Well
off
the
beaten
path
(for
now)
Ellewala
ella
is
a
must
visit
if
you
are
in
the
Ella/Wellawaya
area.
It's
not
the
most
well
known
of
all
the
many
tourist
attractions
in
the
area
and
perhaps
that
is
what
makes
it
most
appealing.
We
went
to
this
waterfall
while
we
were
staying
at
Jetwing
Kaduruketha,
(stay
tuned
for
a
review
of
this
wonderful
hotel)
and
I
would
highly
recommend
this
if
you
are
staying
there.
We
took
the
bikes
provided
free
of
charge
by
the
hotel
and
cycles
through
ideal
Sri
Lankan
countryside,
past
paddy
fields,
sleepy
villages
and
streams.
the
roads
are
not
too
busy
specially
if
you
go
in
the
morning.
On
the
way
you
meet
two
steep
hills
near
Alikota
Ara
reservoir
which
may
require
you
to
get
down
and
walk,
but
it
is
only
a
short
distance.
The
reservoir
itself
is
a
sight
to
see
with
skeletal
trees
jutting
out
of
the
wide
expanse
of
water.
The
last
part
of
the
trip
is
a
small
hike
which
has
to
be
undertaken
by
foot.
As
I
said
it
was
not
the
most
popular
spot
we
were
the
only
group
on
this
day.
The
silence
and
peace
of
the
area
made
it
more
special.
It's
a
trek
through
a
dirt
road
and
the
last
bit
through
overhanging
jungle,
as
is
common
in
most
hikes
in
Sri
Lanka
you
will
find
guide
dogs
to
help
you
along
the
way.
You
would
be
surprised
ours
barked
and
growled
when
we
started
down
a
wrong
way
and
showed
us
the
right
path.
With
little
human
life
and
few
signs
you
would
wonder
if
the
waterfall
would
be
seen,
when
finally
it
appears
through
a
curtain
of
leaves.
A
mass
of
gushing
water
the
sight
is
well
worth
the
effort.
Do
adhere
to
the
warning
signs
as
it
is
not
the
place
for
a
bath.
