We’ve always loved Char Bar but haven’t been for a few years. Came through KC today and wanted to have lunch somewhere that would accommodate us with our dog since we are traveling. Our server, Joe B, did a fabulous job dealing with our chaos as we tried to feed and manage a baby, toddler and pup. We were impressed and thankful at how quickly the food came out. Their brown bag lunch special was a pretty good deal. We each had a burnt end sandwich—delicious. We like their BBQ sauce, but it is very much on the sweet side. The spicy sauce wasn’t very spicy. Regular and sweet potato fries were great. The broccoli/bacon side, not so much. Beans were pretty good. Our daughter’s Turkey sandwich from the kids meal looked the same as an adult size, so we helped her eat it, and it was also delicious. The highlight of this place is the outdoor patio scene for sure. We loved it and will be back next time we pass through!

This place is great, the staff is friendly, and the atmosphere is cool. There is an outdoor okay area, and a parking garage that's free. The burnt heaven is such a good sandwich. I highly recommend getting the jalapeno corn bread muffins, and putting the butter, jelly, and honey on it. The fried pickles are great, the Mac and cheese is such a full portion with the burnt ends. You also need to get the bread pudding cause it's great.

Solid BBQ. It was good to be back in KC and this place held the standard you come to expect. The ribs were nice, a little lighter on the meat than I'd like, but the flavor was good. The sausage and assorted meats platter was solid. The turkey was ok, but the pork options were done well. Their fries were nice. We did a ton of sides, and I am pretty opinionated on Cole slaw. You can tell a quality BBQ establishment off the quality of their coleslaw (usually)- and theirs was great. They had bacon in it. That is a first! BACON. Tater salad, beans and Mac n cheese were ok and they had a couple of salad sides also. The beans had a nice spice. The hush puppies are worth the try. They also have several sauces, I enjoyed them all. They served it on the side, which is the right way to go!

This was our first time here. Menus were via a QR code which was interesting. Price was pretty good considering the amount of food we got to try. Staff was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu items and sauce. Personally the burnt ends were AMAZING! Plan to take the kiddos for a family night out next.

I don't know how I have not reviewed Char Bar before. I have eaten here several times. They make great BBQ. The burnt ends, brisket, and sausage are spot on. Great bar with a decent selection of bottles and brews to choose from. They even have large ice balls. Most recent visit was for a business dinner. Our server was prompt, everything came out correctly. And none of our drinks got empty. I will come here again

Great food, great atmosphere, nice staff! Love the outdoor area with yard games! Pretty unique! The wings were worth every penny, didn't need any ranch or any extra sauce in my opinion. One of the best wings I've had! The sandwich was also very tasty, wish it would of came with fries instead of being extra but oh well it's only money

Great place to hang out and caught a bit of the late Sunday game. Very cool atmosphere and great menu. Ate too much, drank just enough, and will be back next time we are here. Great Bloody Mary and tried a few craft beers. The waitress was top notch and really added to our night and trip woth suggestions.

Very yummy BBQ! I can't believe this was my first time here! I got the 2 meat plate with baked beans & potato salad. Hubs got the same but fries & baked beans as the sides. My meats were brisket & Turkey. The Turkey was good but the brisket was better!! I really liked the sides and the sauce was yummy. They have sweet & spicy bbq sauce on the table. My daughter had the sausage/burnt end grits. She thought they were okay but says too much parmesan. I didn't taste it so I can't really rate it. My 4 year old had chicken strips & fries, simple but good. Overall, I liked their menu, there were lots of options! Customer service was great. We will return for sure

I visited Char Bar while searching for a place to eat dinner after working a case. I chose Char Bar because most places were closing at 9pm, and they closed at 11pm. Char Bar doesn't disappoint when it comes to Kansas City's reputation for barbecue. You get generous portions of food based on what you order. I had the Burnt Ends tray. Where the meat is smoked twice, then, charred. Hence the name, "Char Bar". Burnt Ends is their signature dish on their menu, and it comes with 2 small sides which accompanied the dish. The vibe of the venue is really laid back & comfortable. At this location, I'd suggest that you sit outside. It gives you the feeling of attending a family cookout. You can play corn hole or sit by the fire pit while having a drink. The service staff matched the quality of the food and the ambiance of the venue. Overall it was a great time.

James our server took good car of us! The manager stopped by to check onnus and thanked us for coming out. The cold has made Restaurant Week in KC a rough one, so glad we could help a bit. Great food, good service, nice atmosphere... looking forward to coming back soon!

Got served a rotten potato. I've been here multiple times and the food has always been great. We went a couple of days ago and ordered the loaded Jojo potatoes. They're big chunks of potato covered in cheese, bacon, etc. I cut a piece off a big chunk and ate it before realizing that the piece of the potato was completely black and rotted. The toppings disguised the flavor enough that I didn't immediately realize what was wrong. We double-checked with our server to confirm they don't use purple potatoes or something. They said they do not and took the food away. The server's apology wasn't particularly genuine considering we were served rotten vegetables (I know that part isn't the server's fault specifically). We did not order entrees lol. Picture is the rotten potato in the bottom left compared to what the normal ones looked like. It's concerning that the kitchen staff either didn't notice or chose not to throw it away.

The food was very good. We sat at a high top table near the bar. Our server walked past our table at least a dozen times, each time walking past my empty glass. When we asked for the check, he did offer a refill, lol. I can recommend the Triple Crown. Very good sandwich.

This was highly recommended when we were looking for a restaurant that was 'dog friendly'. We decided to eat outside with our puppy and there were other dogs there as well. Lots of outdoor games to keep people of all ages busy. There was a parking garage where we could park very close. Loved the food and we will definitely go again!

We were hungry for some KC BBQ and decided to stop in for the first time. The restaurant atmosphere is great and we were seated immediately. The food & beer was fantastic, we couldn't have asked for anything better. While the sandwiches were priced well but the sides are overpriced imo. $6-12 for a side on top of the sandwhich is too expensive. The sides were good to be fair but this place can get pretty pricey. Overall we enjoyed the meal and got exactly what we wanted.

Amazing barbecue place! The hushpuppies were the best I've ever had! I had the CBGB and it was really tasty! My husband had the brisket cheese steak and it was also delicious! Their French fries are amazingly seasoned and are a must try! Service was great, the staff is very polite and efficient, we will definitely be back!

This place was AMAZING! The food did not disappoint. We came from Oklahoma City to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday and this was one of the places on his list. We love the food and had enough left over to take on the road back. Amazing service. Our server John was exceptional 👏🏾 👌🏾. Thank you so much for making our experience great! OMG we are still talking about the food! If you in KC try this place out, you will not be disappointed!

Excellent service and while I'm not a big fan of KC style BBQ, this was the best KC style Que I've had yet. I personally prefer Texas or Memphis style BBQ. The house sauces were a bit on the sweet side but the peppery/spicy one was pretty good. Had the beef brisket sandwich. The smoked cauliflower was awesome.

My MC BBQ Journey: I’m in Kansas City for the year, and I plan to try a new bbq spot each week. Char Bar was on the list for this week. I got the half slab rib dinner which was quite tasty. The ribs were juicy, well sized, and had tons of flavor. The sweet and spicy sauces on the side complemented the meat well. The Texas toast was also a nice touch. The sides weren’t great to be honest. I got the baked beans and the potato salad. Smallish portions and the flavor didn’t stand out. I could’ve done without the sides, especially because the ribs were so delicious. Great atmosphere with friendly staff. I’ll have to come back and dine in some time.

My partner and I came here to eat dinner before going to a concert. They have happy hour specials on food and drinks. The food and service were phenomenal and we definitely will be back. Even for a pretty full house, the food came out pretty quickly. I highly recommend!

The restaurant / venue offers what I consider the best of all you want in a Barbecue, Bar and Sport watching experience. We were visiting from Pittsburgh and really enjoyed the food and the usual friendly KC peoples. Definitely worth the visit if you are looking for a great BBQ place to enjoy with friends and co-workers.

Lovely bbq experience at char bar. Their Kansas City restaurant week menu was awesome and we were so full by the time we got to dessert. I loved the duck gumbo because it was very savory but was disappointed by the deconstructed strawberry pie in a cup. It tasted like a syrupy parfait with granola at the bottom. Their creme brûlée was delicious though and would recommend.

A favorite of mine to stop at whenever I’m in KC. The food is great, but the venue itself really elevates the dining experience. There’s both indoor and outdoor seating. Indoors you’ll find an inviting, warm, and rustic atmosphere. Outside you’ll find a variety of seating arrangements, lawn games, and probably a dog or two hanging out with their owners. Eating outside definitely has this friendly, block party type vibe I’ve never seen elsewhere. Solid menu and selection of drinks to choose from and the BBQ itself has never disappointed. Will be coming back next time I’m in KC.

Ashley, was my superior and charismatic server. She was the epitome of exceptional service 👏! The restaurant was clean, capacious, and softly lit. I ordered Smoked 🐔 nuggets and 🌽 🍞 muffins. Let me just say the muffins were perfect. Moist but not mealy and full of flavor. All three toppings paired well with the muffins. Four muffins were way too many My smoked chicken nuggets were perfectly crispy, large, and full flavored. They were paired with four robust dipping sauces. I became full just looking at & smelling my food. What a wonderful first dining experience. Char Bar is conveniently located in Westport. The indoor/outdoor dining areas were both clean, spacious, and naturally lit. Customer service was fantastic from the host, server, and bussers! Thank you, again, Ashley😊!

The food overall was very good for my first time eating KC BBQ. I ordered the 3 meat plate (pictured) with burnt ends, pulled pork butt, and crispy pork belly. It comes with one side, I chose onion rings which they serve with ranch. Onion rings were good not great. The burnt ends and pork belly were very good, with the pork belly being my absolute favorite! Both were juicy and flavorful even without the sauce. The pulled pork was dry and relatively flavorless and even with sauce wasn’t that good, I wouldn’t recommend them based on my experience. Pricing was fair, but I expected either more side or more meat for the price. Also, they have a very extensive beer menu, big plus. The service and ambiance were good but nothing special. I am from Texas so I may be a little biased on the BBQ but I still would recommend this place to anyone!

This has to be my new favorite place to eat. The food was absolutely amazing. We went for brunch on a Saturday and it did not disappoint. I had the chicken and waffle sandwich and my partner had burnt ends Benedict. Both were so good. Our waiter, Stephen I think, was very friendly and very attentive. Highly recommend.

We shared the cheesesteak, sweet potato fries, jumbo smoked wings and potato salad. Last side mighta been too much, not to take away from the tastes. Oh man the tastes. The sauces, the spices, the meats... we were prepared to eat at Joe's over and over, but we're very happy to have followed a suggestion to find a new yum. Service was great, he helped with beer options and was overall great.

What a fun place. Many selections both food and drink we had a great evening in the huge patio area just relaxing. Easy going atmosphere, wonderful staff and great food.

Highly-recommended local restaurant to try out some authentic Kansas City barbecue! I tried a sampler platter including "Burnt Ends" (a.k.a. "meat marshmallows ") along with a chicken wing. I can say I am now a "Burnt Ends" fan and wonder how did I miss this all these years? Plenty of sauces to try from mild to wild, so no use in trying to describe the flavors. The restaurant has multiple dining areas, both indoors and outdoors. I'm told the outdoor area features live entertainment during the warmer months, as well as a play area for the kids. Worth a look!

Awesome food! Onion rings are huge. Hush puppies were cheesy with kick of jalapeno. We sat outside.. Great atmosphere... Bean bag game was there if you want that and was fun watching the dogs too!

Waiter was great. Food was very good. Atmosphere was pretty laid back. The Hush-puppies are outstanding! The Cornbread muffins left a little to be desired. Had the holy trinity and the burnt ends made it worth the price alone! All in all a good experience definitely will stop again when back in town next!

  • 5/5 Ernst F. 2 years ago on Google
Sucks they were out of The Holy Trinity that night I stopped by. However I did try the Triple Crown, man n cheese and slaw. All of it was a good time! I'll be back for the Holy Trinity and some religion lol.

We went on a Wednesday night and it was fairly busy. We had amazing service. Cocktails and beer selection are great (and unique!). Lots of semi-outdoor space and a big patio. Our food was excellent. Our salad was huge and I absolutely loved the sandwich I had (sausage and burnt ends - giant, smoky, and tasted great with their spicy sauce) I enjoyed the Crispy Jo Jo Potatoes a lot. I would've salted them more (no salt on the table... thanks, COVID!), but they were still pretty great. I would have liked to stay longer and try more drinks. I was impressed with their whiskey selection and would have loved to dig into that. Maybe next time!

  • 5/5 Sarah L. 2 years ago on Google
Great food with a great atmosphere with the weather would of been a little warmer so we could of enjoyed the outside games! There wasn’t anything left of what we ordered! Our waiter was amazing!

I haven’t been here in over a year, it’s still so good. The wait staff is excellent and very knowledgeable about the menu. We stopped in for lunch and had the fried pickles appetizer, and shrimp and grits They follow ALL of the Covid guidelines.

  • 5/5 David N. 2 years ago on Google
Pretty good I would say, I liked that our server (Steven) was on top of things and was able to recommend several popular items from the top of his head. One of them being the Burnt Heaven Sandwich (in the picture). I believe it's a place that's great when you're watching College football and want to also bring your dogs. My friend who was with me asked to change the channel so he can view his football team on screen, the staff was nice enough to change the channel, but the channel was quickly changed back to another channel. I don't know if it was done on purpose though. But I wont fault them for it.

  • 4/5 Stefanie 2 years ago on Google
First time here….we had the chicken nugget appetizer: think they were a bit overcooked, our least favorite item we ordered. For our meal my hubby got the Sunday chicken dinner and I got the brisket mac n cheese. Soooo good!! The chicken breading was so flavorful and crispy. The Mac n cheese was so creamy and delicious. And the brisket was melt in your mouth. The whole reason I gave 4 stars! Would have given 5 had the service been better. But a plus for being dog friendly! We’ll come again for sure.
