Excellent place. No tickets required here. Easily accessible from railway station, Air port and bus stand. Nearby places include clock tower which is still working with bird in it's top for wind direction purpose. Bara imambara. Place for big gathering during historic days. Then there is bhul bhulaiyya to disguise enemy during g war time, a must visit place on lucknow stay . There is residency few kilometers, from here, near kaisarbagh. beautiful and soothing place. I'd recommend for visit during winter as in summer the temperature is around (35-40)°C so one will get exhausted, sun tanned and then it becomes boring. Also make sure you hire a guide for better understanding of the inside architecture and history. Even without guide also it's enjoyable. Have a nice trio to sham e awadh.

An illustrative Part of Rich History Of Lucknow. If you are ever in lucknow then don’t miss a picture with this place. This place is best to be visited during the later half of the day when sun is about to set and after few hours this place light ups and those pictures are worth hundreds of likes on any social media platform. I would perfectly recommend visiting place around 5:30pm - 6:00 pm so that you get to experience golden hour pictures are well as slow motions.

Well renovated and pretty in the evenings with the lights-arrangements, plus surrounded by a green and spacious park The best time to visit Satkhanda is evening and it looks just amazing a little after sun down when the illuminating lights are turned on. It is also known as watch tower. But there is very bad smell as there are many non-veg points

Nawab Nasseer-ud-Daulah of Awadh originally thought of building a nine storey structure – Naukhanda – that would be the highest tower, an eighth wonder of the world and excel the height and majesty of the Tower of Babylon or the Leaning Tower of Pisa.

It's a historical heritage. The construction work of Satkhanda was initiated by King Mohammed Ali Shah during his reign in the years 1837-1842. He built it as a watch-tower with an intention of having the bird’s eye view of the old city area of Lucknow along with it’s royal buildings.

King Mohammed Ali Shah who started the construction of the building planned it to be a watchtower with seven stories but could complete only four due to his untimely demise. The old city area of Lucknow is replete with historical monuments so much so that it seems to be taken straight out of a history book. Most of the monuments built by the Nawabs of Awadh portray a rich blend of Mughal, British, and Persian architecture at its best. One such magnificent structure, which unfortunately could not reach completion, is the #Satkhanda, situated in the Hussainabad area of the city. The tower was built by Nawab Mohammad Ali Shah in 1842. Originally, the plan was to build 30 meters high, seven-storey tower but the construction work was abandoned after the untimely death of Nawab Mohammad Ali Shah. By that time, only four storeys could be completed. The tower is approximately 21 meters high and was built to view the moon by the Ulema as Muslims celebrate Eid, Bakreed festivals according to the sighting of the moon. Moreover, Nawab Mohammad Ali Shah wanted to have an extensive bird’s eye view of the wonderful city of Lucknow along with the majestic monuments and buildings from Satkhanda. According to some local historians, the Nawab used to love his daughter immensely and wanted to build the monument for her. Unfortunately, the Nawab’s daughter is said to have died at a tender age. Soon after the untimely death of his daughter, Nawab Mohammad Ali Shah also died as he was unable to bear the loss of his daughter. The construction of the Satkhanda tower was abruptly stopped after the death of Nawab Mohammad Ali Shah and the descendants of the Nawab did not undertake the completion of the construction because they thought it would be a bad omen. Some locals believe that Nawab Mohammad Ali Shah hurt his ankle badly while climbing the stairs of the tower and died soon after this incident. Perhaps, this was the reason behind the reluctance of the Nawab’s descendants to avoid resuming the construction of Satkhanda, considering it a bad omen. #Lucknow #Hometown

The Lucknow Satkhanda is a tall and old tower in Lucknow, India. It has seven floors and looks a bit like a watchtower. It's like a time machine that takes us back to the past and shows how things were in old times. People think it's special because it's a part of the city's history and reminds us of the past.

The Satkhanda watchtower, or "the tower of seven storeys", is located outside the Chhota Imambara. Satkhanda was built between 1837 and 1842 during the rule of Mohammad Ali Shah and the construction was interrupted when he passed away – thus, in spite of its name, the tower only has four storeys. Ali Shah wanted to make it similar to Qutub Minar of Delhi and the leaning tower of Pisa in Italy. Its main purpose is lunar observation.

I would say good building. I visited many times and each time I was looking only structure and architecture that how it had been made by the people who don’t know about technology and art. They were not aware about latest technology and they didn’t have too much updated instruments at that time still they made it. All the buildings and fort are still there. Wonderful. You should go there and explore the things. Thanks a lot.

The Satkhanda, originally meant to be seven-storey-high was built in 1837 by Mohammad Ali Shah, the third King of Awadh, for moon-sighting by clerics. However, with his death, the monument was left incomplete at just four storeys. Considering it a bad omen, no other ruler bothered to complete it. One of the distinctive feature of this structure is that each of it’s successive storey has been constructed in the decreasing order of height and breadth of it’s base storey. The total height of Satkhanda is 35 feet approximately. #Satkhanda

This beautiful monument standing besides Clock Tower pond has uncanny resemblance to Leaning Tower of Pisa. The monument is octagonal in shape and was suppose to have 7 floors (Sath - Seven, Khanda - Sections) but the work was abandoned after construction of 4 floors. There are also stories that it was suppose to be used for having a sight of Eid ka Chand and seems true as well. Some buildings looks beautiful even they were never completed, Satkhanda definitely falls in that category.

"Nawab Nasseer-ud-Daulah of Awadh originally thought of building a nine storey structure – Naukhanda – that would be the highest tower, an eighth wonder of the world and excel the height and majesty of the Tower of Babylon or the Leaning Tower of Pisa." The project, however, could only be taken up by his successor, Nawab Muhamad Ali Shah, who brought it down to a realistic height of seven storeys – Satkhanda, but could not go beyond four storeys only because he died in 1840. Another idea behind the project was to build a tall watch tower so the Nawab could take a view of the entire city. The tower was, however, reduced to ruins after his death. But as they say, the ruins often tell the story of how grand and majestic the building might have been. Satkhanda, built in a blend of French and Italian architectural styles, is located close to Hussainnabad Imambara. It is still admired for its magnificent medieval design. Another reason to build it was to pay a tribute to Sir George Couper, the then governor of UP.

Satkhanda The word ‘Satkhanda’ means Seven-Storeyed. Initially, this building was intended to comprise seven storeys but it’s construction work was later abandoned and thus, only 4 level of it could be completed. Incomplete but nevertheless splendour of heritage architecture, Satkhnada, a red-brick watch-tower, constructed by King Mohammed Ali Shah, is situated near the Chota Imambara. Satkhanda, a four-storey tower, has got it’s architectural design influenced from ‘The Leaning Tower of Pisa’, one of the seven wonders of world. The tower is constructed in a blend of Greek and Islamic architecture. It’s framework and pediments reflect Greek structural design whereas arches of the gates and windows show influence of Islamic structural design. The height of the octagonal ground floor of this structure is almost 10 feet, making it the highest storey of this tower. One of the distinctive feature of this structure is that each of it’s successive storey has been constructed in the decreasing order of height and breadth of it’s base storey. The total height of Satkhanda is 35 feet approximately. The tower has numerous triple-arched huge windows and compartments. A flight of spiral steps leads to the different storeys of the building. From the uppermost storey of the facade, one can see the beauty of the city’s adjacent area. The construction work of Satkhanda was initiated by King Mohammed Ali Shah during his reign in the years 1837-1842. He built it as a watch-tower with an intention of having the bird’s eye view of the old city area of Lucknow along with it’s royal buildings. There is also a myth about the building that it was constructed for having a sight of chand for Eid. ‘It’s said that the construction of this structure was stopped as the king had hurt his leg while climbling down the stairs of this structure while it was being constructed. And since then, people started treating it as a bad omen and left it unfinished. But this is a fake rumoured story as Mohammed Ali Shah was 65 years old when he was elected as the king of Awadh and at the same time he was not fit with his hands and legs, therefore, not being in a condition to climb the stairs of the tower’, states Roshan Taqui, the prominent historian of Awadh. ‘It’s exquisite designs and marvelous layout makes it a must-see edifice of Lucknow’, says Brijesh Yadav, a student. ‘Being lured by just seeing the unfinished tower, has left me wondering as to how amazing it would look when it’s renovation gets completed. Waah Lucknow!’, says Geeta Srivastava, a home-maker. Inspite of the fact that the renovation work has been taken up and guards have been assigned the duty to look after the safety of the edifice, the tower still stands deserted with just animals prowling around. The pathway to it is uneven and dirty. Adding to the grievance, the backside of the tower is treated as a dumpsite for household wastes and is also a safe place for drug traffickers.

If you are interested in history, then definitely go to this place, it is a very good place. About satkhanda Lucknow truly has an array of monuments which speak highly of its cultural stance and amidst these historically significant structures, Satkhanda comes up in discussion sooner than later. A red-brick obelisk which is still hailed highly among historians for its towering beauty, Satkhanda attracts eyes from all over the city and beyond. The Satkhanda watchtower or 'the tower of seven storeys', is seated just outside the Chhota Imambada and is admired for its medieval design wrapped in yarns of magnificence and beauty. It is popularly said that Nawab Naseer-ud-Daulah of Awadh, had primarily intended to construct a nine storey structure- Naukhanda. It was slated to be an eighth wonder of the world and this structure had aspirations of excelling over the grandeur of the Tower of Babylon or the Leaning Tower of Pisa. One of the prominent features of this structure is that each of its successive levels, have been designed in the decreasing order of height and breadth, of it's base storey. The tower has numerous triple-arched huge windows and compartments and there's a spiral staircase inside, which takes you to the top and reveals a panoramic view of the city... Thanks.. 🙏🙏

Finished building would have been fantastic. Its four storeys and not seven. Two storys go around: 1. King died midway construction and could not complete. 2. Construction stopped by king as his daughter died for whom he was constructing, to see moon a bit closer.

The tower(Satkhanda) is made from red bricks incorporating fine subtleties of Mughal, Greek, and French architecture. The tower was built by Nawab Mohammad Ali Shah in 1842. It was supposed to build 30 meters high, a 7-story tower but the construction work was abandoned after the untimely death of Nawab Mohammad Ali Shah. The architectural pediments and framework of Satkhanda seem to have been influenced by the delicate Greek structural design while the arches of windows and gates depict Mughal and French designs. The octagonal-shaped ground floor of the tower stands tall at 20 feet, thus making it the tallest floor of the tower

A lovely monument, of which the story told by our tour guide was that a Mughal king was building it for his daughter, there were supposed to be 7 steps, but the princess expired while the 4th one was built. The construction stopped after that, and no one visited this building as well. Each floor has a different design, and looks beautiful. No one is allowed to enter the building.

Satkhanda, built in 1842 by Nawab Mohammad Ali Shah, is a decaying 67 meter red-brick watchtower, located just opposite to the Hussainabad Imambara. It is a splendor of medieval architecture and is visited by a number of tourists from all over the world. The tower shows a blend of French and Italian style structural designs. It was constructed during the time of Nawab Muhamad Ali Shah, but his untimely demise in 1840 blocked its construction. Though the towering structure is named as Satkhanda, which means seven stories, it holds only four stories. Famed as the tallest tower in India, Satkhanda, is believed to be built in the 1880s in memory of Sir George Couper, a reform-minded Governor of UP.

    (Translated by Google) The royal buildings of Lucknow are the impressive buildings of the last chapter of the Middle Ages, which have full influence of Indoceramic architectural art. The buildings that Nawab Saadat Ali Khan built during his reign are covered in French and Italian architecture. One such beautiful building is Satkhanda. Satkhanda Palace in Hussainabad was built in 1842 by Muhammad Ali Shah, the third emperor of Awadh. Its quality is that the angles have changed on every floor and the structure of the arches has also changed. The emperor wanted that from the roof of this tall building, flocks of royal buildings of Lucknow could be seen, which in that time defeated the Babylonians. Muhammad Ali Shah sat on the throne Sultanate of Awadh on 8 July 1837, and a few days later laid the foundation of his Hussainabad near Daulatkhana Kadim, the residence of Nawab Asafuddaula. He built many beautiful buildings but regretted that he could not see Satkhanda being built. The Nawab could not even see Naukhanda Palace, Jumma Masjid and Baradari. The Nawabi was convinced that if the builder died in the middle, he would be left as he was, after being called a wretch. Even though this building is turning into ruins today, its beauty does not seem less than anywhere.
