After a tiring hike of about 3 to 4 kilometres, you get the reward. This magical waterfall appears in front of you through the winding road, soothing the exhaustion from your long walk. You could really see that this place is called Mandaram Nuwara for a reason as this area is surrounded by heavy mist and covered by the gigantic shadows of towering mountains.

One of the best hike through lush greenery and misty environment in Mandaramnuwara. Car park is available in the village where concrete road ends and you have to take a ticket at the entrance where forest department maintain the place very well. It is around 700m hike from ticket counter and clear foot path is there with steps. This is a easy hike and you can reach the bottom of the waterfall in 30 minutes. Scenery around the hiking is magnificent bordering Piduruthalagala Conservation Forest. Take only memories, leave only footprints !

A very small trek towards the waterfall. The road that leads to this place too got an amazing view around. Water is so clean it's naturally purified. Villages do not like travellers polluting the water since the villagers use it for their day to day needs. The place is well maintained by the forest dept.

After about 3km flattery hike, you can reach to this beautiful wallterfall. Before you start the journey, after walking about 1km you will find a ticket counter, it will be 100 rupees for adults. This is gazette as a national reserve and under control of national forest reserve. You will not allow to bring any plastic, polythene or any restricted items like drones or heavy camera items. If you need, you have to get a permission from the colombo office. Specially need to highlight, you will not allow to have a bath or go into waterfall, because this water is the main resource for the villagers. So please don't do any harm to that sensitive environment. Enjoy 💛

Stunning waterfall with amazing view. Has to walk for around 2km to reach there but it’s definitely worth the walk. Must place to visit if you travel to mandaramnuwara.

The way to Kolapathana water fall is to turn left at the Mandaramnuwara police station onto the concrete road. Take another right and you can go to a place where you can park the vehicles. Short walk from there would take you to the Forestry Department office. Need to take tickets as you are entering the Piduruthalagala reserve. A ticket is Rs 60 for an adult.Plastics or polythene is not allowed from this point onwards. Reusable water bottles are allowed but not the single use type.Walking another 700m along the trail would bring you to the bottom of the falls. Since it’s a drinking water source you are not allowed to bathe or go in to the water at the falls. However there are places to have a dip near the forestry office. If you ask locals they would tell you where to have a dip. Beware of leeches. There are plenty, especially if you wander off the trail. Enjoy this beautiful waterfall responsibly!!!

Kolapathana Ella Waterfall is a multi-step cascade that is fed by a stream originating from Pidurutalagala forest reserve. The exact height of the fall is unknown, but a rough elevation analysis in Google Earth shows that it cannot be less than 50m.

Mandaramnuwara is a small ancient village in the Nuwara Eliya district lying at altitude of 1250 meters above sea level at the foot of the Pidurutalagala in the Hanguranketha area. Kolapathana Ella is one of the large waterfalls lying at Mandaramnuwara. This is not a single waterfall but a cluster of waterfalls, one below another. Only the bottom waterfall is called Kolapathana Ella. However the full cluster can be seen as a single view from far. This small town can be reached from Padiyapelella by taking the Mandaram Nuwara road and traveling about 12 kms of narrow and bending road with a unspoiled beautiful scenery all the way. -0- To reach the waterfall, take Mandaramnuwara Road from Padiyapelella. There is public transport available on this route. Once you reach Mandaramnuwara, travel about 500 meters towards the Udawela Maha Vidyalaya (school) until you reach the old tea factory. Form here, continue on the concrete laid road for further 500 meters and turn right from the junction. This road ends after about 200m. Currently there is a ticket counter established by the Forest Department and directions to the fall is marked to enter the area to get the best view of the waterfall. Lorries collecting vegetables from farmers travel up to this point. From here you need to hike a further 2km along the un mapped foot paths to reach this waterfall which lies about 1500 meters above sea level. Mandaramnuwara lies 1250 meters above sea level. This is not listed in the LCWF database.

It is one of the most beautiful places in Sri Lanka. You have to walk a short distance through the beautiful environment to see this. You will not have the opportunity to bathe here. The reason is that this is how the villagers drink and meet all their needs.

⭐ A waterfall with hidden beauty.... Great prize from the 'mother of nature ' . It only took 15- 25 minutes of easy hike to reach the view point from the entrance. (1- 2 km ig) 🥾⛰️. You can't bath in here but there are some places outside this place that are suitable for a fresh bath 🚿. 🎟️ You want to buy a ticket for a very affordable price from the ticket counter which is situated near the entrance. It's maintaining by forest department of Sri Lanka, so no scams or whatever 😁. 🌧️ It's more beautiful in the rainy season and we can't get that scenery look in hard sunny season 😎. 🚗 There's a car parking area also , and you can park your car safely and Enjoy your hike enjoy 😌. Bringing plastics and polythenes is not recommended. We must protect its environment !

Kolapathana Ella is arguably the most popular waterfall situated in Mandaram Nuwara. It is a tall waterfall, but only the lower part is visible to the base. You have to park your vehicle and walk for about 45 minutes on a trail to reach the base of this waterfall. During the dry season, only a very small amount of water falls down. Nowadays, there is an entrance ticket which should be purchased to visit the waterfall.

Kolapathana Waterfall is a beautiful and refreshing waterfall located in the Nuwara Eliya District of Sri Lanka. It is a popular tourist destination, and for good reason. The waterfall is surrounded by lush greenery and offers stunning views of the surrounding countryside. The waterfall is about 20 meters high and has a natural pool at the bottom where visitors can swim and cool off. There are also several walking trails that lead to the waterfall, offering different perspectives of its beauty. I highly recommend visiting Kolapathana Waterfall if you are ever in Sri Lanka. It is a truly breathtaking place.

Ice like water. Cannot bath. The ticket costs Rs. 100 from the entrance. These days, as in the first week of April the path to the waterfall is very sunny.
