I'm in love with this place. I could seriously write a book about it. A note to those who would like to visit. It's not in the best of areas, and the property has been fenced off, though that doesn't stop everyone. There is a lot of debris and growth, and the structure itself is in continuously deteriorating condition. Covered with considerable amounts of graffiti it is important to understand that this place attracts adventurous spirits for better or... worse. If you visit take necessary precautions to keep yourself safe. The vibe inside is something that can't be put into words, as cheesy as that sounds. I'd just say that at 126 years old (2023) you can feel all the history there. Something about a grand structure left abandoned just hits different. 10/10, One of my favorite places in the entire world.

Doing your research on this place helps knowing what to expect! I did know this had been graffitied but wanted to see it anyway! I think the graffit gives this castle uniqueness & charisma! Brings a new life to the history! Very cool to walk through the different passes & doors! Makes for some awesome backdrops for pictures

This place is pretty neat. I am not sure if it is still open for people to go visit though. The street art isn't all that good, but still pretty awesome to see something like this right here in the heart of the city.

Sadly this has suffered much vandalism and graffiti. It is fenced off to the public but you can drive by or walk by the castle. You get a nice view of downtown from the hill.

the Kansas City Workhouse is poorly staffed and quite drafty in the winter. some minor renovations wouldn't hurt. the art is pretty kitschy except for one installation featuring a mask and shrine to some dark feminine god. well worth the visit, and parking is free. no amenities.

I want to learn more about this Kansas City landmark! It's beautiful in its own way. The graffiti adds to the uniqueness. I don't recommend sneaking around as it is private property. I would love to see a news station do a mini documentary on this piece of local history 🏰

It’s sad that they’re going to tear this landmark down

I had a very good time and took lots of pics here, Kansas City Workhouse. There was no interruption and for free. One of landmarks in KCMO. I’m not sure here is where you want to go but mysterious place and cool graffitis will await you. Let’s take β€˜em all! Enjoy!

This was really cool. However it is not preserved or marked as historical in any way. It has been covered in graffiti and has broken glass everywhere. It is cool to walk around in and explore though. I wish the state would clean it up and put a placard or something stating what it is and some history on it.

Unique in its design but the area has been let go, lots of graffiti - which I love if it’s artistic but in this case, not so much. It’s now fenced off so you can’t get a decent view.

Awesome urbex spot! Don't forget to go down the stairs behind the trailer, I almost missed a lot of it!

It’s nice , it would be nicer if open to the public. They should make something touristic out of it .

Cool place to visit if you are in the area, good for pictures and just to look around. There was a lot of garbage inside, so just be careful. Also, when I went, there was someone parked inside with the car on, and a few teenagers taking pictures. I spent there like maybe 15-20 minutes taking a few picture and just looking around.

I have many fond memories exploring here with friends prior to it becoming fenced off. It is a space with rich history, impressive graffiti, and served as one of the city's most unique attractions.

Really cool, we did not cross the fence just looked at it from the street. Future plans are neat saving/restoring this awesome structure.

Really cool to see! Although visit with caution. Especially with kids. Lots of drop-offs, and there was a homeless guy staked out on the upper floor.

Very much not accessible unless you like jumping over fences.

Found this on Atlas Obscura. Definitely sketchy but I was excited to see it. Somewhat isolated area so keep your wits about you. Beautiful castle and the graffiti adds to the character. At least worth a drive by. You can park around back.
