Such an awesomely huge museum, and with free entrance ticket, definitely a must visit even if you're not Buddhist. The monks and the employees are all incredibly helpful and friendly, even if you understand nothing, they'll understand and guide you slowly. I'd suggest to spare a whole day, if not two days for this place. You will also need to bring your own snacks or food, or else the available restaurants are the ones provided inside only (and in my understanding, most are vegetarian but i might be wrong). Don't forget to check the website for more information, especially regarding special events. I was lucky to saw the lion dance and the parade, so much fun! This museum allows you to learn so much about Buddhism and who is Siddharta Gautama. The only downside is although there are public transportations, please don't forget to check the latest bus so you don't miss it. Once you miss it and you don't have any transportation, it'll be hard to go back as it is quite in a secluded area.

Can't really recommend this place. It is incredibly exhausting to get there and away from it again. Public transportation sucks to say the least. Buses run when they want, times are kept to zero. You waste your time. Better a guided tour, with 2 hours and private bus. There is not so much worth seeing. Lots of Instagram backdrops. You learn something about the history but in the end not really spectacular.

The temple and monastery are situated in a big area with major two parts, one part is dedicated to the Lord Buddha's temple with a museum, restaurants, and a park, while another part is a shrine, lodge for travelers, monastery, and a temple of lord Buddha. The temple and a monastery are good and spiritual places to visit free of cost. They have a vegetarian buffet which is well managed by the temple priest and it cost 150 per person. They also have Starbucks and many more stores. A big parking space is available. It is one of the tops tourists place in the city and highly recommend. But don't rely on public transportation, it is poorly managed by the government. It's better to rent or bring your transportation.

Beautiful museum! Stop by and walk around to get some AC and look at the unique gifts you can get! Lots of seating inside and small snacks and drinks inside! We came at the perfect time! Parking wasn’t bad since a lot of the people were from tour busses. There is a parking lot sign for you to follow!

Good place to visit. You will get to know about the history of Buddha as well as this famous architecture. There is delicious vegetarian buffet which is unlimited, a good options for vegetarians. Also, I visited a tea house which is inside the temple. Staff is friendly here. But you have to take care of your own conveyance because public transportation sucks nowadays in Taiwan. It’s better to book a taxi or rent a scooter. Place is worth to visit.

Extremely massive and breath taking - even though it is also extremely commercialized - once you get past the commercialization, it is still very buddhist and a very fine place for prayer and meditation. There are many Buddha to be seen, there is a lot of material to read if desired. All volunteers and monks were extremely friendly and willing to converse and teach. The museum is the main attraction, but there is also a main temple. Do expect to spend at least half a day if you plan to visit the other sites other than just the museum. For those who do not know or would like a more genuine experience - speaking to one of the monk, they offer lodging on the temple grounds. A must visit to see such grandeur.

The surrounding areas are very interesting, peaceful, and huge. It’s quite difficult to go here using public transportation. There is bus but need to check the schedule. At first I thought I will finish within 2 hours. But surprisingly, 1 day is not enough if you really want to discover all. There are several vegetarian restaurants with nice meal and affordable price~ Worth to visit although you are not Buddhist~

Fo Guang Shan Buddha Museum is a massive retreat dedicated to the practice of Buddhism - chronicling the history and for tourists and enabling the local monks and visiting Buddhists to further their religion. The main building features a plethora of exhibits from a golden shrine to the Jade exhibit with one of three Buddha relics in the world to a 3D movie theater. The main shrine interior includes auditorium and access to outdoor balcony. Highly recommend a visit for both non-Buddhists and Buddhist practitioners alike as the area is very serene and peaceful. Open to public / no tickets required

This place is a must see! Although it is a bit more difficult to visit by tourists who do not have organized transportation Fo Guan Shan Buddga Temple I would visit it every time I come to Taiwan. It can be reached by Shuttle bus, at a price of 12$ twd. As well as bus number 8010, which travels a little longer. These buses are reached by the orange line, which helps to get around the city itself. One way journey takes about 80 minutes. Otherwise, the temple itself is impressive, huge, created with a lot of thought. It radiates calm and infinitely good energy. As soon as you arrive here, you will be captivated and without realizing it, several exciting hours have passed. I had a wonderful emotion here. I recommend that you come too

This is definitely an extremely famous Buddhist building on the island of Taiwan that any Buddhist who comes here should stop by and make offerings and visit. A very large, beautiful project. Reasonable design, extremely spacious parking, beautiful landscape, and very professional and friendly reception. There are many shops selling souvenirs, vegetarian food, drinks, etc. We have had great experiences here.

Such a memorable experience and I consider one of the highlights of our trip to Taiwan. I am extremely amazed how the modern day Buddhists made efforts in communicating their faith to humanity from the temple structures to its detailed museum. From the hardships in building this temple to its profound marvel now, truly a wonder! Do good deeds. Speak good words. Think good thoughts.

That's a great place to find peace if you have no religious concern. I spent whole day there but not really visit all the pagodas. I definitely will come back again if I manage to visit Taiwan. I will consider to get a night or two stays in their facilities.

Such a beautiful and peaceful place. From the museum to the monastery there will be quite a lot of walking, but it's so worth it. We also enjoyed lunch there at the vegetarian buffet. Tasty dishes and very reasonably priced. We visited on a Friday morning so it wasn't crowded and there is a lot of parking available. Of you're in Kaohsiung it is a must see. Highly recommend 👌

An impressive buddha museum. This place is massive and so professionally kept. Come so that you would appreciate the effort that they built in this place. It’s wheelchair accessible and have really nice vegetarian restaurants inside. The museum is affiliated with Fo Guang Shan, one of Taiwan's largest Buddhist organizations.

The size of this place is difficult to fathom from looking at the photos. Although I am told that it is often busy, when I was there it was almost empty - giving me the opportunity to talk with some of the very friendly workers and monks there - who all helped to create a feeling of inclusion and peace. Highly recommend visiting here when you can!

Went on a Sunday afternoon, had the bus E02 (from Zuoying bus station) all to ourselves. It's a 25 minute ride going up. The place is quite large and picturesque. Definitely wear comfortable shoes as the walk around is a bit lengthy. Some staff members speak English and one of them approached us and gave a short tour.

I have been there twice. First time we didn't have much time to explore, so only went to the big Buddha statue, Golden Buddha hall, Jade Buddha hall and the Museum spend around 3 hours in there. Second time we spent a whole afternoon exploring. That time we got to see the hall with 3 large bronze Buddha statue. It was a very peaceful place. As well as great Buddha land with Golden standing Buddha statue. Also both times we had lunch at the 2nd floor vegetarian buffet at the entrance hall. That was cheap (only 150NTD per person) and delicious. We will definitely go again to explore more.

To learn and witness spiritual devotion or just to relax in a calm place, head to the Fo Guang Shan.. Set aside some time to enjoy the art and informative exhibits, and listen to the recorded monks’ chants as you walk around the 100-hectare complex. Pagodas on either side lead to the Fo Guang Big Buddha towering 108-meters high, the tallest sitting bronze Buddha statue in Asia.

Located at KaohSiung , very magnificent architecture whether you are Buddhist or not. It will take you about 15-20 minutes to walk towards the great Buddha , if you want to tour around the whole place you probably needs 2 hr. At the entrance of the place, there are shops and even Starbucks. It’s listed as the no.4 biggest Buddha in the world at 36m.

This place is really vast. The most amazing thing to see here is 2 jade wall arts inside the temple. But they do not allow to take photos.

The surrounding areas are Very impressive and cinematic. This temple is very big you have to follow the sign to Buddha museum otherwise you will get lost. In addition, the place is far from the city, E02 bus is on duty but there is specific time you should look at the schedule before going and E-Da bus is not available to go anymore.

I thought going here would be for an hour to walk around, but I ended up spending over 3 hours here. There is so much to see and learn about here if you are interested in the history of Buddha. There was a 3D movie to watch also which was interesting to learn about the life of Buddha. Heaps of volunteers everywhere who are very informative and love to answer questions and teach about the facility. It was a really great experience.

Fo Guang Shan is one of the largest Buddhist organisations in Taiwan. "Fo Guang Shan" means "Buddha's Light Mountain." The monastery is abour 40 minutes drive from Kaohsiung City. It has a great view of a Gigantic Buddha, and also hosts the best Sutra Recitation sessions and Meditation sessions. The newly opened Shing Yun Calligraphy Hall is a must-see, and every year millions of people come to this beautiful place. Fo Guang Shan is a big area to walk with many beautiful buildings and statues. It also give a sense of calmness and serenity. It’s architecture is designed in meaningful which represented the great path to Budha. We began with a delicious buffet vegetarian in here and it is so delicious. Recommended that should try

The place is very nice and relaxing, highly recommend to visit. But the transport here is quite hard 😭be careful of high fare taxi, cost me 300NTD from E-DA to this place (almost like a scam because the driver already set the price and didn’t use the price machine)

Peaceful day to the museum, it took me totally 4 hours to go around the whole place. Lunch buffet only at 150twd with very delightful options. All the volunteers are senior citizens and enthusiastic in history telling. It's amazing that they apply AR in the museum so the experience is even more interesting.

Beautiful museum full of artifacts. You can learn more about Buda and his life. All very interesting and appropriate for everyone in the family. We watched a 3d video, I would recommend people who organized this to add at least English subtitles. I could know about the story behind it because my partner translated for me.

  • 5/5 Heather L. 3 years ago on Google
Luckily for us the place was virtually deserted due to the pandemic and our mid-week visit. We spent hours here, and you could easily spend an entire day. Be sure to check out the museum. There's a meditation session offered in the room with the Buddah tooth relic and a 3d movie for kids. There's a lot of use of technology here. The visitor center offers a surprisingly modern and abundant amount of shopping and food choices, even a Starbucks and a huge vegetarian sit down restaurant. We had delicious vegetarian soup dumplings at the little outside snack bar.

It seems like a huge Buddhism themed park with many things to experience including hi-tech. Everything is well managed but most staffs cannot speak English except the nuns but they are friendly and helpful. The weather is super hot on March and the location is far from city. The bus has limited seats and I missed 2 buses as full. No standing like city buses. You can share the taxi with others which costs 150$, but if no one else, it charges 800$ :(

(Translated by Google) Fo Guang Shan is a well-known place. Its large area and beautiful scenery are among the leaders among the temples. Its solemnity is admirable and not blasphemy. It has never been seen since childhood. I know how many times I have been here, but I always linger in it. It is worth recommending to others. I can really come and visit when I have time.
