This is an ancient entrance to the Maya Rata from Ruhunu Rata. Only a part of the entrance and pathway is remaining today. As soon as you enter the road to go to see Mahaweli Maha Seya you can see this onto your right. There is a sign board also. There is a parking space for a small vehicle. But you can park on the main road and walk here. This is also in walking distance from Kothmale Dam View point.

This is the place where prince dutugemunu entered to kothmale after he ran away from palace. People in the area said that this is not the exact place. The monument was moved to this place due to kothmale dam construction.

An area that was separate as a country in the past. There are 4 entrances to Kothmale. It is Kadadora, Vatadora, Nigamgamdora and Galdora. Dehadu Kadulla, also known as Kadadora, is one of the entrances.[1] This entrance is made using stone blocks and sakka stones. Due to the fact that this is an entrance between Ruhuna and Maya country, taxes have also been levied between the two countries. Ancient Kotmale belonged to Ruhunu country. Copied….

According to the history there were four gates to enter from Ruhunu province to Maya province. And this is the only gate still available. It is said that Prince Dutugamunu had hidden his sword here when he first arrived from Ruhuna. This was all made of stones putting them together, their is a stair case which is also made of stones in to the hill. This stair case is said to be the path to the nearby village, Kotagepitiya, which the Prince Dutugamunu spent his young years. Easy access. Very next to the main road.

Kothmale is a picturesque land surrounded by hills deeply embedded in Sri Lankan history. Kothmale is first recorded in history when the King Panduwasdeva (504-474 BC) carried out a devil dance by the Demon (yak) tribes living in Malaya Rata which is now Kothmale. But Kothmale is most prominent in the life of King Dutugemunu (161-131 BC) where he spent 24 years of his life as a young boy in exile in the Kotagepitiya village in the house of Urupelesse Gammahage as a herdsman. In the ancient times, there has been 4 main entrances to Kothmale called Kadadora, Watadora, Niyangandora and Galdora. Today only Kadadora entrance remains to be seen. Kadadora is also known as the entrance which prince Gemunu used to enter Kothmale. History states that the prince hid his royal sward inside a tree near the Kadadora which is also known as Dehadu Kadulla today. This has been restored and the entrance is flanked by 2 walls of layers stones. The access is flight of steps paved with stone. - Amazing Lanka

Historical landmark in Sri Lanka. This was one of the main gates out of the four between ancient "Ruhuna" and "Maya" provinces. A good place for people who love the proud history of Sri Lanka

No tourists and worth a visit only to see the sheer size of the reservoir. They charge LKR 30 per person (rate as of Nov 2023) which I recommend only if you have to go to the washroom. Else take a pic from the main road and skip the view point.

This is the only remaining entrance from the four entrance to the hill country in ancient times. This was the place where prince Gamunu hide his sword while traveling to kotmale. Today only the entrance build with stones and a foot path build from stones are remain from that era.
