I love this place so much! Authentic cuisine, delicious, and consistent. Do yourself a favor and get the Spicy Crispy Chicken Kin Lin style from the traditional menu. Staff are amazing too!

It all depends on who is cooking in the kitchen. I've had terrific food here---on par with the best in KC, and other times the food tastes like fast food Chinese. I wish they would be more consistent, but I still go and hope the good chef is cooking. Next time the food is good, I'm going to ask who is in the kitchen, and remember to call first next time and ask. The setting is way casual, it is family owned and it is reasonable price-wise.

Good place to grab some Chinese... I was very impressed with the server. She was very knowledgeable with all the menu items. Will likely be back if I'm back in that area.

This place had been on my list for quite a while after I was told the authentic menu was really great. We made the mistake of going at lunch which was only the limited menu. I got kung pao tofu and my spouse got general tao's chicken. The chicken was pretty good, with a sauce that wasn't overly sweet. My tofu was cool and soggy with raw cool vegetables with warm sauce. We also had our rice mixed up, but honestly the steamed rice was better than the fried. I couldn't really complain about it because there was only one server working, so we didn't see her at all between when the plates were dropped off and the check dropped off. While the authentic menu might be better I'm not going to drive 20 minutes again to give it a shot. Oh, and my fortune cookie didn't have a fortune lol. I guess it was a sign.

I was looking for Szechuan boiled fish (on their menu , "Szechuan Fish with Hot Chili Oil" or 水煮鱼) and they're one of few places in KCMO where I could find it. it was easy to place an online order and pickup. My food was well packaged, which is critical with a colourful oily soupy dish! I also got the Cumin Tofu Skewers and Bean Curd & Vegetable Soup (free with order minimum). It's been about ten years since I had 水煮鱼 and it did not disappoint. I also really enjoyed the tofu skewers and the soup. I will be back soon.

The waiter is very friendly and knowledgeable about food on menu. The hot and sour soup was pretty good. Spicy chicken we ordered was alright, I didn’t find it spicy. The hot & spicy chicken wings were very crispy but too greasy and I thought they were overcooked.

KIN LIN is my favorite Chinese restaurant in town! It specialized in authentic Hunan style Chinese food. Decent atmosphere and decor. Service is good as well. Please stay open for years😊.

I've been ordering from Kin Lin for about 3-4 years. Today is the last time I will order from them. Placed an online order for carry out for the Sesame Chicken and Crab Rangoon. The chicken was a mixture of over and under cooked. Every piece was either too tough to chew, or too squishy to be edible. I took solace in the fact that I ordered the crab rangoon, but found that apparently these are now just fried wontons. No crab. No cream cheese. (see attached pictures) No more Kin Lin anything for me again. Edit to add: both of us who ate this chicken were up numerous times throughout the night visiting the bathroom.

Today was the first time I went into the restaurant for a meal; I've previously ordered takeout from here before and was happy with it. I generally get the 皮蛋瘦肉粥 (rice porridge with century egg and pork). The price is reasonable and it's chock full of century eggs throughout (which I love, so that's a plus). It's one of the very few places in town that I've seen that even offer this dish. It's a nostalgic taste of family home cooking for me. My boyfriend ordered the pickled vegetables and pork intestine, and some sesame chicken. That was delicious as well. The pickled vegetable and pork intestine dish had a nice kick to it, a decent amount of spice. The sesame chicken was not too overbearingly sweet. The only criticism I might have up until now would be the fried rice that came with the entrees was pretty heavy on the soy sauce. I also noticed they have ho fun noodles on the menu, which I'll definitely try next time. Ho fun noodles are inexplicably hard to find at Chinese restaurants in KC for some reason, so I'm excited that they offer them here. Service was friendly and the decor was nice. The booths are a wee bit tight but manageable. Definitely returning when I'm craving some rice porridge or other familiar dishes. They also have things like steamed fish with ginger and mussels in black bean sauce, which are mainstay dishes in my family and I really want to try those here.

First time dining here. We tried the Kung Pao chicken and Crab Rangoon. Both were really tasty and spice level was just right in the Kung Pao, a little kick but not too hot, along with a good assortment of veggies. Great service too, we'll be back soon!

The Chicken Curry had red meat. When I returned and asked why my chicken has red meat. I was told not to worry, it’s nit pork. It’s beef! 🤷🏽‍♂️ Cross contamination at its finest 🤦🏽‍♂️

Loved the food here. I think it was a bit underrated. Recommended Sichuan fish with chili oil if you like spicy. One of the best Chinese food in KC.

Carryout service keeps getting worse and worse. I was given a 10 minute window when it would be ready. It was not ready. I sat there while person after person came in and picked up orders (mostly delivery services) while I still sat there. My order was finally ready 15 minutes after the late estimated time, I get home and realize they didn’t include rice. That should be the first thing in the bag! And apparently everything else sat there getting cold while waiting on the one item that wasn’t ready so most of us had barely warm dinner. This was not our first bad carryout experience there but it may be the last. We will be looking for a new Chinese restaurant to get carryout from. I would not recommend kin Lin unless they figure some things out.

Me and 2 coworkers got take out. I had the spicy and sweet crispy chicken they both had kung bao tripples. The chicken was not breaded as i had wished but still tasty and was more sweet than spicy. They both said the food was good but not great.

Not sure why the ratings are as low as they are. My husband first found this place and got dinner from there, but I was a little put off by the low reviews and didn't want to try it at first. I have since tried it and we both LOVE this place. This is a great takeout spot and we go here all the time now. I would definitely recommend this to people looking for a yummy asian food spot that's pretty cheap and good quality for how much food they give you.

Great place. The family who works there is always so sweet. It’s really relaxing place to be at. Food is amazing. I love their dry bean curd dishes. It’s so so so good. Only thing is if you are on a diet it won’t work because you’ll want to keep eating more and more of their food. Seriously Its that good.

Shockingly poor attitude by the manager.we were four of us and a couple of us ordered vegetarian with No Egg in the dish. But the dish came with egg in it. I understand miscommunication happens with order taking, but the manager came in and accused us of tricking the waitress to order incorrectly. Asking us to pay 50% of the price and have a dish we couldn’t possibly take due to dietary restrictions. Never going there again. Respecting customers is fundamental to restaurant business. Hope they fix it for their own good.

The food is pretty good but the staff is the worst. Donnie, in particular. After calling to check on my food which was 2 hours late, he asked “do you want me to cancel the order, because I’m about to.” He is the manager from what he says on the phone and “new” by my guesses as he can’t seem to run his restaurant on a Monday evening. Coming from a service background I was understanding but if it is in fact a busy or your “busiest” night, maybe turning off your delivery services would help so you can maintain a proper level of service for you customers.

Tonight was our first and last try at Kin Lin. We ordered the curry chicken with steamed rice and it was light on the curry with crinkle cut fries thrown into the curry. What? Soggy crinkle cut fries? Also, very little flavor, just salty. We also had General Tso’s chicken. Bland with overcooked leather pieces of chicken and newer pieces. I just don’t understand how this is served. Service was great. Tea was good but the rest was unbelievable.

First and last time here. I ordered the curry chicken fried rice. It wasn’t hot/spicy at all. The food itself was warm at best.

1st time customer. Ordered to go at 4:30. The crab Rangoon was left over from lunch and was like eating the cardboard on a cereal box. I ordered shrimp lomein spicy. Total disaster. It was extra extra spicy and the shrimp low quality and very over cooked. The Hunan Shrimp, the same. I have never had Chinese food that the shrimp was over cooked. The just have no expertise in Chinese cooking. Sad. They will not be in business much longer.

You walk in and are immediately greeted with the warm smile of the elderly owner and rich smell of Chinese cuisine. The decor and atmosphere are unlike anything I've seen before in a Chinese restaurant. The food. THE FOOD. They make the best orange chicken I've ever had. Their other dishes, like General Tao Chicken, are amazing as well. In addition to entree the sides are warm and delicious. In particular the egg rolls, I'd advise dipping them in the chilli oil. YUM! Lastly, the waitress was just wonderful! She was kind, patient, and knew her stuff. She is really good at advising your meal decision. Overall, this restaurant has brightened my pallet and earned it's place at the top of my "would dine again" list.

Genuinely the most horrible food I've had in years. The spicy kin lin chicken was so dry and tasted like dog food. The sesame chicken was horrible quality meat and the sauce was flavorless with no crunch on the breading. The ginger onion chicken was also completely flavorless and was more bone than chicken.
