Jess and Jim's has been around a long time. What's their secret to such long term success? Great food in a casual atmosphere. Better quality steaks than in one of those stuffy, formal, expensive steakhouses and at more affordable prices. Portions are generous. Huge baked taters. Enormous cow on the roof of the same place they've been cooking in for all these years. They're right by the train tracks, so the occasional locomotive will shake the floor as you dine. Adds to the experience in a good way. There are a number of fun drinking establishments nearby. So you can really make a night of it. I recommend getting there early to avoid the inevitable long wait times. If a joint is busy every day it should tell you something.

Best steak I've ever had!!! We received a gift card for Christmas to Jess & Jim's and finally tried it out last weekend. It was a Saturday evening so my husband called ahead and made reservations which worked out. We got there at about 6pm it wasn't really packed when we got there but within 10-15 minutes of us sitting down there definitely was a wait so I'm glad he called! Our server was very nice and helpful. She brought beets out..didn't try them. We ordered the appetizer sampler that came with fried Mac n cheese bites, buffalo chicken wings, and onion rings. The appetizers were my least favorite part of our visit. The wings were small and tasted like the frozen bag from Tyson or something (if not worse..banquet?). The Mac n cheese bites were okay, not really anything exciting. The onion rings were pretty good. The actual dinner is the most important part! I ordered the 16oz sirloin, twice baked potato and salad. My goodness! The steak was soooo good, I asked for it to be medium well and it was perfect. The salad was very fresh and a nice size. The potato was huge and yummy, I think they used Irish cream butter. My husband had the steak burger and it was huge! He never has leftovers but he definitely did on this night! We did have drinks as well which were strong & good! Heated my left overs the next day and my daughter tried the steak & potatoes. She thought the steak was so good and asked to come here on her birthday (she's 11 lol) We will definitely be back and I'll be enjoying another steak for sure!

Had a family gathering dinner of 10 adults, all from out of town. VERY happy with the service and food. We had the Frog Legs, deep fried mushrooms and another appetizer - ALL GREAT!. Soft drinks and 10 meals (including 8 steaks). Including the 20% tip, our total bill was just over $550. Glad we found this place, based on a locals recommendation. Would return and try more of their offerings.

We both had the 10 ounce steak, a baked potato, and a salad. I had so much that I have leftovers for tomorrow. Good tasting, well cooked to order steak. The atmosphere is conducive to talking with your companions, co-workers or loved ones. Lit just enough but not Too bright. We went for a walk after dinner and found 3 Christmas trees still lit and as beautiful as on Christmas. Might say Winter glow trees, 2024.

What a great steak house! The atmosphere is romantic and rustic. The steaks are superb 👌. The filet just melted in your mouth and the twice baked potato is HUGE you could share it. We will be back for sure.

My wife and I found this place on accident and I’m glad we did. We’ve been here 3 times and we both only had the hamburgers so I can’t comment on any other food items. If you ever see the movie Good Burger, these burgers remind me of the Mondo Burger but actually taste very very good. I have a decent/big size hand and this is just as big as my hand. My wife had to cut hers in half to eat it. I didn’t have to but would of been better to. I don’t remember the price but honestly, it wasn’t that expensive compared to the amount of food you get. Highly recommended if you want a large burger.

A group of 6 of us tourists decided to take an Uber to this restaurant that was recommended to us & it didn't disappoint! From the moment we walked in we were promptly greeted & seated. I had the 14 oz KC strip and it was very tender. We also split an appetizer. The highlight of the meal was our server Rebecca. She was so patient and kind and all of her food recommendations were on point.

Best steakhouse I've been to in awhile. Took me my whole life to realize I like my steak rare. Best carrot cake I've ever had and I love the pickled beets too; you have to try them! And you definitely should get the baked potato! We loved our server Amanda and her best friend Jenny. Wonderful experience and we will be back.

Great food and live music at a Kansas City Institution. My wife and I visited again after 19 years when we were boyfriend and girlfriend. Living further away makes it a little more challenging to visit when we want. This restaurant was our first quote nice restaurant. Visiting again was even better than the first time. The atmosphere is great, with plenty of Kansas City memorabilia. It feels like a classic Midwest Steakhouse. You'll have dining options of sitting in the lounge or the den. We chose the lounge because of the live music. There is also bar seating. The service, from speaking with the host to our waitress, was excellent. Very attentive and kept us constantly updated on the status of our courses. The steaks were cooked perfectly, and the sides were delicious and enormous. You will not leave hungry. The homemade garlic bread is delicious. The Very Berry lemonade is also pretty refreshing. The live music capped off the excellent experience at this restaurant. If you don't venture out to Martin City much, don't forget to add this place to your list of places to visit. 135th Street is not too far, and the neighborhood is excellent.

Cool spot, nice atmosphere. Came in at a fairly slow time, sat at the bar…but service was really subpar. Steak was a bit overcooked and just not very tender for the price. Overall, it’s “okay not great” and today’s service really missed the mark (cool artsy photo of my empty beer because it sat there for so long).

Wonderful rustic/classic atmosphere. I had the filet mignon and it was cooked to perfect temperature! Service was a bit slow but they were very accommodating.

I went here for my birthday and it was a good choice. I got the playboy strip, medium. It was massive and delicious too. Served with it was their twice baked potato which was also very flavorful. The meal also came with a vegetable of which I had the steamed broccoli. It was good but nothing special. Lastly it came with two pieces of toast that were not that great but not really what you come to a steak restaurant for so it isn't that big of a deal. I was also surprised when the server gave me a delicious slice of what I believe was chocolate cheesecake but I wasn't able to confirm. Still very very good. Overall the experience was well worth the visit. I suggest if you're looking for a nice old timey sit down steak restaurant you can't go wrong here.

I’ve been here before great service great food! We were really impressed. However we came in for a quick late dinner. From the start I was disappointed, we got sat in the middle of the room where they put children so we were surrounded by 2 large tables of screaming kids.. honestly for the price of the place a tiny little filet should not be served off of a plastic plate, and fries in a basket.. honestly should have just gone to a chain restaurant like long horn… cheaper food and more food and it’s plated better. They would probably have treated us better if we were older.

It's 4.5 stars as I never give a 5 star unless it's perfect. We save Jess amd Jim's for special occasions and a "treat". The last time we went was over 2 years ago when we found out we were expecting our first child and celebrating a new job. This time we decided impromptu that we were going to take our now two children and go celebrate valentines day. On this trip it was very very busy. Many teens near our table for a dance of some kind. Our service was great, our food was good. Only complaint we could have made was our uneven cook on my husband's steak. It was a t bone, rare on one side medium on the other and had a lot of grissel in one spot. But like we both said it was still great. Will always go back.

Best stake house, for stake, has a comfortable dining area. Friendly crowd. I would recommend it. Good quality beef, goes without saying, it's costly. But the food is worth it. It's an older restaurant, there seems to be some damage to the roof in the dining area. It's not much, but just a sign of our times and the economy we are in.

Old-fashioned steakhouse known for having great steak and shrimp meals. I decided to go with shrimp and was pleased. I tried my husband's ribeye steak, but honestly, it was nothing special. They do know how to serve a twice-baked potato --- Yum! We enjoyed having plenty of space to ourselves to visit with some family and could stay as long as we wanted to.... The whole restaurant was pretty slow on a Sunday. I'm glad we got to try this KC favorite, but I probably won't feel the need to come back. Service was good, even though our waitress couldn't wait for us to finish our meal so she could leave early. It's one thing for you to know that you're going to leave soon, but don't tell your customers that. No one followed up on us after she left though. Decor could use some updating and the bathrooms had a funky aroma to them.... Not that aroma either! Parking was plentiful, which is always a nice find. The rail line is literally right next to the restaurant.

Delicious. Very pleasantly surprised. Steak is perfect, arrives at table hot and sizzling. Salad fresh and free from lettuce heart parts 🙏 Baked potatoes the size of a small child!! Wait staff are super attentive, yet not hovering. Quiet and calm atmosphere. They do offer dessert, I didn't see it on the menu - however, not needed. You will leave here in a satiated, full and blissful state.

I got the frog legs and they were AMAZING! I'm in from outta town so I got them to go...plenty of lemons & tartar sauce! Also got the twice baked potato as a side & it was cooked to perfection & loaded for sure! I'll definitely be back! Amanda is fantastic!

hands down the best steak in town! We come here every year for my birthday. They bring you a special treat. The atmosphere is calm and you can have a real conversation unlike other steakhouses in the area. If you love pickled beets... you must try their version! We have been fans of this steakhouse for almost 24 years. The service is always as amazing as the food!
