The house where Pres James Polk was born in is no longer here, replaced by a Stine monument marking the spot. There are a few log homes and a garden with historic signs on this property. If you have a bike, recommend bring it and explore the bike Greenway trail. It is paved, looks well maintained and used by several cyclists that I have encountered. This property is not big. Dogfriendly 🥳. I didn't go in the visitor's center, but I'm sure most of the info on history of Pres Polk is in there.

Visited this place for trail walk. Sugar creek trail extended till this place. This new trail connects from this historical place to i485 which further goes till Tyvola road. This is really nice trail. And this place is good for walking and biking. The historic visitor center is also good for the kids to visit.

What an amazing historical site in this area. Came here today to get some old photos of an 1800’s kitchen for a project. The employees were very helpful. I went on the tour which only cost $2.00 and worth way more. It wasn’t under an hour but I learned so much about life back in Polk’s time. Highly recommend.

My family and I had a lovely tour with Michelle today. We loved that Michelle was able to explain the history in a way that kept us adults entertained, as well as all the young children on the tour. Until today, I didn't know anything about President Polk and his life. The museum is wonderful and the grounds around the museum are great for walking, biking and picnicking. I look forward to coming back with friends.

We were in town and I googled something to do. I took the kids to see some history and for what it was worth, we all enjoyed it. We were able to catch the guided tour and I loved seeing my son engage with the tour guide and ask questions. The people working the facility were very pleasant from the start to the end of our visit.

I arrived late on a sunny June day, parked in a small parking lot, and went inside the building. Staff was very kind and let me know that the museum was to the right and there was a video about Polk started in the next few minutes. I sat and watched the 13-minute video before perusing small but informative museum with items on display from the area as well as the state archives. When I was finished inside the museum, I went outdoors to walk the site. The nature trail was closed, but the Sugar Creek greenway cuts through the property and was available for a stroll. I sat on the picnic tables under the shade and surveyed the 22 acre property. This is all that was left of the 150 acres originally left to James K Polk as a wedding present by his father.

New walking/ bike riding trails. Museum on-site. Wood fences finished and unfinished. Shaded areas. Benches along the trails. Creeks and small waterfall ripples long the edges. Haven't visited the entire site yet but I can tell it's a joy.

There is a museum and a guided tour of 2 buildings, the kitchen and main house. The guided tour is $2 adult and takes 25 min. I think our tour guide was Jeff. He was excellent and made the tour fun!

First visit here in probably 25 years. I had forgotten what a great place it is, not just for learning more about history, but also for experiencing the beauty of nature in the middle of a bustling, growing city. We took the Death and Dying tour, which was all about how people in Polk's time met their ends and how death was dealt with. I learned some new things, for example, many people would poison themselves and pass out from their lead lined flasks, only to wake up hours later buried alive. Our tour guide, Kyle, was very knowledgeable and gave us an informative, entertaining glimpse into the unpleasant details of death and dying in Polk's time. I hope to visit more often in the future! Thanks for a great experience! ♥️

A small but comprehensive museum that takes about 30 minutes if watching the video. Missed the tour of the re-created farm buildings and gardens, but one house was open to all and there was a cooking demonstration happening inside. Museum docents were incredibly helpful and knowledgeable. We only stopped by because the museum was on the bike path we were riding on, but so happy we stumbled upon this hidden gem!

Descriptions in the museum are outdated and maintain a racist lens. The museum does not discuss enslaved people with the same respect as people that were doing the enslaving. The museum does not discuss the impact that the Mexican American war had on the families, pueblos and culture in the southwest as a result of Mr. Polk decisions in office to provide a complete picture of the story.

Wonderful little museum, beautiful collaboration of artifacts and literal facts from the era of President Polk's life. I would recommend, if you like history , then that is a very very nice place to go. Also it is free to explore. Good family adventure ❤️

This little gem is a short drive from Ballantyne. The indoor exhibits, video, and grounds are free to visit. Additionally, limited tours are available inside the replica cabins for $2 per person. The small musuem does a wonderful job providing historical context around the time of Polk's birth and youth, as well as events during his presidency.

It is a small site, but worth visiting. The folks in the visitor center were friendly and very knowledgeable. I learned a little bit about an under appreciated president and bought a few things from the gift shop.

A wonderful insight into the early life of one of the early leaders of a young America. The staff was welcoming very informative. Really wonderful venue.

The visitor center has a very good display that gives you quite a bit of background on both Polk and his presidency. Wonderful learning opportunity. And the staff here was fantastic. Very knowledgeable as I asked some questions that weren't covered by the displays. The park itself is nice with samples of cotton and tobacco growing in the garden. The buildings are reconstructions and not the actual buildings. But it was well worth the visit

This is a very nice historic site that I really enjoyed. The man and young female working in the gift area were overly helpful and had so much information. I actually purchased several post cards (hard to find these days), a "Made in the USA" very nice log cabin toy set, and a cookbook. The two females, in historic custom, were keeping several of us very interested in their kitchen. I definitely recommend this stop in your travels.

I happened upon this site while on a long walk. Decided to go in and was greeted by a really friendly staff member who directed me towards the exhibits. Really fascinating displays of history detailing our 11th President's upbringing in our area as well as the tumultuos times in and around his presidency. Definitely check it out if you get the chance.
