BE CAREFUL THEY HAVE BEDBUGS !! Worst experience in Sri Lanka ! And they made us pay, while they apparently knew very well they had bedbugs beforehand, but didn’t seem to mind...they even told us we were being dishonest because we said this after checkout time was over. They were impolite and rude at the end...by the way, the smell of fetid waters coming from the sewers was circulating in the hostel, BEWARE SENSITIVE NOSES

Very disappointing hostel. Sheets are not cleaned after use, everything is dirty like the streets by itself. We run away after one night. If you are fun if mould on the walls, then check in.

Very decent cheap option right in the center of town and close to the train/bus station. The main door is always locked and it's a bit annoying to wait for someone to open each time you go out/in. The building and rooms are very narrow with steep stairs that reach the roof.

BED BUGS! Sadly i wasn't able to read reviews before i came to this hostel. the owner was very friendly but did not mention anything about the problems with bedbugs that they definitely knew about. We were 6 persons in two different dorm rooms who all found bed bugs in our beds. Firstly the staff really didn't want to acknowledge the issue, then offered to change sheets and matrasses (which they had two extra of so not really helpful and they looked very old so might as well have been infested also) After a bit of arguing they agreed to repay our money. The owner said that they knew about the problems and had been trying to spray something on the matrasses, also wanted to point out that it was because of travelers they got the bugs in the first place. That they contribute spreading it to other places/hostels he didn't wanna acknowledge. I cannot recommend this place to anyone until they shut down and clean house.

Typical backpacker hostel, good beds, clean room and friendly staff. Best location close to railway station, bus stand and tooth temple. You can write travel notes on walls . Kitchen is there, no windows in rooms so giving 4 start. Best hostel in Kandy.

Reasonably priced. The location is very good. Mr. Stephen, the caretaker ensures a good time.

The Elephant Shed Hostel is a really nice place for backpackers. We stayed two nights there and loved to enjoy the beautiful view on the rooftop of the hostel. The owner of the hostel is also a traveller and a really good dancer ;). It was a pleasure for use to met him.

Very steep stairs. Not suitable if carrying any leg injuries. Good location.

This hostel looks very beautiful and artistic, as its walls are painted with different sketches and paintings. In addition, they are multi colour walls, which look different and nice. It is a multi story building close to Kandy bus stand and train station of Kandy. However, as far as facilities are concerned, one has to adjust as there is lack of sanitation and no water to drink. When I went there, the caretaker was not there and I had to wait for a long time. After paying the fee, a bunk bed was assigned to me, which was not clean. Also, the mobile charging point was not working. Moreover, wifi was not operational, which is extremely essential for solo travellers. Once a bunk bed is allotted, the guest has to stay on his own as there is no one to assist. Furtheremore, flow of water was very slow during taking shower and it took around half an hour to shower complerely. Bathrooms were not clean and size was very small.

Friendly and welcoming staff in a clean and comfortable hostel. The wifi was awesome, showers were good and the beds had good privacy for a 8 bed dorm and were very comfortable. UK charge point on the wall with a night lamp in each bed too. Coffee and tea available and a good rooftop view over kandy. 👌

It's very basic but has everything you'd expect from a hostel. The stairs are VERY steep,tight and numerous, so if you're less able, this place provably isn't for you. Wall mounted fans were good but no ac. We met a lot of people at this hostel. Probably because you bump into a lot of people on the stairs on the way up to the communal area on the top floor

Stayed here for 2 nights. Great location; very nicely located in the Kandy city center, close to all the main attractions. Very welcoming and friendly staff, especially Lalith (he's the man and super knowledgeable!). Very fast wifi. Clean dorms with 3 bathrooms and 3 showers. There's a kitchen and free tea. 10/10 would stay here again!
