Everything about the meal was very good, but not necessarily perfect. I loved the ambience and the wait staff were very friendly. The pate was just okay, truthfully I found it to be a bit of a letdown. The salmon and pork cheek were delicious, but they lacked any complexity. The flan was good, but not memorable. Though I had a good time, I wouldn't consider this one of my favorite restaurants in the Kansas City area.

A wonderful experience! My wife and I have been here 3 times now, and it's been amazing every single time. The service is great and the food is superb. I always get the French Onion Soup. I tried out some different options this time, but we loved all the food. I ordered the dover fish and my wife got the salmon. Both had incredible flavors. We also ordered the crab cake as an appetizer, which was great. It is a little more expensive, but well worth the money. It's a great place to celebrate any special occasion. Overall, highly recommend and it's always a great experience.

Such a lovely place for lunch on the patio. Everything was excellent and felt like a little escape to the south of France. Wonderful service and the food was delicious. The scallops were cooked to perfection, seared and soft inside. The French onion soup had a lighter broth than I prefer, but still great flavor. Mussels were fresh and the broth was perfect for enjoying with bread. I especially loved the crab cake - full of crab meat and crunchy on the outside.

As we awaited our food the man at the next table tried his partner's salmon and exclaimed "That's outstanding!" Which pretty well sums up Cafe Provence. Unique food expertly prepared with impeccable service in the most French setting in Kansas City. Outstanding indeed

If you're looking for somewhere to take a loved one for a memorable night on the town, this is it. My fianceé and I savored every bite of the mussels, filet mignon, and lamb chops. The wine selection is extensive and does not disappoint. The wait times were very reasonable and our water glasses were never empty thanks to the attentive staff. I am so glad I did some exploring and found this local gem. What an intimate and unforgettable evening at Cafe Provence!

Fantastic little French café. Ambiance and quality reminds of the West Village. Perfect spot for date night or ladies who lunch.

Cafe' Provence is a very nice, restaurant that provides authentic French cuisine and atmosphere. The food is absolutely amazing 🤩!! The desserts are very decadent and rich in beauty and flavor.....more of an expensive place to eat, but worth it..... Angus was our Waiter Ambassador and made my experience very pleasant.

One of the best meals I've enjoyed in a very long time. Ambience is great - I felt like I was back in France. Great wine list. And if you have the option of the lemon souffle... do not debate. Just order it. UPDATE: Cafe Provence continues to impress. Absolutely stunning meal tonight.

The food at Cafe Provence is wonderful. My friends and I went for their Monday Soufflé night. We were not disappointed. Hands down the best soufflé I’ve had; the texture and flavors all worked so perfectly together especially in time for the fall season. The flavor for this particular week was an Apple Cinnamon soufflé. They rotate every week a new flavor so if anyone is interested, you can sign up for their newsletter that tells you what flavor it is ahead of time! For the main course, I had the halibut. It was cooked very well. It was not over cooked and well seasoned. My friends had the salmon dish. It was also cooked very well. The flavors were a little heavier compared to the halibut but still delicious! Another friend had the veal (not pictured). It had great flavor but after eating the whole dish, it was too salty. The carrot curry soup was delicious and creamy with that added layer of flavor due to the curry. Overall, the seafood dishes were better than the meat dishes. And my favorite detail, the food comes out piping hot and does not feel like it sits too long at the pass. Definitely recommend trying if you’ve never had French food!

We reserved what's left one of the 3 available time slots at 815pm. Despite the late hours, the restaurant is still packed. No one greeted us in the small entryway and we were obviously in the way of the waiter in and out serving. After what seems to be an eternity, we were finally told to wait at the bar for the table. They had to put two tables together to accommodate us three, the tables are uneven. Other than that, and one dish, the duck breast sauce was too salty, everything else was excellent. Thanks to the excellent waiter, James who made our dining experience very enjoyable. The Tuesday prefix 4 course meal was scrumptious, butter lettuce was the best,my friend's scallops and brussel sprouts were cooked just right. Will definitely return.

We were lucky to get a reservation on Saturday night. We had a good bottle of but everything else was excellent. We had the olives and almonds for an appetizer. Always excellent and we always end up taking some home. We had the halibut and filet both were seasoned and cooked to perfection. Service was attentive and quick. Everything at the restaurant is the best. I had the onion soup the Capital grill soup is comparable but that is the only one that is.

Always the best, well thought out food. Service is top notch. When you reserve a table, it is yours for the evening, no serving fast to get you out. Very meticulous and thought through. Our favorite restaurant in town❤️ below are the sea bass special and warm goat cheese salad.

I’ve heard amazing things about this place and the chefs, so I had to come try it! The food was on another level of perfection and executed so well. The service was amazing, as well as the ambiance. Super cute, cozy, and I love that it’s family owned. Everything was made with love & perfection.

Lots of gluten free options!!! I found this French gem through TripAdvisor. I called ahead and was delighted when they told me that most of their menu was already gluten free and they were very familiar with customizing plates to accommodate gluten allergies. Since everything is made from scratch, they could even do DAIRY FREE by making it oil based vs with butter. We enjoyed the diver scallops with a mustard mushroom cream sauce as an appetizer. I indulged in the pork loin with roasted garlic honey sauce, corn polenta, and a sherry reduction. My husband enjoyed the veal in a lemon caper sauce. Oh and there was DESSERT. Not just sorbet and ice cream (though they did have those, too), but THREE GF options. I had the lemon curd, cherry and blackcurrant compote, Mascarpone Chantilly treat that arrived in a generously sized bowl. My husband wolfed down the
flourless chocolate cake stuffed with chocolate mousse, savoring every bite. I cannot recommend this place enough and I’m surprised I’m having to add it to findmeglutenfree. Oh and be sure to dress up. It’s in the top 100 most romantic restaurants in the country.

Wonderful. No wonder it has been in the top 100 restaurants for the last ten years! Make a reservation. They will have your table set for you when you get there. Space heaters stationed for outside dining. Every ingredient is accented in a very authentic way.

Absolutely delightful. You get the impression that the owners of Café Provence are French, because they nailed it, having personally spent time in Paris France. My wife and I had dinner there to celebrate Valentine's Day and the food, the wine, the service, the atmosphere were all impeccable. Had it been acceptable we would've licked our plates clean :) Get your life together and make a reservation at Café Provence.

Went for lunch on a Saturday for a birthday celebration. French onion soup, chicken crepe and desserts were delicious. Small, intimate French restaurant with sidewalk seating in nice weather.

This place was recommended to us by word of mouth and it did not at all disappoint. A multi-award winning restaurant, I treated my wife to this place for her birthday dinner and we absolutely loved it. The staff was friendly and attentive and our service was great. The restaurant is pretty small, so I recommend a reservation, but very nice for an intimate setting and a classy atmosphere. To start, I had the soupe du jour, which was a potato and artichoke soup. It was pureed and delicious. For my entree, I had le fletan, the Alaskan halibut with shrimp bisque sauce, sweet corn polenta, and chanterelles. The fish was cooked perfectly and all the flavors went together very well and it was easy to eat, not too heavy. My wife had the poitrine de poulet aux morilles, a pan-seared chicken breast. She loved the cook of the chicken skin and the chicken was juicy as well. The gratin potatoes with it were especially tasty. I wish we saved room for dessert, because I assume that would have been amazing as well!

We had an outstanding meal at Cafe Provence. It’s a quaint little restaurant in Prairie Village. Highly recommend reservations. Started off with their French onion soup - just amazing. The chef’s special of the evening was sea bass, mashed potatoes with a cream sauce and spinach. Just outstanding. Topped it off with a savignon blanc wine and carrot cake and French press coffee for dessert. Looking forward to going back.

Café Provence is a gem. The food was fantastic, the service impeccable. I had the braised lamb and somehow it was even better the next day. My only small comment is that it was very warm in the restaurant!

This is one of the first restaurants I came to on moving to Kansas City and it gave me a great feel for the beautiful culinary experiences I would have here! Wonderful family-run restaurant with authentic, beautifully prepared food in very cozy environment. This time around I had the tomato soup (heavenly on a snowy day, especially with heaps of the delicious bread and butter) and the vegetarian puff pastry. We also enjoyed a lovely rosé . Highly recommended.

Absolutely amazing! The service was fabulous, and the food was even better. The crab cake was as good as the ones my husband and I ate when we visited the east coast (maybe better). The goat cheese salad was simple but well balanced. My filet was cooked to perfection. My husband had the grouper that was on special, and it was equally delicious. The dining room is cozy and the perfect setting for a romantic dinner. I cannot say enough how much we enjoyed our experience. We will definitely be back!

One of our favorite restaurants in Kansas City and luckily in our neighborhood. We love going to lunch here, although it does get some competition for us from their other restaurant, the French Market! The food and staff is always very good. My favorite lunch, foie gras. Just the right amount and a huge treat.

Unlimited bread basket and friendly service. Very busy on Mondays, since it’s soufflé day, which is so worth it, because their soufflés are fluffy and only $10!

  • 5/5 Patrick W. 1 year ago on Google
Dinner was amazing, service was spot on. Definitely going back again. Started with escargot and bread service. Bread came with garlic butter but I couldn't stay away from the sauce the snails were served in. Will have to try the onion soup but will be difficult if they have clam chowder again. Veal was tender and tasty. Desserts are individual sized but we were full enough we really could have shared one.

Great restaurant. Not too big so I’d definitely recommend reservations. The prix fixe menu was great. The mussels and the goat cheese cheesecake were particularly delicious. Highly recommend.

Awesome food and a great atmosphere! My girlfriend and I have ordered the Prix Fixe a few times and off the regular dinner menu once. Each course and meal was some of the best food I've ever had. Overall, I think it would be hard to find a better dining experience. Café Provence has definitely earned every one of their numerous rewards and accolades.

Definitely, a great place to put on the list for KC restaurants, I was probably expecting more flavors, but no complaints, the service was great, the food was excellent and the environment was very relaxed great for a romantic dinner or a couple's birthday celebration.

  • 3/5 Aida B. 1 year ago on Google
I'll get straight to it. Souffle is the only item I will come back for over and over again.. maybe if wait staff stops being snooty. My short rib was fatty. The potatoes were bland. My fiance had the salmon and lacked seasoning and flavor. There is no warmth to the restaurant. I'm not sure who the older lady is with short white hair, but she chooses what tables to stop by, be friendly, and chat. I'm sure they are locals, but as first timers and new to the city, a smile or hello doesn't take much. It also goes down to the wait staff. Just because it's a French restaurant, it was utterly pretentious.

  • 3/5 A G. 11 months ago on Google
Stopped in for lunch. Granted we were 30 min late for our reservation ( I did call and let them know we were running late in advance) and were told we only had an hour, which was fine with us. We ordered French onion soup which was very tasty and then were told 3 more times how much time we had left. Starting to get annoying now as we got it the first time. Needless to say, no time to order food. Not sure if we will go back.

  • 5/5 Bryan W. 1 year ago on Google
It's a genuine pleasure to eat food prepared by people who know what they're doing. Everything I've gotten here was excellent, but I particularly recommend the Tuesday evening prix fixe menu. On my most recent visit, the first course was chilled shrimp in lime and chili aioli. I've had enough indifferently-prepared shrimp cocktail to dread this as described, but it was absolutely perfect. The shrimp was flavorful and not at all soggy or slimy. And the sauce was excellent. As was the béarnaise on the arctic char for the main course. Cafe Provence's flavors are subtle. Don't expect to be overwhelmed by the seasonings. But they're all the more delicious for their delicate blending. And naturally a French cafe serves excellent dessert. The mille-feuille was the perfect conclusion to a terrific meal. To be sure, the place has a definite atmosphere. Be prepared for stereotypical French cafe music in the background. Several of our fellow diners appeared to be regulars, though the staff treated us as if we came there all the time too. Which makes sense, as we will certainly be back.

  • 5/5 jennifer b. 6 months ago on Google
Absolutely delightful. The swordfish was perfectly prepared. It was presented on a bed of shrimp risotto, which was also perfectly prepared. The dish bursting with so much flavor. It was their lunch special. Every single bite was amazing. Including dessert. I just love the atmosphere, the wait staff are so helpful and professional.

Cafe Provence, as usual, was perfection! My husband suggested a Monday nite dinner (outside, of course) here since it's the only nite dessert souffles are served. Mmm!! The wine 🥂 was wonderful, as was his grouper special. I decided on the Endive Bleu salad & a crab cake. Fantastic!! All followed by a souffle. Magnifique!! Already looking forward to our next visit!!!

Extremely disappointed... The escargot had tooo much raw garlic!! I could not taste anything for the next 20min!! Even the waitress said the chef exaggerated.... Then, the veal had no flavor but acid lemon, just terrible!!! Usually the French cuisine is known by mastering the mixture of the ingredients of the main dish... this was by far, one of the worst restaurant of my life! I have no idea why it has so many good reviews!! Flavors experienced: raw garlic and lemon....nothing else. I’m so sad....

This is a charming very intimate restaurant that is authentically French. The food is very good though the menu is limited. I had Foie Gras for my appetizer that was absolutely fabulous. My entree was the grouper with gnocchi and it was also very good. It is expensive but is worth the treat. My desert was a banana and Nutella crepe.

  • 5/5 Sarah Smith de V. 4 years ago on Google
Very good service. The salad was light and tasty. The fish was well prepared, fresh-tasting. The vegetarian dish was delightful, full of winter tubers and such--- all flavorful and NOT over cooked. Wine selections were far above the norm in quality for "by-the-glass" offerings. The only caveat is the dessert: though delicious, the shell of the chocolate soufflé was not properly light and airy. I hesitate to mention this, but a soufflé... well, it's a sacred dish.

I am unable to convey the most wonderful experience I had at Cafe Provence. The decor was magnificent, the food delightful and extremely rich in flavor and service was above excellent. We did not go without. The meal for two of us was worth $138.00 we paid. We say it was worth 5 times the amount. I strongly suggest making reservations for dinner. The number of tables were few. I believe the bar area could seat five guest, if you do not have a reservation.
