The food was excellent and the decor is neat. Definitely feels like a somewhat upscale but casual location. The menu is unique and the food we had was great, so we are compelled to come back to try more. I had the ox tails as my main course and it was great.

Amazing! Black owned and on the Eat Okra app. Amazing Hibiscus mojito. Dinner was delicious. Their Jerk Sauce was yummy. Just go. Just forewarn. They are slow. Good service but slower than your usual restaurant.

Incredible food. The seafood paella literally made me cry it was so good. Cozy, intimate atmosphere. Great vibe, better food. We will be back!

I was craving paella! And theirs is amazing! The seafood, the rice, the veggies, the heat, it's perfect. Definitely satisfied the craving. Can't wait to go back and try their ox tails. Very chill vibe in the restaurant as well. Definitely eating in next time. Loved it.

My cousin and his wife, along with my hubby and myself, really enjoyed the atmosphere and food at this Ethiopian Restaurant. They had a nice variety on their menu. We started off with appetizers - the oan seared crab cakes with a spicy sauce and the delicious parmesan fritters made from taro root! These were my favorites! For the main course, my hubby and I both ordered the braised oxtails, which were over a small bed of collard greens, green peas, a piece of of a carrot, and potato. My twob oxtails, although large and flavorful, were not as tender as they needed to be. We both opted for white rice (which came a little later) instead of the black mushroom rice since I am allergic to some types of mushrooms. I will say the sauce was ample and therefore make the rice taste so good! My cousin got the Jerk Ribs with parmasan fries with a spicy sauce and coleslaw. His wife ordered a seafood jambalaya. They both enjoyed their meals as well. We didn't order drinks, but the ones we saw looked really good. They have a very nice bar area! I would come back again!

beautifully decorated restaurant in an unassuming midtown location. the food was superbly prepared and was delicious. we all tried different items and shared. The plantain appetizer was totally awesome. Savory and the cilantro pesto was delightful. the shrimp curry was just the right amount of spices and so tasty the baked chicken and veggies was so flavorful. The service was a bit poor. but the Manager or Owner was amazing.

Ethiopian and Caribbean!! I chose the Ethiopian side on this occasion. It was so good I’m compelled to turn and try the Caribbean side next. Choosing the “sampler”, I got a taste of it all and it was all flavorful, good portions and just good. Yep, I couldn’t finish it but they offer to-go boxes. The presentation was nice; you could eat everything. The waitress was helpful in sharing the history of the restaurant and recommending meals. The ambiance was nice on a Thursday evening—personal and relaxing so you could enjoy the meal. I recommend it!

Pros- The food was delicious, the drinks were top tier. Cons- Coming during restaurant week, & coming with a large party. All in and all it was a good experience. I want to come back again on a date and not with a large group.

Wow. This restaurant is probably one of the best restaurants I’ve been to in Kansas City. The food was absolutely delightful and the service was definitely amazing. All of the staff was nice and friendly along with the owner. We will definitely be going back and hope to have the same, or close to the same experience again! Thank you! Absolutely 10/10 would recommend.

We are returning customers from when Mesob was in the building that has now been renovated across the street. Last minute decided for Mother’s Day Brunch here. The buffet is not their typical layout but everything was beautifully crafted from even the table settings when we were seated to having someone making fresh pasta right in front of you and the option to selected what is in your dish. Loved all the traditional dishes, remember to go taste something nee with an open mind and taste buds prepared. So much color and flavor in everything you try. The staff are so friendly and hardworking. We will be returning for plantains and wings in the near future! Highly highly recommend.

Delicious!!! Some of the best Ethiopian food I've had, and I try to find Ethiopian food whenever I'm traveling. The space looks great and can accommodate larger groups. Can't wait to return to try the rest of the menu!

The atmosphere and the music are really great Lana was an excellent server. She made a very good flight recommendations. We all have different Tibbs. I think it’s like what I see and steak dishes that were spectacular. Highly recommend the cabbage and potato side.

I was very excited to dine here considering all the awards the chef has won, and amazing looking menu options. We arrived at our reservation time and were promptly seated. However, it took quite a long time for our server to come to our table. I had to flag her down. They were very busy (Sunday night) and seemed to only have 3 wait staff for the entire restaurant. She took our order and our drinks arrived a while later. We were getting worried about the time, as we had a concert to attend. The appetizer and entrees came out within 5 minutes of each other. So while we were able to eat quickly, it was kind of a whirlwind situation. It was like a hurry up and wait then hurry up and eat. Lucky we did make it to the concert on time since the meal was served promptly. The waiter apologized for the slow service, and was very kind overall. I will for sure be going back as the meal was Delicious! We tried the Caribbean menu: Fritters, Veg Jambalaya and Surf Duo. I'm excited to try the Ethiopian menu next time. Just a warning to possibly plan on a nice, relaxing and not rushed meal experience.

Poor service with good food. I'll headline it with this - my wife and I got 1 cocktail each, 1 appetizer each, and 1 entree to split. At the end, it cost about $110 including tax, tip and whatnot. Fine. Good dinner is expensive, especially now. However, our chief complaint was not with the food, which was worth it, for the most part. Our problem was the service, or lack thereof. You are probably going to get better service at an Applebee's. Why do I say this? We made a reservation for 7:30. We showed up at 7:25 to a large line. We thought "Maybe these people have reservations as well?" So we stood there. 15 minutes later not a single restaurant employee had talked to us. So I ventured to the bar. I talked to a bar tender and alerted her to the fact that we had reservations and that no one had talked to us. She made one of the wait staff aware but otherwise nothing happened. I would like to point out that at this time, although the wait area was overflowing with patrons, the tables were perhaps half full at most. After about ten more minutes we finally got seated. So for our 7:30 reservation we were seated at about 8. Service was good but very slow and our server passed our table several times while we were trying to flag her down. Overall, food was good and drinks were good. But next time we want to spend over $100 on dinner for 2 in Kansas City we will definitely not be coming back to this over-hyped restaurant.

Starting with the good: the food was extremely good. Unique and well executed. To the not so good: Every restaurant has its bad nights as far as service and i hope we were experiencing that rare occasion while at Mesob. Food and drinks were very slow to come to the table. The server said she would being appetizer plates but never did before we just finished the appetizer. Our drinks took 30 minutes to arrive. Another table's plate was brought to our table before they realized it was a mistake and brought it to the correct table. We waited a long time for our checks and asked for to go boxes but never got them. We were a table of 4. Our reservation was at 7:00 and we didn't leave until 9:40. Hopefully they were just having a bad night. We would love to see them succeed because again, the food was delicious.

This is a really nice place in midtown for a date night or special occasion or even just for drinks. Great spice level, delicious cocktails and Eden gave us perfect service. We're looking forward to going back and trying the rest of the menu.

Went during restaurant week. We along with a group of other people with reservations stood at the door for a while without being greeted. Restuarant was pretty packed and service was extremely slow. Once we were at our table the waitress was apologetic and very nice. Appetizers did not come for 45 min. Salad and meal came at the same time. Food was not bad. I really liked the crab cakes. Drink was pricey but good.

We had the Ethiopian combination platter (we shared)- can't remember the exact name. A little under $50. The waitress was attentive though didn't explain extra charges for the spicy seasoning put on the side so I could have it and my wife didn't have to. It was an interesting experience. The Ethiopian cuisine was not really my type of food. But it was fun. They also have Jamaican food. They could have spent some money on the carpentry on the place; it felt low rent with prices that were not.

This place is an amazing hidden gem. The food is different but good. The flavors are very interesting and leave you wanting more. I literally want to taste everything on the menu. This is the true intent of restaurant week, to expose those of us that love food but would otherwise not know what we're missing. Mesob, I was happy to dine with you, keep up the good work!!

I can only post one photo of the amazing mushroom rice because I devoured my oxtail like my life depended on it. The food was inspired. Whoever cooked those collards knew exactly what they were doing. I will come down from Omaha again just to eat dinner here.

Wonderful experience for a hole in the wall. Romantic, warm and cozy place to take your wife on datenight or even just a guys night out either way the food was flavored for perfection especially if you order the salmon awaze tibs with a side of cabbage and potatoes, with yellow lentils and make sure you tell the waitress you want it spicy if that’s how you like it nevertheless the chef shall make it to your special desire. You will not be disappointed. The fried plaintains with guacamole was also delicious and very creamy just how I make it back home. But the dish I liked most of all was the jerk shrimp appetizer because I crave jerk literally all the time lol and to top it off with a drink I chose the rum punch. It was sweet but still had a great kick well priced and well deserved for someone who has had a long day and would like to unwind! Will definitely make this a go to spot in the future when I visit KC

First time dining here and loved it! From the appetizers to the main course, everything exceeded my expectations. Tried the Beef Tibbs and Vegetarian Jambalaya and want to return again to try more on the menu. If you are into rum, you will definitely like the offerings. Last but not least, the atmosphere and the service were outstanding. Looking forward to going back.

Very nice restaurant. The inside was clean and friendly. The bar was huge and plentiful. My server was awesome as well. I wish I could remember her name. Our drinks were super pleasing. 👌🏽 I have never seen a bar with such a wide variety of Rum outside of Florida. The jerk ribs are a must try. The menu is full of choices. I'll be going back soon.
