This is the most attractive, memorable and iconic place in Temple of the Tooth Kandy.. octagon shape gives the most iconic look... It's like a library.. historical Buddhist books and valuable documents are well preserved here... Most of the things of this place has been made from wood.. still anyone can see those things.. Also this place used the king to address the public.. there's a huge beautiful green ground infront of this..

it was built in 1802 A.D on the instructions of kings Sri Wickrama Rajasinhe. This building is a master piece of Kandyan Architecture was octagonal in shape and the roof was an attractive creation with a steep gradient.During the bomb blast by the LTTE terrorist on 25th of January 1998 aimed to destroy the Buddhist Heritage the paththirippuwa too faced damage. It was pleasure to see the reconstruction of the building.Reconstruction work had in no way obstructed strength of the ancient building and it had been a great pleasure too.

#kandy #SriLanka The Octagon aka Paththirippuwa is one of most important buildings in Dalada Maligawa. It was built in 1802 AD by King Sri Wickrama Rajashinghe, the last king of the Nayakkar Lineage. It's name derived from the tamil language. It means 'To see while seat'. In 1998, LTTE attacked the Sri Dalada Maligawa and the Octagon also being damaged. It has been restored after that scene and it took one year to restore the building.

It was a well known fact that the paththirippuwa , which had been considered as the symbol of identity of the of the Kandyan Architecture was built in 1802 A.D on the instructions of kings Sri Wickrama Rajasinhe., who was the last king of Nayakkar Lineage (1798-1815 A.D). The name derived from the Tamil Language, meant as the place of this great construction was a master craftsman named Devendra Moolacharya. Out of his construction Magul Maduwa or the pavilion held a prominent place. According to tradition he had born in Matale, was staying for some time in Kotmale and finally lived in Handessa, till his tragic death which had taken place as a suicide for feeling ashamed of losing one of his fingers on the orders of king, who listened to slander against this great craftsman. This building a master piece of Kandyan Architecture was octagonal in shape and the roof was an attractive creation with a steep gradient. During the bomb blast by the LTTE terrorist on 25th of January 1998 A.D, aimed to destroy the Buddhist Heritage the paththirippuwa too faced damage. It was pleasure to see the reconstruction of the building. The patronage of the Minister in charge of the Harbor should be appreciated. Concrete mortar and plaster were pumped to the cracked and vibrated walls through novel technological methods to strengthen the building. Reconstruction work had in no way obstructed strength of the ancient building and it had been a great pleasure too. - sridaladamaligawa.lk

This iconic octagonal structure of Temple of Tooth was built by royal architect Devendra Moolacharya in 1802 during the reign of King Sri Vickrama Rajasinghe, the last King of Sri Lanka. Paththirippuwa is probably the most recognizable structure in Sri Lanka.

The Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic is a world-renowned place of worship, where the left  tooth of Gautama Buddha is enshrined. The temple which is venerated by thousands of local & foreign devotees and tourists daily was named as a world heritage by UNESCO in 1988. The temple which carries a lot of value to Buddhists all over the world also has immense cultural value. The architecture is of unique Kandyan architectural style with a combination of the unique style used to build “Dalada Mandira” the shrines which housed the Sacred Tooth Relic previously in other kingdoms. The temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic is built in the city of Kandy near the ancient Royal Palace which is situated to the North of the temple and the forest reserve called “Udawaththa Kelaya” to the East. The famous Kandy Lake also known as “Kiri Muhuda” to the South and “Natha & Paththini Devala” on the West. The temple is adorned with intricate carvings using gold, silver, bronze and ivory.

Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic; commonly known as the ශ්‍රී දළදා මාළිගාව (Glorious Tooth Temple), is a Buddhist temple in Kandy, Sri Lanka. It is located in the royal palace complex of the former Kingdom of Kandy, which houses the relic of the tooth of the Buddha. Since ancient times, the relic has played an important role in local politics because it is believed that whoever holds the relic holds the governance of the country. The relic was historically held by Sinhalese kings. The temple of the tooth is a World Heritage Site mainly due to the temple and the relic. [Wikipedia]

The Dalada Maligawa, also known as, the Temple of the Tooth, is one of the landmark sites in the city of Kandy. It is located in the heart of Kandy town surrounded by the lake and the commercial district. The Maligawa was once the royal palace inhabited by the king and his consorts, but after the demise of the Kandyan Kingdom the palace was transformed into a Buddhist temple that holds Buddha's tooth.

The last king of Sri lanka, Sri Wickrama Rajasinghe (1797 – 1814) built the Pattirippuwa (the Octagon). Originally, the Pattirippuwa (octagon) was part of the royal palace. It was used by the king to address his follow countrymen. Today the Pattirippuwa has become a part of the temple and houses ancient textures written in ola leaves.

Probably the most notable structure in the palace complex,Designed by an architect called Devendra muulacharii during the reign of the last kandyan king, Srii wickrama Rajasinghe. The balcony of the building was used by the king to make appearances for the public since the building is overlooked by a large square.
