This place is complete waste of time, they are charging more prices than other shops. It’s completely scam they say they will give discount but real price is much lower than what is they were telling. They were influencing the tripadvicer so that more people visit them. If you are still going to them bargain should start with 40 % of price what they were saying. I found other places which are much reasonable without bargaining. They have two places one is at circle and other one at Seoul street. Go through few shops before you buy anything.

The best gift shop in town. The most products are made by local community members.

An Amazing gift shop! Every Saturday they play drums outside the shop and it is heard blocks away. They encouraged me to sit down and play the drums with them (no experience). Humbling to say the least. I discovered this shop on my last day and wish I had more time there. The treasures this shop have is beyond souvenir.

Well. How to describe. As a curio shop, Mama Africa is very unique, because they have a huge variety at very decent prices and work with many local organisations and artists that handcraft the products they sell. While at the shop, I also found myself learning Swahili or just having light chats both with locals and other travelers. So, also a meeting point. Besides that, Peter, the owner, is a good-hearted person that will also assist with other things you may need, like organising any activities. In my experience with Peter, I always got the best value for money. Definitely worth a visit .

This shop is a complete scam. The individuals selling will attempt to walk you around to other neighbor shops owned by the same organization or person. When my friend and I left to look at at another shop, a member inside followed us around the town until we confronted him. At that point, he took us to another shop with the same products and shady, pushy tactics. I recommend going to a store with a legitimate cause and defined prices. Haggling is not worth the harassment which comes with this shop. The high reviews are either fake or from previous ownership. Avoid this shop at all costs! Other legitimate shops dealt with flycatchers by not allowing them inside. It was very simple and effective. Also, if they are fly catchers then they would not have any say in price negation. Again, this is a lie from a shady business.

They have the best paints of Kilimanjaro mountain in the area. We wanted to get one with the mountains and there we found many variations and styles. All the other products are very beautiful too, and the price is quite fair given the quality. The people who works there are also very nice and helpful.

It is a great shop with interesting local stuff that is reasonably priced. They can also do cloth tailoring and all manner of other things. Just ask. Also they can arrange tours, hikes etc which is what we did. When comparing on price, the tours were very competitive and as you can read below, they were fantastic!!! The shop owner Pete is one of the nicest people who I have ever met. He actually orchestrated our honeymoon in Tanzania. We were put in contact with him before arriving in the country through a friend who recommended we contact him if we were going to Tanzania. He picked us up from the airport, organised our hike up Kilimanjaro which was great (Tarry Adventures and Safaris). The hike could not have been better. The hike team (guides, porters, cook) were amazing. The guides were very professional and helpful, the food was great and hearty for the climb and kindness from everyone like you would not believe. At one point i had some altitude sickness and one of the guys (Baracka) unlaced my boots to allow me to get into my sleeping bag because he could see I wasn’t feeling great. They were the best! When we returned from the hike he then met up with us and drove us to Arusha to our hotel to then pick up the safari he had organised at our request. He had also called the hotel and told them we weee on our honeymoon so we arrived to fizz and rose petals on the bed. It was amazing. The safari was fantastic and took us to several national parks where we saw all of the big 5 animals. Once the safari was over he arranged out transport to the airport to get our flight to Zanzibar. I can’t recommend this enough. It was amazing and Pete is the best. It was chatting with a friend who wanted so much for you to have a great time and enjoy his beautiful country.

Mama Africa is more than just a souvenir shop. It also serves as a legitimate method of supporting local craftsmen and humanitarian charities. You'll meet Peter and his mother who have a large assortment of statues, jewelry, accessories, paintings, and other unique art. Peter will work hard to explain where their products originate from, and where the profits go to. Some merchandise is seeked out all the way from Dar es Salaam and brought back to Moshi, only at that store. Others are certified handmade by children and proceeds are granted back to those organisations for kids. Do not follow hockers there, just walk in yourself and bargain. I recommend heading there first during your stay in Moshi.

Mama Africa is an amazing local shop supporting local charities! It is also located conveniently next to my favorite cafe in town coffee union. It’s a great place to pick up gifts and you can feel good knowing that your purchase went back to a great cause!!! On top of that, the owner is great and super helpful. I would definitely recommend stopping in and supporting a local business :)

Went here to look for some gifts and souvenirs. The staff, Peter and mama Diana are so helpful. After looking at the beautiful paintings, I asked if they could commission one for me, and they did. We also booked a Masai village trip from the shop, with Alpha a Masai warrior and very helpful young man. I would not hesitate to recommend Mama Africa Gift Shop, if you are in Moshi go there, and ask about anything.

I wish I had more room to bring more souvenirs home! I truly enjoyed browsing Mama Africa's wide selection and interacting with their amazing staff. Ziggy, in particular, is very welcoming and knowledgeable about Moshi. He took our group on a walking town tour and pointed out several local hotspots/must-sees before bringing us to enjoy a spectacular sunset in the only Moshi location where both Mt. Meru and Mt. Kilimanjaro are in view. Exceptional service, amazing goods, 12/10 would recommend to any locals or travelers looking to get unique souvenirs, art, or a tour of Moshi town.

Hidden, but unique little store, where you will find beautiful art pieces. You will get to encourage locals and support children and women art work - a beautiful place with a community purpose.

I purchased a CD of Kilimanjaro songs from this shop, and was initially very impressed at the service as they went out of their way to find one for me, as in literally went running to another shop and reappeared with 2 CDs. However, I've just got back home to the UK and have gone to play it to find the disk isn't the actual CD, nor does whatever is on there (only one track) actually play. Very disappointing as it is the only souvenir I have from my trip, and it's not as if I can fly all the way back there for a refund..
