Enormous wine selection. The food was excellent here and was perfect for a nice summer dinner. We heard great things about the pork chop here, and had to try some. We also tried the recommendations of our waiter, who was professional and offered some excellent suggestions. I think we’ll be back soon, and would recommend this to others looking for an intimate setting date night location.

Elegant restaurant with exceptional food. Loved that it isn't pretentious. Our server was friendly, knowledgeable, and very attentive. Would highly recommend it. We went there to celebrate my wife's birthday and she wants to go back next year.

Absolutely the best overall restaurant in Kansas City. Eclectic tastes from seafood to steaks. Appetizers are each a work of culinary expertise and the chef and kitchen staff deserve a round of applause. Small plates and regular entrees available. Staff was extremely knowledgeable and provided outstanding service. It is expensive but you will get an equal or in our case higher level of service. A true experience that everyone should have the chance to experience + a superb wine selection.

The mussels were delicious and I would definitely order them again. I was a little worried that the curry would completely overtake the dish, but the sauce was smooth and light and complemented the mussels. The wild boar ragu was super flavorful, and even better the next day when reheated. I actually reheated it with the leftover risotto and it was even better than with the noodles. The risotto is amazing and I really wish they would make the ragu dish with it instead. The only item ordered that I was not a fan of was the brussel sprouts. The balsamic was not reduced enough so the flavor of the dish was a bit off. Overall, the food was great and I will definitely come back to try other items.

This is a high-end restaurant. It's very sophisticated. The wine list is huge. The food portions are small, but very tasty. I was there with coworkers and we tried lots of new foods. I was pleased with everything. The waiters are great, too.

Came here last night to celebrate my birthday and from start to finish, my husband and I were blown away! The dinning area is very cute, and much quieter than the bar area (which was beautiful as well). The food was awesome! We ordered the mussels for an app, along with their version of french onion soup, followed by the rack of lamb and the grouper special. I cannot stress how excellent the food was! I saw some other reviews saying the portions are small...I don't agree! I had to stop eating the side dishes to save room for dessert! The waiter was incredibly knowledgable about the menu and the wines- One of the best dining experiences we have had yet! Thank you JJs!

I enjoyed it. Never had Lamb before the Rack if Lamb was honestly one of the best things I've ever had. My wife had the Salmon she liked it. But I also don't just eat at fancy places like this. It's pretty expensive. If you're looking for a bottle of wine the got from $20 to $9,000 I'm not an alcohol fan. Pretty quick food service. And honestly I think I'm just not fancy enough to truly enjoy the cuisine. I'd still come back

I have tried this French-American restaurant a few times, and each time it was fantastic. The interior decorations and the arts are beautiful. The atmosphere is cozy and relaxed. The food is delicious and prepared well. The teriyaki salmon and grilled lamb chop are my favorite dishes. The patio seating is excellent. I do recommend reservations on the weekend. Also, I do like the constant updates regards COVID from this restaurant. They have installed a filtration system to eliminate 99% of bacteria from the fair (the same system installed in hospitals). Knowing this makes me feel more comfortable dining in this restaurant.

Just OK. No presentation on the plate at all and the waiter missed several things. For the price, definitely not impressed by the quality of the food. Too bad, because this place could be really nice if they tried harder.

Amazing food and our server was awesome. Appetizers were very tasty and the baked brie with honey was amazing. Could eat that every day. Onion soup was very good, not bitter, and had a great sweet-ish taste. Steak was perfectly done as requested. The lemoncello cake was sooooo good. Everything was great when reheated for dinner the next night!

One of our favorite places. The food is consistently good here. The bar tenders make the best drinks. The bacon wrapped shrimp is a must. Outdoor seating is a must when its nice out. Large area outside to gather. The owners are there quite a bit to make sure the experience is personal. We usually get the steaks a salad and drinks. The carrot cake is our favorite for dessert.

Upscale dining experience. Great service. Variety of dishes with a few specials. We tried the sirloin, lamb, chicken marsala, boar ragu, and daily pasta. All tasted good. The lamb was a little thin and overcooked, but we felt bad sending it back. Chicken was perfectly prepared but the mashed potato pairing was just ok. The rage was excellent as well as the pasta. Dessert was also quite delicious. Inwould have to say the specialty drinks were almost better than the food and the wine list extensive. The one thing that would have been good to know going in (or I could have missed it) there was a 3.5% CC charge. I expect this from a mom and pop shop, not an upscale restaurant. If I would have known or caught his before our visit, we would have gone elsewhere.

Google, your fault for not offering 1/2 stars. JJ's has the ambiance, the wine list and the menu to impress. Why not 5 stars? Well, the stars weren't aligned. But still, impressive. I highly recommend....in a nearly 5 star way! Update....returned one year later and it was a busier night than my first visit with all kinds of activity....more awesome people dining of course. Had a great Cabernet and even better ribeye. Although the slab of meat was nuked a little past my requested medium, the flavor compensated. Bottom line, I love the place and want to return with Eva Longoria some day.

Perfect location for a date night. The atmosphere is amazing, food is great, and service is excellent. We ordered a few different items. Appetizers: Lobster and goat cheese purses (14/10) Pizza to go(was smaller which was perfect. At first look, seemed okay, but turned out amazing) Entree: Chicken marsala: We both loved this. My wife ordered this and enjoyed it thoroughly. Came with some delicious mashed potatoes. 16oz ribeye done medium(Started ordering medium places since so many of my steams were coming out blue rare) and mashed potatoes. Steak was a little over charred on the outside, but was perfect inside and delicious. Dessert: Limoncello (recommended by the waiter). We both thought this was a highlight of the night. Perfect amount of sweetness. We wanted a whole cake and not just a slice. Overall, highly recommend for a date night! It is a little pricey and more of a fine dining atmosphere, just a heads up

It was very good, but I expected better. My KC strip had a good sear, flavor, but I was hoping for more, would recommend the steaks with the demi-glace, which was good. The boar ragu on the pizza was also delicious, must try.

We love JJ’s! The food is always delicious, the service delightful, and the atmosphere is very relaxing. Our most recent visit was on a Sunday evening, and Christopher, our server, was attentive, helpful, and friendly while our food was spectacular! Highly recommend and we always make sure we have at least one meal there whenever we visit KC!

I wish I could give more than 5 stars. The restaurant is beautiful, the waiter friendly and offered great suggestions, and the food was fast and delicious. This was my first time, but I certainly hope it will not be my last. Oh,yes the wine choices are in a very thick book and ours was delicious.

The petite filet tasted off and I should have just stopped eating it but when you pay that much for a steak you hate to waste it. I think it was the sauce but hard to tell. Spent the entire night and my entire thanksgiving with food poisoning. Ruined my entire holiday and weekend. Never coming back here again.

Dined during restaurant week and was not disappointed. The pear and stilton salad wasn’t on the special menu but it sounded good so I gave it a try. It was wonderful! All of the food was amazing. The paco shrimp, the cod and of course the ganache...all absolutely delicious. The service was prompt and our server was very friendly and attentive. I will definitely come back.

We sat on the bar side. Our waitress was super nice and very attentive. My filet came out very well done the first time after ordering medium. Waitress was very apologetic. Second one came out and it was slightly better. More medium well. A gentleman who we had not spoken to came over to ask how it was, he was not the manager. When I told him it’s a little better he loudly scoffed in front of us and corrected me on how the steak looked. He said it was “rare” in the middle. Then he walked away very rudely. We weren’t asking for any refund or for it to be made again so his rude reaction was the worst part of our experience there. Manager never spoke to us but most likely was made aware of the issue, as soon as we left he checked our bill to check our tip I assume. I really hope our waitress was able to keep the majority of the tip as she was the best part of our experience! We did mention to her the rudeness we experienced by the one staff member.

I felt a little out of place when I walked in here. I was on vacation with a polo shirt and a hoodie; I should have at least worn a dress shirt: the place is nice. Food is fantastic. I had the wild boar pasta and my date had meatballs and pasta. JJ's beats out the typical Italian fare. If you are a wine lover, you will love this place: hundreds of choices. I also had the lemoncillo cake for dessert: decadent and perfect. Give them a try. It's a nice place to take a date.

JJ's is just a wonderful social/dining venue. A classic, but not stuffy atmosphere for meeting friends, old and new in the bar or having an amazing dinner in the restaurant. Food and wine options never disappoint -always top notch! A "must visit" when in KC.

Great place to try new wines. The sauce with the steak medallions was delicious. The carrot cake was also amazing. My husband got to try wild roar in a ragu.

Food and wine was good. Service awesome! I always thought the bar area as really pretty with wood and dimmed lights. But… it could be so much more elevated with good jazz on the radio system, not 70’s/80”’s music and classic rock. With that kind of extensive wine list, good jazz music would just elevate everything!

Nothing necessarily negative about our experience but it definitely was not the same as last time we visited. The first time was romantic and had an incredible energy and ambiance in the dining area. We were somewhat disappointed by the overall quality of the food and the atmosphere this time. It was dead on a Friday night with not so much as music playing. It was almost awkward. We really looked forward to coming back. Next time we will visit during lunch or perhaps opt for the patio.

Jimmy, Thank you for reaching out. The entrees desired were not available. The fish dish was the size of an appetizer, the sides less then desirable. I eat lunch at the bar the day before, and enjoyed that experience. Dinner the following day with 3 colleagues was not on par with a restaurant of the rankings and comments. Lisa

We were standing in the plaza trying to decide where to have dinner and a person walking by suggested JJ’s. So glad she did. Had a light meal with wine on the patio. I had the roast d’anjou pear and Stilton cheese salad while my bride had the smoked salmon salad. Dessert to go. Beautiful setting and the food was amazing.

JJs is a good restaurant. Food is decent, prices are high. Wine selection one of the best. Overall not bad. However, last weekend I was there for dinner and when I got my bill there was a 3% credit card fee automatically added to the bill. Call me old fashioned, but to me that is a part of doing business. I know that Missouri allows it, but doesn't mean it has to be done. It's not much, but tells me JJs would rather upset a customer by charging it than setting their prices to absorb it. I have never seen this before, especially in a higher end restaurant with already high prices. There are definitely better options at the same price point (or less) that have better food and don't charge the 3%.

Went for date night and really enjoyed our dining experience. We started at the bar for re meal drinks. JJs has a great variety to choose from, and the bartender was knowledgeable and attentive. Then we moved outside for dinner. The food and service were generally great. My date didn't like his swordfish, and my carrot cake was dry and tasted like a bad grocery store version. Otherwise, the food was delicious. The ambiance must be mentioned cause it was so nice and added to the success of evening. I definitely recommend JJs for date night!

My fiance wanted to stay home and get a frozen Stouffers lasagna. I told him no and that I wanted to try this restaurant. I should have gotten the Stouffers it would have been better.. the Pinot was alright. Except it looked like they gave me 2 shots of it in a glass. So worth 10 bucks.. I didn't know if that was Boar Ragu or mediocre mashed meatballs over an undercooked pasta. Gee thanks guys.

Although the interior was enticing as usual, we opted for the patio. It was shady and provided a comfortable and pleasant ambience and atmosphere. All employees were professional, gracious and accommodating. Regarding cocktails and wine, all were excellent and we are rather particular.

JJ's is a Kansas City staple, and the new location continues the tradition well. Friendly, knowledgeable wait staff and a unique menu make this is a great choice for a not-too-fancy upscale dinner. Skip over the steaks, which aren't anything special in a steak town, and try some of the other proteins instead. And if french onion soup is your thing, definitely some of the best around.

  • 3/5 Rebekah B. 3 years ago on Google
For the price I paid I was highly disappointed in the service. I felt like my waiter wanted to be anywhere but serving us...I get having bad days and service industry can be very trying. But. We were there to have fun and enjoy everything wonderful we had been told about JJ's. The food was ok. Everyone else besides myself had the Restaurant Week menu but I had a steak and soup. The portions for my friends were not something that would fill you up if you were hungry and looking to have a MEAL. I shared my plate with everyone because it really was delicious! Ended up ordering another appetizer before dessert because we were all still a little unfulfilled. Dessert was by far the best part! Definitely would choose somewhere else when looking for a classy delicious meal on the plaza next.

Impressed by and completely enjoyed our first dinner at JJ’s. They checked every box and did everything right. Even the parking works great. Park yourself in the garage or use the valet. Use the “other” elevator to the law firm building’s lobby, and you’re there. Experienced staff make you feel welcome and relaxed immediately. The dining room feels intimate with its dim lighting, but it’s neither crowded nor noisy. What a unique experience these days to be able to carry on a conversation in a restaurant without having to strain to hear or shout to be heard.

We were overall quite happy with our experience. We came in support of the restaurant week benefit. The drinks and each dish were tasty and well presented. Especially the dark chocolate Grenache desert that was melt in your mouth silky smooth. I would like to return and try more of the menu. Bar and dining room have a nice look. The service could use a little polish.

Best Take-Out in KC We've had a lot of take out food over the last 9 months. This was the best. We ordered a number of small plates to see if we could find something really good. They were all great. We had the house salad, shrimp, trout, mussels and lamb chop. All were truly outstanding. Nice job JJ's!

Very, very disappointing stressful experience last night. My girlfriend and I were seated in the back dining area between a party of 14 another table of 10. Forgot the concept of social distancing and being able to hear each other. We couldn’t even have a conversation between us. We asked to move to another table in the corner that was only marginally better. We still had to keep repeating ourselves because of the noise. By the time we finished our meal we couldn’t leave fast enough. I travel all over and have dined at literally thousands of restaurants and I can’t remember the last time I asked for a manager but I did last night. 10 minutes later Justin finally showed up at our table and even he was having a hard time hearing me and quite frankly I couldn’t understand or make sense of his explanation. He then gave me his business card and when I asked why he gave it to me he replied in case I want to email him any feedback. I replied that if I am going to spend any time using a keyboard to express my feedback it wasn’t going to be in an email. He didn’t seem to catch my drift. So, this is my feedback.

We went to happy hour and the service was terrible. Our first waiter never returned. We had to flag down another employee to order more drinks. That server got an attitude with some people at our table. The worst part was the owner was there drinking at the bar and was oblivious to the bad service of his staff.
