Kansas City Zoo is pretty incredible. The sheer size of the zoo makes for a great time that can last for hours. The layout is done very well and the ability to travel either on foot or with the tram or sky ride is very convenient. The exhibits are spacious and always seem to have great enrichment for the animals to enjoy. You can tell that Kansas City Zoo truly cares about the wildlife they take care of. The staff and docents are very knowledgeable and helpful and the merchandise is very fun and unique. I can’t say enough great things about this zoo!

This was my first time here and I spent 3.5 hours visiting on a Friday. There are many enjoyable attractions for the whole family. The zoo is large so I would recommend wearing comfortable shoes, lightweight clothing and to bring a water bottle. There are water fountains where you can refill your bottles which is great. Misting stations allow you to walk through water mist to cool down, important since there's a lot of hot concrete and a lot of walking involved. If you're a KC resident, the zoo sends out free admission coupons a few times a year. I highly recommend visiting!

This was a great zoo. We came a little over an hour after it opened on a Saturday. It was busy! But there were plenty of ticketing counters open and customer service representatives to placate the large amount of people. We stood in 2 lines our entire time there. The first was ticketing and the second was the skyride over the African exhibit. $4 one way isn't bad, plus it's a cool little experience. One tip would be if you see a line on the entry side and are doing a 1 way trip, getting the walking out of the way on the front side and jump on the lift for the way back-no line on the far side. The aquarium addition is pretty cool, they even have small hammer head sharks! The zoo is expansive enough to where one could spend the majority of the day visiting all the exhibits and catching a few demonstrations. I definitely rank this zoo at the top with regards to all the other zoos I've been to.

Pack some water if you plan to take the hike down to Africa, if you do it will be worth it! There are a lot of ways to take shortcuts through the zoo: trains, boats, a tram, the sky safari and the carousel... although that last one just took me in a circle. The zoo is absolutely fantastic and I can't wait for the aquarium to be opened. We were able to see most every animal while we were there and got some great photos.

This zoo is Huge! So many amazing critters to see and experience. They have trains, a sky tram, and you can even rent animal scooters to make your way around this behemoth area. There are multiple "wings" of different parts of the world. Immerse yourself in Australia, Africa, and don't forget the new aquarium! Seriously, prepare yourself to be walking all day long if you want to see everything. There are plenty of restaurants and snack stations along the way. A nice kids area right next to the area where you can feed and pet goats! Definitely going to get your steps in if you visit this zoo, and I recommend you do.

One of the best zoos to go to hands down. We were there for 5 hours and still wanted to do more but didn’t realize they closed at 4. Very clean park, great shows, and the stingrays and penguin exhibits were a hit with the adults and kids. Honestly, I don’t know who enjoyed it more because it was such a blast. Cannot wait to return!

What a place. First thing that comes to mind is it's big. You are looking at a minimum of 4-5 hours to see everything... maybe more. The diversity of the exhibits is amazing. The quality of the animal enclosures are so well done and the animals seem very content. There are plenty of opportunities for education, as there are informational boards and interactive moments around every corner. I would recommend the $10 all day pass for the plethora of transportation options to help enjoy the vastness of the zoo. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Also we were allowed to bring in outside food/drink and utilize many of the well placed eating areas inside the park. There were so many memories created for my little one. So many that it will be hard for other zoos to compete. This zoo is a 10/10 Do yourself a favor and fit this zoo into your travel itinerary or your family outing plans. You will have a blast.

We had an amazing time! Since we went on Sunday, not everything was open, but that’s okay! The Staff was all so friendly and informative! That was very appreciated! The Train and Tram operators we very crowd pleasing. I am in a wheelchair and they had the ramp down, ready for me to load up, as soon as they send me headed that way! My biggest complaint, as is with most places like this, the price of a bottle of Water was well over $3 for a 20 oz bottle. There were 19 of us in total, 7 being kids. More affordable would have been nice. There were stations to fill the bottles, but the water was lukewarm, at best. The giant Flowers, and other crafted statues made things look so fun! We, of course, loved all the animals and how clean their habitats were. We’re already planning our trip for after Labor Day next year to be able to go to the new aquarium.

What a fun zoo! A family member told me they'd visited prior and didn't see everything with the time they'd given themselves because there is so much. They suggested I visit earlier in the day and I am so glad I listened. This is definitely a zoo to spend the whole day at! I was impressed with how clean it was despite how many guests were visiting. There were some exhibits with a sign that mentioned some animals might not be in view but we were actually able to see everything (with the exception of the few that were off exhibit). There is a great variety of species and some cool experiences like the stingray touch area and aviaries. We got the unlimited ride passes and it was worth the money. My daughter got to enjoy the carousel and transport rides several times. While there were a lot other guests visiting, we never had to wait in line for rides or transportation. We did spend a good amount of time waiting for Dippin' Dots and to enter the stingray building though. *Be prepared to walk for parking. It fills up fast!

What a fantastic zoo! We travelled over to the UK to visit friends, and on our first day we decided to head here. The zoo is huge, tidy, easy to explore and hosts a variety of animals. Personal favourite exhibits include the African Exhibit which featured giraffes, zebra and different antelope. The elephant enclosure was also huge, allowing plenty of space for the animals. Facilities were all in perfect working order and cleanliness. Prices were good too. Would highly recommend!

The zoo has figured this social distancing thing out! Yes, some of the more closed in exhibits and all of the playgrounds were still closed but my kids and I all had a FABULOUS time and its the first time we have stayed from opening to closing. Many of the animals were very relaxed and curious to see us and my kids lived every second of it. It felt so nice to do something "normal" again.

The zoo was great. We learned the best time to visit is when they open or when they close. The animals are more active during those times. They like to nap during the day. There was beautiful landscaping, beautiful lake, and flowers that smelled amazing. Lots of picnic areas. Great family outing. We also thought it was a great place for a date.

This is one of the best zoo's in the country. We had a great time. There are lots of great animals to see. I promise you will not regret visiting. The price is cheap compared to all there is to do and see. I highly recommend the Kansas City Zoo!!

I always love going to the zoo! It is really cool to me that they have some enclosures set up with natural trees and lots of open space for the animals. The kangaroos being out of an enclosure is also really nice too! I just think there are some places that could use updating and the polar bear definitely needs the changes to come first, that polar bear never looks happy and I really hope something is done to make it better for that animal. Overall, hope to be back soon! Thank you for a great experience at the KC zoo!

We had a very nice visit on a hot Thursday in June. We arrived about lunch time and stayed until 4 pm. It was nice and clean all over. We ate lunch at the tuxedo cafe. It was tasty if a bit expensive. The boat ride is my favorite. The boat leaves at quarter after and quarter until each hour from the closer side. It leaves on the hour and at the half hour from the far side. It's a pontoon and smooth ride. The sky tram is fun and you can see lots of animals that way. The rides pass is worth the cost to help on the hot days. They have added so much in the past ten years and are adding more all the time.

We absolutely LOVE going to this Zoo. It is HUGE. You'll have to make several trips to experience everything! We got to see the Tigers eat and seals do tricks. The new aquarium blew us away! It is such a neat experience. We highly recommend going! They offer free tickets throughout the year for Jackson County residents.

This is such a nice zoo! It’s huge & has a nice flow for guests to see the animals. The new aquarium was super nice as well! We went in the off season on a weekday & there was very little people so it almost felt like a private zoo day! The staff was super friendly & gave directions and knowledge about the animals :)

We love the zoo. We have a membership which is totally worth it for us since I stay home with kids. We go basically whenever it's nice. They do a good job of sanitizing so we feel comfortable rising carousel and train and tram. Kids love all the exhibits, it's spaced out enough we could spend almost all day there. The staff are always friendly and answer all our questions.

We love going to the Kansas City Zoo with our girls. It's always a great experience and I feel like we see something new every time we go. When you hear people tell you to go early, do it! The lines for the Sting Ray Bay are non existent and the zoo as a whole is less crowded. Highly recommend for a fun family day out or even a cute day date with your significant other.

A go to place whenever you’re in Kansas City, MO πŸ’œ spent 3 hours at the zoo, lots of walking so wear appropriate shoes!! you’ll see vending machines everywhere & restrooms. You can also rent a wagon, or a stroller for $8-$10. We enjoyed all the exhibits, only wish their boat ride was open to public and I wish they sell magnets on their shop. πŸ™‚

What a wonderful zoo!!! Be prepared, it's HUGE! You can bring in a cooler or picnic basket. Make sure you have on good walking shoes, and cold water! They have a great deal that will get you unlimited rides on the trains, trams, and the carousel 🎠. It is definitely an all day event! The zoo was clean and well staffed. The animals were well cared for and had awesome enclosures. We look forward to returning, but will definitely go in the months that it is cooler. Overall, it was a very fun and educational trip!

The Kansas City Zoo offers a wide variety of animals to view and interact with. From petting the sting rays to feeding the sheep to informational special animal tours by staff, there is something to be excited about at the zoo for the whole family. There are trams, small trains, and shuttles to get from one section to another. Also the zoo makes animal-themed strollers available if one is needed for further convenience. The animals are well taken care of, the foliage and surrounding stones and structures immerse customers into the full animal habitat environments, and the paths are well marked with signage to keep customers on the full path so that nothing is missed. Each building offers its own signature themes and appeal with artwork, relics, and conversation pieces. The staff are friendly and welcoming which adds to the overall experience. A truly iconic tourist and local venue that the family will enjoy. Ample trees of various species line each path which enhances the beauty and design of the facility and surrounding premises.

The Kansas City Zoo is very large. If you want to see all of it be patient, wear a good pair of shoes, allow at least four hours (that’s moving fast) and strong walking legs. It’s other means of travel from on section to another but it does cost. The animals for the most part have good exhibits but most are far apart from another (as far as sections/countries). I personally have no problem with the zoo as I don’t mind walking and like taking photos but others I’ve been with before have complained. I don’t remember the last time I purchased food or drinks at the zoo so I can’t comment on the prices and the tickets are reasonable. Parking is free. I like the zoo in my opinion.

We were debating should we go to the Zoo because of the aquarium time limit. We decided to go & we enjoyed ourselves, it was hot. The animals were staying cool & weren’t really active. When we made it to the Polar Bear he gave us a show. The Polar Bear made you want to keep on walking in the heat & explore other animals. The aquarium was awesome seeing real live sharks swimming. They had face painting out there for the kids.

The new Aquarium at the Kansas City Zoo is so well done. They have you reserve your day and time to help with crowd control. Your able to see everything. They really did a good job. We had so much fun today. The Zoo has really changed for the better over the years and is really worth going to see if you haven’t been in awhile. It’s a really fun day.

First time back this year and went to see the new aquarium, and wow, they did an amazing job on it!!! The zoo has really come a long way since I was a kid to see all the improvements to it and added extra stuff. Not as much walking to see stuff now it's as you walk. You see something dang near every corner. Really did enjoy the new aquarium, and almost all of the animals were out today. It would for sure be something if you happen to drop into the city to go to. There are tons of areas to see animals and not just one spot and overcrowded. We got the yearly membership and going 2 times pays for the basic as a Jackson County resident, so it is well worth it.

The zoo is always a hit with the kids! It was a little cold (Dec. 28) out, so I would have appreciated a notification at the entrance that only the lions and cheetahs were out in Africa. That was a long walk there, around and back. They really need to restart the sea lion shows again, people can social distance well enough on their own. We enjoyed the camels and the goats, but I didn't have any change to buy animal snacks for them, take a few quarters for each kid. Enjoy all the animals and spending time together!

We took our son for his first zoo trip on 11-19, and had an absolute blast. We used our free trip postcard for myself, my husband, and our 1 year old. Super easy to register for a time and day online, and quick entry with the tickets available right on my phone. The pandemic regulations were completely reasonable and didn't take away from the experience at all. We did notice a lot of features & snack shops were closed, but that could have been due to the time of year as well. Our favorite part was the new polar bear, Nuniq!

One of the best Zoo's I've been to period. Lots of animals and well organized with a fun little train. Times to feed animals as well such as birds or stingrays as well as things to feed camels and such. It's a great time and if you've got the time and the shoes come see it. Word of warning the place is crazy big, don't plan on being able to see everything in one day.

Really cool zoo! We got the $10 wristbands and it was well worth it! Did train, tram, and skylift. Those are amazing itself and then the animals on top makes this a must see zoo! I’m an elephant fanatic and this is a huge, up close elephant exhibit.

Great zoo! I’ve been to almost every major zoo in the US and the KC zoo is definitely up there in terms of variety, quality of enclosures, and clearly their quality of animal care is excellent. If you’re lucky enough to go on a day where the animals are active you’re in for a treat. The zoo does an excellent job of making sure the animals are comfortable at all times which sometimes means you won’t be able to see them, but that is actually how a zoo should be.

One of the best zoos I have seen. Lot of animals from all parts of the world well maintained and well fed. The sea lion show was amazing. There are various animals talk sessions and feeding sessions all over the day. We can feed some friendly cattle. Unfortunately the snake room was closed due to covid when I was there but all the other animals were active. The inclusion of the polar bear is a big advantage for the zoo. It has trams trains zip lines and also a water way. All of them can be included with the higher end ticket.

What a fun zoo! We stopped here on a whim on a Wednesday morning after a concert the previous day, because we figured it would be fairly empty during the middle of the week. Ended up being a great idea, as it wasn't crowded at all, and we even got a couple small tours to ourselves from the friendly and knowledgeable employees. Tons of great animal exhibits, including gorillas, tigers, elephants, and even polar bears. Probably nearly a thousand different animals, if I had to guess. We thought we'd only spend a few hours there, and almost stayed until closing time, as there was so much to see. It's not so big that it's overwhelming, but plenty large enough to get a lot of walking in, and see a ton of exhibits. What amazed me is even though it was a very hot day (in the 90's), almost every animal was active and easy to observe from the viewing areas. Had a great time, and the zoo was very clean as well. Keep up the great work!

Glo Wild was majestic! It was a great way to visit the zoo at night and have a great time with family and friends. The route is not too long for toddlers and they even have hot chocolate/snacks midway through. A great little stop if you are visiting on a cold night. Definitely will be going again if it returns next year!

This weekend, I went to the Zoo to see the wildly anticipated new Aquarium. I made my reservation online, which was very easy to do. It is very nice that the aquarium ticket is included with your zoo ticket since, as of right now, the aquarium has reservations. You have to show up at your time of the reservation, but you can enter the zoo at any time of the day of your ticket; the aquarium is a good size, they have a description of what to look for, and they have staff answering questions along the way, they have bathrooms (all genders and a family one ) inside the aquarium and a little store before exiting the aquarium, definitely worth it, super fun for kids a new activity to enjoy with the family.

Kansas City Zoo and Aquarium is pretty good. Today was our 3rd ever visit. The zoo is very well laid out. It is clean. The animals seem very well cared for. You can spend all day and have a great time. This was our 1st visit to the new aquarium. It was nice. Honestly, much smaller than we expected it to be. Really nice enclosures that were unique to other aquariums. Here's the downside. You really have to go on a weekday, early, during the school year if you want to avoid the crowds. We went today, a Sunday in the afternoon and it was mayhem. People are pretty rude and will just cut in front of you. The aquarium is packed even though it's by reservation only. It's just overall not fun if you go on a weekend or afternoon. My wife and I don't have children and we have been able to go during the week during school hours, and it's so much more enjoyable. You can freely walk the zoo without being trampled by strollers, children and their inattentive parents. Overall, it's a great zoo. You just have to know what you're in for or, go during optimal hours.

I've been to many zoos through the years, but this one is always in my top 3. The exhibits are up close and personal, the staff is always friendly, and the zoo is clean and well-kept. There are lots of opportunities to interact with the animals, and the animals always seem happy, entertained, and well-cared for. My son loves the "endangered level" scale on the signs, and was super excited to see an animal that is extinct in the wild. Lots of baby animals too.

This rating is for the new aquarium. It's a nice addition to the zoo. It takes about an hour to tour and is divided by depth and geography of the oceans. It has a couple touch tanks to feel stingrays, crabs, plants and other creatures. You are under the water at certain points which provides a nice perspective. The fee is part of the overall zoo admission.

I am NOT a zoo kinda person. They have just never been my thing. That said, the folks here did a great job of working around Covid to make it work. My 3 year old really enjoyed seeing so many animals that we've only seen in books. The staff was helpful when we needed assistance, and the folks working the train & trolley did a good job. We witnessed the staff spraying the train and trolley down after passengers exited, and they reminded the public to sport their masks 😷 for safety. There was plenty of reminders for masks when social distance was not available, via signs and ground painting/markers. Heads up, you MUST wear it around the leopard πŸ† area.

Always a fun time at the zoo. I noticed they've been renovating, adding new areas, moving others around, and have made it bigger since my last visit. We were there from opening till closing and didn't even make it across the bridge to the Africa area. I fully recommend the all access bracelets, you'll be able to get on the trains and trams for free, which will make the trip to Africa a lot easier and faster. I can't wait for our next trip to the zoo!

We went to the "Hump Day Happy Hour" while the Zoo was 21+ and it was SPLENDID. Wish they would do this every month. The food and alcohol stands were delicious. The mini donuts were my favorite. Not all the animals were out and about but still super cool!! Love the place even more without kids there. All the adults were just having a good time.

Was a great visit recently. Personnel were friendly. Just sad that a number of things were closed and could not go into birds areas and some others. Not sure if it was time of day or shortage of staff due to govt handouts or what. Not their fault if that is the case! So, I am doing 5 stars instead of 4 because of that. Price to go in is not bad either. IT takes money to keep this all up properly, so I do appreciate it and support it. Animals looked healthy. Some lovely sculptures were around, too. Really great place to spend a few hours or more.

Always something new every time we go. I enjoy the large enclosures for the animals. Makes for a little more walking, but a more natural habitat for the animals. Loved to see the koalas this summer. Sting ray bay is cool. Feeding the lorakeets is fun. Can't wait for the new aquarium in 2023.

My rating is more targeted at Boo πŸ‘» at the Zoo πŸ¦“ for Halloween πŸŽƒ. They did an incredible job putting this on for the kids. Candy stations everywhere, characters including Baby Shark to take pictures with, hands on activities, and of course the animals. I was pretty impressed and so was my son! We had a wonderful visit to the zoo. It was around 50 degrees, so not too bad. Only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because my mom wanted to see the giraffes, the whole reason we went. And it's too cold for them to be outside. They need a sign at the front that says what animals are not available that day for viewing. Or have a inside viewing area like Omaha Zoo

This zoo was amazing! We spent over 5 hours here with our 2 year old and 5 year old. We bought the $10 ride wrist bands. They were so worth it! We rode the train, tram, carousel, and sky lift. This zoo is scenic and spread out. If you want to make the most of your day, take a look at the map and show times and plan a route before you head in! After visiting many other zoos, we can say this one has been our favorite! There are good size viewing areas and great animal visibility over all, simple educational signs and info throughout, and clean facilities!

Nicest zoo I have been to. Love how spread out it is. The penguin exhibit has to be my favorite part. Be prepared to put in a few steps, but it is worthwhile. Buy tickets in advance online, it will expedite the entrance process.

2 hours is Not enough for this zoo. It is Very large. The staff are very helpful. There are So many animals to view and from many different angles. The sky lift was neat and unexpected and the elephants area is especially nice. Highly recommend getting a $10 wristband to get around by train, tram, and sky lift and to ride the carousel.

I loved this place so much!! Everything was a little pricey, but I understand it's for the animals! Very reasonable, just shocking prices. If you want to visit, make sure you have enough money in your credit card!! The workers are nice and very conversational if you talk to them. I had a very great time going through the different countries and riding the lift across Africa!! I recommend visiting this place if you like zoos! They have a polar bear~

It does get busy on holidays and weekends. But there are plenty of places to go. Getting a ride pass is good. You can ride the tram, train, merry go round as many times as needed! Opening new exhibits in 2023! Take a picnic lunch or grab food near the sea lions. Shows and animal chats are great information and fun to learn about. Watching feed the animals.

I could consider knocking off a star seeing as how they are currently undergoing renovations (all new aquarium for the win!) but I understand, so it's all good! We've had a family pass to the Kansas City Zoo off and on over the last decade or so, and we find that it's a great way to just get out of the house and take a stroll. The animals are normally fairly active and seem to be fairly well taken care of. The people who work are always friendly and helpful as well. We'll definitely be back and look forward to the new aquarium site!

Highly recommend! Always a hit no matter what age. Buy the wristband to ride the Tram and air lift to Africa. Love how they let moms in free for Mother's Day. Bring a picnic lunch and eat in kids section. Feed the loralkeets πŸŽ‰πŸ₯°πŸ«Ά

Took the Tram to the Africa exhibit then walked back through the zoo - half the walking and only $2.00 per person. Recommend the Gorilla Chat at 1:30 PM - my favorite part of the zoo. KC Zoo is highly recommended!

Large zoo with some animals I've never seen at other zoos across the country. Plenty to see that you could spend a full day here. It was pretty incredible seeing a polar bear appear content on a hot day. Definitely worth visiting at least once.

Great time for the family! Highly recommend! For the Aquarium, you must reserve a time slot online (no additional cost) or you will not get in it. Do the reservation before the day of your visit! We did the GloWild after and suggest going at 7pm to ensure the sun is down enough. In the pictures you can see the light difference between 6 and 7.

It was fun. I really enjoyed seeing all the animals. I and my wife went on a weekday so it would be less crowded. Also, if you're not a fan of other people's kids, you'll be disappointed. A lot of those kids acted wilder than the animals.

I always love coming here. It’s great to walk around, the exhibits are great, the staff is super helpful, and it’s nice and open. The new aquarium is also beautiful!!! So many cool fish to see and I LOVED the jellyfish exhibit. There were multiple types of jellyfish to stop and admire and watch. Very cool place that I am so excited to come and see again and again.

Thank you for sharing the animals with us! We went the first week of December and had a blast! Lots of stations were closed but we came to see animals and we were not disappointed!! Be sure to bring quarters for souvenir penny making and for food to feed the goats and camels 🐫 We also came back next evening for GloWild and enjoyed that just as much! Dress with warm layers! Like all zoos, there is a ton of walking between exhibits. We loved the Aquarium touch tanks!! A++ experience for our family!

It was fun, there's an area that the kangaroos can just wonder around you. There was quiet a bit open which I was surprised since it was Dec 8, so that was nice. I was upset they didn't have any souvenir cups. We stayed for the lights, that was lots of fun. The food we got at the one restaurant was actually good food so that was nice. The train was having some issues so that was disappointing that we only got to ride it once an we bought the unlimited wrist band. Nothing we can do about that. The sky safari was fun.

This is a great zoo. The best I've ever experienced and I've been to many zoos. Sooooo many animals and you can get really close, much closer than most zoos. The animal habitats are also ideal for the animals. Plan to take at least 4-5 hours if you want to see the whole zoo.

  • 5/5 Tisha H. 3 years ago on Google
I had a great time today with the family i saw a ton of animal in which i was not able to see at other zoos because of the way they have the animal exhibits set up. I will truly never forget this experience. Its very large and its also very very kid friendly with playgrounds and play areas throughout the entire zoo which is so nice for little kids. They also have a part where you can walk threw and there are loose Kangaroos every where its pretty intimidating and awsome at the same time! And theres also a tun of animals you can feed as well. There is a boat you can take and a sky ride you can ride to see the hole zoo as well as a train and a tram!

We always have a very good experience when visiting the Kansas City Zoo! The associates are typically polite and very helpful and the keepers are very knowledgeable, and share that knowledge, on their subject matter. The grounds and habitats are always clean and well kept/maintained. The cost to enter and for the rides, tram, train, skylift, are very reasonable.

One of my favorite places on earth! I grew up near KCZoo and went there at least a couple times a year as a kid. Now I live a bit of a drive away. We get a Friends of the Zoo membership. with a Rides Pass and take the grandkids at least once a month - even during Covid19. Great Memories to be made here.

Very well organized! Staff was amazing and my daughter loved seeing all the animals. We had a 10am reserved time and the entrance had plenty of 6ft social distancing signs and arrows on the ground. Sanitizing stations everywhere and appropriately high contact areas shut down or closed during Covid. I would love to visit again next time we are in KC!

We get zoo passes every year because this is such a fantastic place for the kids. We go probably once a week or so and there is so much to see and do that it doesn't get old. With our pass we have unlimited access to the rides as well so we can enjoy endless trips on the train (my 3 year old loves it!), or ride the skyline or enjoy the carousel. Definitely one of the best attractions this area has to offer.

Love this Zoo! Very interactive not only for kids but adults too. Was able to spend a whole day here and never bored. Discount for locals for tickets. While you do pay to get into the Zoo, many of the extras are free or only a few dollars and parking is free. Many times today employees were out and feeding animals through the day, but also just walking around and talking through different animals with guests. Made it feel like we were able to see the animals on a more personal level.

This zoo is drab and very small compared to other cities zoo's I have visited. The animal enclosures are so small that I feel terrible for the wildlife forced to suffer inside them... They also really should advertise that half of the exhibits are closed before taking advantage of the KC public on the first warm day in weeks!! What a complete and utter waste of time. I walked around for 2 hours and listened to everyone in the zoo complaining about how nothing was open (no restaurants, no boats, no sky safari, no giraffes, gorillas, lorakeets, etc, etc, etc.....) Worst time and money I have ever spent.... I would not recommend this zoo experience to my worst enemy...

Beautiful place, enjoyed the Kangaroos in the wild and the snake in the picture is too cool. Only issue is when you go to visit the Africa Safari it seems like everything cost does fit the theme of the park the way it is set up. It needs modifying so that people can enjoy Africa the right way.

We went on a Saturday for Boo at the Zoo. The zoo was super crowded because this event was on a beautiful fall day. Even with the crowd, there was still a ton of space to move around and several attractions we didn't even get to see because the zoo is a good size. I normally don't care for zoos because most of my life I lived around the tiny, little Topeka zoo where the animals have always seemed sad and listless. The Kansas City Zoo has lots of attractions, animals, space and fun, family things to do. The larger, roaming animals have so much space to move around in and are active and enjoyable to observe because of this. I'm looking forward to the new aquarium that will be there. I will definitely go back and visit again when I have the time to enjoy the entire zoo.

I used to regularly go to the Omaha Zoo (supposedly the best zoo in the country) and like the KC Zoo much better. Animals have plenty of space, don't seem bored, and are closer together so less walking around between animals. We spent a few hours there and basically only saw the "blue" section of the map.

  • 4/5 D L. 2 years ago on Google
This zoo was very nice, clean, and plenty of shade on a hot day. I definitely recommend going when it's not so hot though as the animals are more active and it's very spread out. So all that walking to get to each section of animals would have been much nicer on a cooler day.

MEDIUM SIZED PARK - BIG FEEL! I got the General Admission & Gold Unlimited Rides Voucher that gets you unlimited rides on the African Tram, KC Zoo Railroad, and the Endangered Species Carousel. That wristband was well worth the additional $7 on top of the general admission of $18 (circa late 2021). I used every one of those forms of transportation. The African Tram is a suspension gondola that give you a good view of the park. The KC Zoo Railroad is a small train that runs at surprisingly fast speeds through parts of the park that include a dark tunnel that runs a good length. The staff and guides were funny, friendly, and informative. I had a great time at this zoo. Suggestions: (1) Get the Rides Pass (2) Ride the Tram, Train & Boat (3) Visit the Sand Cats PARKING: Plenty of parking at the front entrance. Getting there early is always a good idea.

My family loves the zoo. We get an annual Fotz membership, and it’s worth every penny. We often go in the mornings as it opens and we stay for 3-4 hours. The best part about the membership is that you can go for a couple of hours every while and not worry about seeing everything and the rides such as trolley, train, boat and skyline are included. My kids are 3 and 2 and love the penguins. Every time we go, it seems like we see something new.

  • 5/5 Sean G. 2 years ago on Google
Absolutely great zoo, worth the money. Layout is relatively straight forward, easy to see everything in one go. Animal habitats provide great opportunities for photos and for kids to see. There is a wristband for 11 bucks that lets you ride all of the park rides and I believe that is worth it too. We paid 11 dollars a person to get in, but that was with us already having a membership to a separate zoo that is on a reciprocity agreement with Kansas City zoo (I think the regular price is 22?).

  • 4/5 Tiffany A. 1 year ago on Google
We are members and absolutely love this zoo. A great variety of animals set in really attractive landscapes. The food used to be better as they seem to have cut down on their menus since the pandemic (what happened to the BBQ place?!?!). There is a lot of walking so dress for it. Even if you think your kiddos are getting too old for a stroller, bring one anyway. The bird show is so much fun and worth seeing. My kids (ages 3 and 7) absolutely love it!

Wonderful School Trip. Great Zoo. Very Interactive & Educational Opportunities. We only spent 4 hours which was perfect. The kids loved the whole zoo, but the highlight for them was the stingrays. My only knock about the zoo was the extremely overpriced food. A small slice of pizza was $7.00 which is crazy. Overall this is a great zoo.

  • 5/5 Jason L. 1 year ago on Google
This place is huge!!! While pushing a stroller it took 5 hours to walk the entire park without any breaks. Be prepared there is a hill when leaving Africa but they do have trams you can ride also it has a trailer for your strollers and wagons. More attractions are being built that will open in 2023 so we are very excited to come back next year. Also a side note to all the staff that we encountered today were extremely friendly and professional. See you next year KC Zoo

What a fun day at zoo with my baby boy and his classmates! School asked us to be there at 9:00 am and glad it was early. This is definitely a zoo to spend the whole day at! I was impressed with how clean it was despite how many children were visiting. There were some exhibits with a sign that mentioned some animals might not be in view but we were actually able to see everything (with the exception of the few that were off exhibit). There is a great variety of species and some cool experiences like the stingray touch area and aviaries. We went to AFRICA the boys special exhibit. They are alway excited for the lions, however it would be nice if they add a male lion. Lots of areas to cold off! *Be prepared to walk for parking. It fills up fast!

We loved our trip to the zoo! Friday morning was full of field trip crowds, but it didn’t feel too crowded for the most part. We love that you can take your own food, snacks, and drinks. We had a 2 year old and he LOVED the team ride to Africa, so cheap and stroller friendly, (you don’t even have to fold it up). We saw lots of animals up close!

Very cool zoo with lots to see, with a huge aquarium/sea exhibit coming on 09/01/23 that cost hundreds of millions. Very excited to see that. Only complaint is the lake of drinking stations or vending machines. Also the ferry ride to get to one side of the park to the other closed down wile we were on the far side, and it was still running. We spent about 30 minutes lost with no help as there are lack of signs. Suggestion: paint sidewalks to where you need to leave the place.

We love to visit zoos in every city we visit. This zoo is incredible! We bought tickets online ( cheaper and faster), there are clean bathrooms throughout the zoo. A magnificent Penguin exhibit was our first location to visit. Even though parking lots were full ( free parking) it never seemed crowded. We never saw an empty enclosure....all the animals were out to be seen. Very shady pathways and benches to rest. We brought bottled waters in with us ( food and drink allowed). Lots of things to do with children: train, tram, sky ride, merry go round. We travelled with our grown boys so we just walked everywhere.

It's best to pack a lunch and some waters especially in the summer heat but money spent at the Zoo is also money being spent on our zoo's upkeep and to multiple causes they help protect and care for our zoo's animals... So splurging on ice cream, nachos , burgers or whatever your child's heart desires are good dollars spent. I would advise everyone to pay the $12 to ride the multiple modes of transportation offered by the Zoo as this allows you to ride the African Skyline, Tram, Train, Boat and the Carousel how ever many times you would like or you can buy individual tickets for each ride. Wear comfortable clothes and shoes and be ready to get a workout in! We went on a weekday this time around and as before it's the best to me, arriving early allows you to beat the sun, the crowds of people AND see most of the animals. If you want to see the entire Zoo I would also advise an early start and plan to spend the day !!

The Kansas City is always fun! I prefer to go in the fall and spring but with kiddos I end up going year round. We always visit the stingray area. It is so worth it to rub them. Their protective barrier is so soft. The zoo has a new alligator area. It’s tough to see the alligators but they are there. The penguin pool area is also one of our favorites. We enjoy feeding the camels but my daughter refuses to feed the goats so we usually walk quickly through that area. One of my favorite places is the Elephant exhibitions area. They are such gorgeous creatures. I do wish there were more food and drink options throughout the zoo with places to sit and eat and not just near the entrance. You can always find us here

The zoo is always a great time for families! Lots to see and lots of little things for the kids to enjoy. A couple playgrounds and several indoor exhibits. We like to go year around if the weather permits. Would recommend getting a membership! Your own coolers/snacks/water/etc are allowed.

First time visiting the Kansas city zoo, it's great exercise with the large park layout. Loved seeing the penguin exhibit, it was nice and cold inside. Now the concessions leave more to be desired, pretzel tasted like a microwave one you get at the store. But it was a nice experience.

It’s a good zoo. It has a train with a really fun tunnel, along with a carousel (but it doesn’t play any music which we felt was weird), both are three dollars a ride with 2 and under free with an adult who needs a ticket. They do have family bathrooms so that both mom or dad can change babies. It was HOT at 98 degrees the day we went and the hard part was not having much shade at all on the walking paths. Other zoos we have been to do such a good job with that and I really felt like this is what the zoo was missing. Thankfully they do have a lot of indoor things like stingrays and tropical and penguins to help cool off. I did see one water bottle fill up place I would guess there are more…. But I wanted one and hoped it would show itself and I never found it.

My family loves visiting the zoo. We were glad that we made it just in time for the bird feeding. The kids loved it. Definitely would recommend good walking shoes or a little extra money for the train.

I had such a great time, my boyfriend took me to see the elephants as a mid day date. ❀️ I love elephants. The park wasn't crowded, we got to see everything we wanted to. No lines but every employee we came across had a smile on their face and was so helpful, courteous, kind which made the day even more wonderful.

I've been to zoos All Over America and I don't know why Kansas City does not Place higher on the list of best zoos. The animals are very active here. The exhibits are large. The aquarium is amazing and the penguin exhibit is extraordinary. Polar bear puts on an amazing show. Its a phenomenal zoo!

All the new additions added on top of the Aquarium puts the KC Zoo near the too of any zoo Ive ever visited. Very spacious and kid friendly. Lots of time live informational events at different animal displays throughout operating hours. I highly recommend the KC Zoo.

Great zoo! Really large! Bring drinks and snacks and plan at least 3-4 hours to see all the animals! The platinum wrist band for the sky ride, shuttle, boat, and train (plus carousel) is totally worth it! We had great day!

I planned a girls weekend with my daughter and granddaughter. This was part of our adventures for the weekend. I had not been to the zoo in many years and was pleasantly surprised to see all the improvements they’ve made. The aquarium was really nice, although I did expect it to be a little bit bigger. The enclosures were well kept, and the animals seemed well cared for. The only drawback was, we went on a Saturday and the crowds were excessive. Very hard to get close to the animals or the exhibits with so many people pushing and shoving. It is quite a long walk to the African area and we ended up taking so much time there that we did not really have enough time to visit the rest of the zoo. So we plan to make a return trip so that we can see the parts we did not get to see. Overall, it’s a very nice zoo and well worth the time to visit. Although I do not recommend the funnel cakes near the front entrance. Definitely not worth the money as they are frozen and not fresh made.

GloWiWAld is happening from now until Dec 30. Lots of displays that light up in the dark, but are just as cool during the day. They offer trains, trams, boat, and chair lift to see the zoo with a wristband that's $12 for all or $3 for train, $2 for tram. Can't remember price for others. We only did the train and tram and it was nice to not have to walk the whole zoo which is huge. Plan a day for this trip. Food is expensive so I recommend bringing your own picnic. I wish we had done that. (Look into what's allowed 'cause like I said we didn't bring our own but did see others with homemade sandwiches and chips and other snacks). Very nice zoo. πŸ‘Œ
