the morning around 8am for the best processing time, factory runs 24h when it's not rainy season.

Was an awesome experience but the place kind of felt closed or half empty until we started out actual tour. Part of this was because we arrived at a time between two large shifts of the workers, but even still there is no real welcoming experience for visitors. This aside, we got to see all the amazing machinery and workers at work, learn about the process from a very passionate guide, and have some tasters after. The shop seemed reasonably priced and there are some awesome views from the balcony and top shop level. Definitely worth doing!

We had truly complete explanations of tea processing: our guid was very invest in the factory tour, with images and comparisons which made the experience very understandable. Not too long, not too fast, it was just perfect! We tasted and compared the tea at the end of the visit (including in the 5$ entry fees) We bought some tea boxes at the end, but it was very pleasant to feel free buy/not buy. Thank you very much :)

30 minutes tour. We can visit the factory. Good explanations and we can try 4 different types of black tea. Best to visit Tuesday to Friday when there are people working in the factory. I recommend this place. We liked the tour and the price is fair if you want to buy tea. Nice view from the tea cafe.
