A must see museum in Kansas City area. The ground floor of the museum tells the story of the Long family. This was their home from 1914 to 1932. Long family was the titans of the lumber industry from western Missouri to Longview, WA. The second floor is all about Kansas City history and third floor is art exhibition. There are free street parking around the museum and the admission is free.

Very nice museum and history of Kansas City. The house is in excellent condition after the renovation. All of the spaces were in pristine condition. Our favorite part was in the basement. They have a game room set up for people to use. There's pool, Chinese checkers, checkers, tic tac toe, and chess. We had a great time exploring and learning about KC. We want to come back next year when the restaurant is open.

A perfect size museum for me bezza it's easy to get through it with out a full day commitment. If you are like the princess and want to read everything I guess you might spent a few days here but it's not necessary to enjoy this venue. Recently restored the Kansas City museum is quite beautiful and a special place to be sure and visit when you can. Although not completely finished the recent renovation is fantastic as an attempt has been made to bring it back to original grandeur. The section devoted the Kansas City history was the most interesting for me. Donations are requested at the door and although appreciated not required as admission as well as the parking are free.

Newly restored national historic home! KC and Missouri history are well depicted and the exhibits are spectacular. Stairs or elevators access the entry and interior. 2nd floor KC history was my favorite as were the advances of medicines and medical instruments. Great history lesson and field trip for kids and adults. Homes nearby equally impressive.

The grounds of this museum are so beautiful. We spent half of our time there walking and basking in the sun. The museum itself is grand. Walking up to it is an experience all on its own. The interior is laid out in some modern spaces and some traditional. Very amusing on every level. The surrounding area offers many great places to stay and enjoy. Whole family had a great time

Beautifully restored, cool location, amazing view. The main floor exhibits are more about the family and life in the house, while upstairs has a range of things about pop and historical Kansas city. The downstairs billiard room is all modern decor instead of how the Long family had it. There's also a lot of potential for cool balcony seating. Definitely worth checking out.

This is one of my favorite places in Northeast it is absolutely in the landmark category we are so blessed that it is been refurbished and Brought back to life. Take your family here to enjoy the history and pack a picnic to walk across the street and look over the beautiful view of the rail yards in the river

The story of the “New” Kansas City Museum begins as you might imagine, with the Old - the neighborhood, the building itself, and the history of its occupants is intriguing enough not to mention the fascinating artifacts and delicately-curated stories now housed with its walls (and even more inventory carefully sequestered in caves waiting to be cycled in). After falling into disrepair and lying fallow for two decades, a massive fundraising and philanthropic effort starting in 2014 would eventually culminate in the museum you see today. A friend and I are old college buddies with one of the museum Board members (Shomari Benton) who encouraged us to stop by the first day the new museum was open to the public, shortly after the ribbon-cutting earlier that day. We met the dynamic Executive Director Anna Marie Tutera (who we heard grew up in a home across the street from the old museum property), and were greeted hospitably by Paul Gutiérrez, Director of Visitor Experience & Public Programming. As we moved floor to floor, room to room throughout the space, several high points come to mind: - Quality: the presentation, design, and execution of all the exhibits feels top-shelf, echoing the same experience you receive at other A-list museums around the world, but in a manner appropriate and comfortable in the space itself, the historic home of Kansas City’s famous Lumber Baron, Robert Long. - Breadth: exhibits are both allocated by era as well as in one case geography, where a different Kansas City borough will be updated regularly. - Relevance: both the documented history of bygone times via photo and object as well as the faces and stories of current living community influencers are represented in the museum, making it not just a place to learn from the past but celebrate and empower those making tangible impacts on the history of today, and tomorrow. Overall, we were lucky to be some of the first of many guests at this wonderfully-restored Kansas City landmark, and I was personally impressed by the hard work and dedication of the Board and Staff that made it happen. Congratulations to the staff, and to those considering a visit - the question is not about visiting or not, but moreso about when and how regularly. You won’t regret it!

It has been years since visiting the Museum! Wonderful restoration! Beautifully renovated with modern & local history combined. My wife & I finished our visit with Strawberry Soda & ice cream at the downstairs cafe.

Very cool! This is gonna be even better when they get the Cafe and soda fountain working, exquisite rooms on the first floor. Exhibits on the upper two. Great views of the city from the 3rd floor. My personal favorite exhibit details the demographics and history of the northeast neighborhoods.

I went to the newly renovated museum today and it exceeded my expectations. The mansion built in 1910 has been tastefully preserved, with the addition of wonderful displays that transport you back in time. I spent about an hour and a half learning more about my city. I can’t wait to take my wife to see it. The museum is free, but I made a nice donation.

Great spot to spend a few hours learning about KC. I've lived here a couple of years and was waiting for it to open back up to visit. Very clean and organized. There are 4 levels so plenty to see for a couple of hours. Not the most kid friendly museum with lack of "involved" exhibits FYI.

Great experience. The mansion which is now the museum is stunning. The exhibits are great. People who worked there were eager to answer questions. And NE KCMO is such a unique area.

It's a really cool place! Interesting to see how the people lived when this was a residence and great information about the history of Kansas City.

@kansascitymuseum is a beautiful and informative way to spend an afternoon. The first floor is all about the Long family who owned and built the home, the second floor is all KC history, the third floor is an art exhibition floor, and the basement has a billiard room (where you can play pool) & a future soda fountain shop. Once the cafe and soda fountain shop are open this will be a place that you can truly spend a full day exploring all about KC. Also plan time to walk around the neighborhood, there are some beautiful homes to look at.

Magnificent old mansion built 1909, I think, by R.A. Long. Of Longview farm fame. There is a documentary about Mr. Long and his family. Only 27 minutes long, I recommend watching it. Very interesting displays to look at. More of a history of Kansas City, not just about the Longs. The house is really worth seeing. I will add a pic of art glass window on main stairs.

Learned many new things pertaining to Kansas Cities history. I did reminisce and miss the way it once was. However with the new old fashioned soda and ice cream parlor below that now serves alcohol and provides a billiards 🎱 room to enjoy in some game's while enjoying the entirety of it all. Great date idea!

The artifact and art display esp the European Art are amazing! Bring your lunch with you though.. the cafe serves only coffee and the restaurant offered an extremely limited menu and barely edible food. We were here during the Lunar celebration. Huge crowd but not much choices to eat. The restaurant offered what i think is supposed to be Asian food. But God! The chefs need an education on what Asian food taste and look like!. We did not come here for the food but if anything should be improved..it is the cafe and food choices. Love the art and the whole ambience though.

Beautifully restored mansion that offers a great presentation upstairs of Kansas City's heritage and history. The ground floor and basement offer a wonderful exhibit of what the home originally looked like. Very impressive.

Saw a live jazz band right on the porch of the kc museum during sunset hour. Took a stroll around the place and was amazed by the scenery. What beautiful building!

Day of the Dead was a beautiful event so well organized by the KC museum. There was great food and nice Mexican hot chocolate and aguas frescas. The vendors had fun and original art and the performers and altar were lovely!
