Beautiful example of Victorian Gothic Architecture. Worth a visit. Doesn’t take long. Also if you feel so inclined, do give a little tip to the gentleman at the door if he offers you some nuggets of info about the place.

Frere hall has always been a fun place to be around. We used to go there when we were kids to cycle and skate, we sometimes used to go there on horse cart. Then every Sunday the book stalls were setup there and became the reason for me to go. There are often art exhibitions in the hall and the building itself is marvellous. Went there this week for the marigold festival and had lots of fun It is accessible by wheelchair and wheelchair parking also available

This is a very beautiful building. It is currently being used as a library. There was a free class when I visited. The librarian informed it was build 160 years ago. A lot of old books. Part of library was undergoing renovation. Quite dusty and dirty inside. Library is not well maintained. Please preserve the old books. Some are not in good condition. The building is also well maintained. Needs a good cleaning and fixing up….broken stones, wooden stairs. Did not get to go up to see the drawing on the roof as that area was closed when I went. Very good source of history.

Ferere Hall Karachi is a gem of architectural grandeur and cultural heritage. The Hall houses an exquisite exhibition space which is a testament to Karachi's thriving artscene. The standout, however, is the illustrious work of Sadequain. His masterpieces offer a transformative journey through lyrical calligraphy and thought-provoking themes. Sadequain's unique blend of classical and contemporary aesthetics spark compelling dialogues about art, society, and philosophy. The curation allows for an immersive experience, amplifying the impact of his work. The staff is knowledgeable, cordially guiding visitors through the history and nuances of Sadequain's art. Overall, a visit to Ferere Hall offers an enriching cultural immersion that transcends boundaries, making it an unmissable destination for art enthusiasts and history buffs alike. Highly recommended!

If you haven't been, it's a must see historical building in Karachi, kept in pristine condition, one of the few Victorian architecture marvels that has survived so we'll. Take a walk along the park and enjoy seeing it from a distance and up close.

Frere Hall, an #Historic-place and iconic structure in Karachi, Pakistan, dating back to the early British colonial period in Sindh, was constructed in 1865 originally serving as Karachi's town hall. Today, it operates as both an exhibition venue and a library. In 1877, Frere Hall hosted the inaugural attempt to establish standardized rules for badminton. Following the demise of Sir Henry Bartle Edward Frere in 1884, the edifice was renamed in his memory. Frere, a distinguished British administrator, was lauded for his endeavors in fostering economic progress in Sindh and for promoting the adoption of the Sindhi language as the official administrative language of the region, supplanting Persian, which had been favored during the Mughal reign.

Among the few well preserved historical building in Karachi, the Frere Hall offers a good insight into the architecture under the British era. The building has been preserved to a great extent, and continuous preservation and maintenance activities are taking place. The first floor contains Sadqain Gallery but it has been closed since past 2 and a half months due to up gradation and preservation activity. The ground floor has a pretty big library, which in itself looks extremely dated, the majority of books are also very ancient and in depilated condition. The library has a very large collection of books as well as archives of local newspapers from as old as 1950’s. There is also a CSS academy on the ground floor which again is only accessible to the students. The building is located in a huge park, and is accessible from two roads. However the parks are filled with a lot of people sleeping and resting under the trees and on benches. There are also a few slides and swings for children on the side accessible from Fatima Jinnah Road.

There was a flower exhibition at Frere Hall when we went there on 23rd January. I don't know if they're still displaying it. But nonetheless, I really enjoyed there. Extremely beautiful flowers, outdoor and indoor plants, handicrafts, pottery and so much more stuff was available to look at and buy! Gorgeous place.

There's a library and an art gallery. The roof of the art gallery, is a must see. (Pictures do no justice to how it looks in real) The library has a vast variety of books, dating back years and years, but there's no good management there. Very few paintings are in the art gallery, but, still, I would recommend visiting once. There's a lack of cleaning and maintenance overall the Frere hall.

It is really old and really good library. But something is so sad for me. The place is ruined. There are many old books but they keep it very bad condition. I feel like I'm walking through the history but I'm really so sad about this bad condition and bad treatment of the history. Someone should take care of both building and books.

Converted into a display gallery for art, the Frere Hall is a good place to visit for people who love art, culture and history. The building is beautifully designed and built in the 19th century. The entire architecture speaks of the 19th century. The roof of the building was being painted by saadqain, during which he died. The roof painting is thus unfinished and has been left as such as a tribute to him. The completed portion is simply beautiful and mesmerising. Must visit place. Maintainence needs improvement though.

"Mesmerizing Evening Delight: Frere Hall, Karachi" Stumbling upon Frere Hall in the evening was a stroke of luck! The illuminated beauty beckoned from afar, and the experience did not disappoint. The intricate light work adds an enchanting aura to this already popular destination, which is equally charming by day. Perfect for family outings, the hall offers delightful strolls amidst its historic ambience, with opportunities to indulge in tasty snacks. A truly happy visit for all!"

Frere Hall is actually an ancient church building which has been converted into a library and art gallery with a beautiful big garden around all four directions under the local government. The garden is suitable for families. There's a portion reserved for book sellers and also a portion is for families only. Place is nice for relaxation. It's open for public free of charge.

I am glad to have finally explored Frere Hall by myself despite people telling me there was nothing to see. Contrary to the common perception that people just go there to make TikToks and it's just a building and a park, I witnessed amazing architecture, a beautiful art gallery, and an inspiring CSS corner. Not that there is anything wrong with the former. It was a beautiful building, big park, and yes, people were making TikToks. But, there was so much more to it than that. The CSS corner with young aspirants had a vibe, the vibe we have witnessed in Indian movies. The inspiring architecture, artsy roof, captivating art gallery, and much more. Bottomline: YOU GOTTA SEE IT YOURSELF.

I loved it when I was younger. I love it still. A plus for readers! You could visit on sundays, there's a book stall where you could find rare, old and new books. Heaps and heaps... Other than that, the fact that the place is still well preserved feels good. It's a good place to just sit and eat popcorn.

The park and outside areas are very well maintained but the inside is an entirely different story. It seems as if nothing has been properly cleared out in ages and some parts of the structure are in a sad state, a testament to the lack of interest by the authorities. The library is old and seems as if it stopped receiving care ages ago; it looks as if it hasn't been renovated or cleaned out since its conception. The books are incredibly old and worn and have a thick layer of dust on them The art gallery is much better, but not something one would write home about.

Close to our Avari Towers Hotel , a visit to Frere Hall gave a window into the grandeur of it colonial past. An elegant flight of steps to the entrance and a fine internal staircase provided opportunities for those who came to dance to see and be seen. Lovely windows frame the views. Today the interior is tired looking but houses a vibrant art exhibition. We think the hour or so spent here was worthwhile as much for the current exhibition as for the evocation of bygone times. The flights of steps and the internal stairs might be challenging for people with mobility concerns.

Frere Hall, one of the most iconic buildings in Karachi was built in British Colonial era. It was built in honor of Sir Henry Bartle Edward Frere, a British national who is known for promoting economic development in Sindh and also remembered for making the Sindhi Language compulsory in the province instead of Persian Frere Hall is still open for public as a library for all. But unfortunately, the building seems to have now become just another prison for the books since no one comes to the library with the purpose of reading. Even before one enters the Frere Hall, one can witness a number of students in their uniforms with their bags and notebooks talking outside the library, giving a sense that they are doing some schoolwork. But, these students are not here for the love of the books, instead most of them were found bunking their schools and colleges.

Frere Hall  is a building in Karachi, Pakistan that dates from the early British colonial-era in Sindh. Completed in 1865, Frere Hall was originally intended to serve as Karachi's town hall, and now serves as an exhibition space and library. The building's land was purchased at a cost of 2,000 British Indian rupees, which had been donated by WP Andrew of the Scinde Railway, and Sir Frederick Arthur Bartholomew. The total cost of the Hall was about 180,000 rupees, out of which the Government contributed 10,000 rupees, while the rest was paid for by Karachi municipality. Work commenced in August 1863, and completed in October 1865, though work on the building had not been entirely completed by the time of its inauguration.

Sunday 26 July 2020: The road which leads to this historical site is by itself so exciting as goes up to the beach. The well maintained green lawn and the impressive building hall in the background was more beautified by the lovely cloudy weather. Kids enjoyed some kicks on the soft football. I did my social job of picking up trash by uncivilized Pakistanis who had ravaged the whole Saturday night here. Also humbly requested some youth to join and they replied in affirmative.

Frere Hall is a building in Karachi, Pakistan. Frere Hall was originally intended to serve as Karachi's town hall, and now serves as an exhibition space and library. The building was intended to serve as Karachi's town hall, and was designed by Henry Saint Clair Wilkins, after having been chosen from among 12 possible choices. The building's land was purchased at a cost of 2,000 British Indian rupees,[1] which had been donated by WP Andrew of the Scinde Railway, and Sir Frederick Arthur Bartholomew. The total cost of the Hall was about 180,000 rupees, out of which the Government contributed 10,000 rupees, while the rest was paid for by Karachi municipality. Frere Hall is actually an ancient church building which had later been converted into a library and an art gallery. In short this is a good place to relax & enjoy.

  • 5/5 Sheeraz Ahmed V. 2 years ago on Google
Frere Hall is about 150+ years oldest building that dates from the early British era in Sindh (1865). It was originally intended to serve as Karachi's town hall, and now serves as an exhibition space and library. Now a day it is famously known as TikTokers point, unfortunately! Although you can visit this place for CSS classes too. Karachi Is City Of Heritage. 🙂

  • 3/5 Jibran A. 2 years ago on Google
Not as expected! The place was a bit dirty, too much crowd and worst of all; not so decent crowd as well. The Frere Hall itself was in a bad shape: broken windows, gates, and almost all the corners of the building were stained with betel spits (pan took). A historical place is such poorly maintained - a sad state of things! So, I would recommend going with family, but not on a holiday or in rush hours (4 to 8 PM). You will only see boys of utter disgust and cheap behaviour. Other than that, the place has bookstalls, food, and play activities for children.

Today I visited Ferrer Hall and I saw that the wood that was planted in Ferrer Hall has rotted from time to time in some places and the iron that was used at that time has also rotted from many places. The Seas Pakistan team is working hard on this and we hope to get this project back to its original state soon.

Dating back to 1865, the Frere Hall building recalls the time when Pakistan was a part of the Indian British colony. Surrounded by lush green gardens, today, the building serves as a library and an art gallery. Designed by Henry Saint Clair Wilkins, Frere Hall is located in the Saddar district, which is also home to many other picturesque colonial architecture.

Peaceful get away from city life. Enjoyed horse cart ride (Rs. 500) for a round trip, pakoras and tea. On every Sunday afternoon onwards they set book stalls (old books) in very reasonable price, well got few on very economical price 👍🏼. If someone is an early riser then the beat time is in the morning. Bring your own breakfast and enjoy the serenity of the place as its less crowded and also no stalls are open or serving.

Frere hall is getting crowded day by day, but it still is a good place to hang out. The old building offers a spectacular view attracting newly weeded couples, tiktokers, YouTubers, and other social media influences for photoshots and shooting videos. There's also a public library that a few people know about where CSS preparatory classes are conducted for free. The first floor has an art gallery, where artists often display their works. Outside, in the lawn, there are book stalls, food stalls, and play areas for children.

Frere Hall is a beautiful piece of architecture and the grand columns and facade immediately strike. While the exterior is truly impressive, my visit was somewhat of a mixed experience. The hall is also used as a library and an art gallery and I was disappointed by the state of the facility. The hall could benefit from some modern amenities and better organization, which would make it a more appealing and space.

It's a good place for Tik tokers and daters also good for family visit but not on week ends . It's nice to visit there for fresh air and open sky view. If we talk over all review then I should say it's a good place for light entertainment. ABID IQBAL MUFTI

Nice architecture and I wish I have the opportunity to go in during my visit to Frere Hall. However, it is closed during public holiday and nevertheless, still get the glimpse of it. It is also a place where local hang out as well.
