An old style small fort with wooden interiors and display of the history of Holkar family through photos, weapons and a temple of that time that has an amazing tradition of worshipping 11000 Shivlings everyday. The ghat of Maheswar is very photogenic and it's very peaceful to sit there during sunset. Devi Ahilya Bai started a society of weavers to provide employment to women, which is still extant. You can buy the famous Maheshwari sarees directly from the society.

The massive Maheshwar Fort stands on hill overlooking the Narmada River on the south. The stupendous walls of the Maheshwar Fort rises straight out of the Narmada River to a height of more than 30 meters. Ahilya fort is named after the famous ruler of the former Maratha Empire- Ahilyabai Holkar. Each corner of this place is filled with history. A part of the Malwa constituency, this was one of the gems built during the famous Queen’s reign.

It is a very beautiful place to visit. The ghat is located on the banks of the Narmada River, which is considered holy in Hinduism. The place is serene and peaceful, with a calm and relaxing atmosphere. The ghat has steps leading down to the river, where people can take a dip in the water and offer prayers. The river is clean and the water is crystal clear, making it perfect for swimming and boating. There are also small shops selling snacks and refreshments near the ghat. One of the main attractions of the Narmada Ghat is the breathtaking view of the sunset over the river. The sun setting over the river creates a mesmerizing view that is worth experiencing. Visitors can sit on the steps and enjoy the sunset, taking in the beauty of nature. Overall, Narmada Ghat in Maheshwar , MP is a great place to spend some time in the lap of nature. The peaceful and serene environment, coupled with the stunning views of the river, make it a must-visit destination for nature lovers and anyone looking for a relaxing getaway. 😊❤️

Be careful if you are traveling with older family members. There are several steps which you need to go up and down here in this fort. Also, it was very crowded as so many school groups were also there. Overall it was nice to visit that place. We had a boat ride as well.

Just back from soaking in the magic of Shri Maheshwar Durg at Ahilya Fort, and guys, I’m still catching my breath! This place is a legit hidden gem that deserves a shoutout. First things first, the beauty here is next-level stunning. The fort itself is like a time-travel machine, throwing you straight into the pages of history. The architecture is mind-blowing – every nook and cranny seems to have a story to tell. Now, let’s talk about cleanliness. I’ve never seen a fort so spotless. Kudos to the folks here for maintaining the place with such love and care. It’s like they put the fort on a spa regimen, and it’s gleaming! The views from the fort? Jaw-dropping. You get a panoramic treat of the Narmada River and the town below. It’s like a painting brought to life. And can we talk about the vibes? Tranquil, peaceful, and a hint of mystery in the air. You can almost feel the ancient tales echoing through the walls. The fort isn’t just a structure; it’s a living, breathing piece of history. A huge shoutout to the team for preserving this beauty. If you’re into history, architecture, or just want a damn good Instagram pic, Ahilya Fort is your spot.

Ahilya Fort, in the central Indian town of Maheshwar, sits high above the sacred river Narmada. Maharani Ahilyabai Holkar ruled here from 1765 to 1796 and built Ahilya Wada, her personal residences, offices, and darbaar audience hall, within the fort.

The ghat is a unique place to get lost in yourself especially in the early morning while the crowd in confined to local peoples and the slow chants from temples consistently flows with the lazy river Narmada in front. One of the best place to loosen up your mind. The temple and ghat walls are highly sculpted with marata style of architecture. I will advise a boat ride to sahasradhara from this place which costs Rs 1200 a boat

Built in the 18th century by the Holkars, the majestic Maheshwar fort perched on a cliff overlooking the mighty Narmada is a an absolute treat to the eyes and is thus frequented by both Bollywood and the Southern film industry as a prime location for their movie scenes. The legend of the great queen Rani Ahilya Bai Holkar is what makes this fort [ part of which is now a luxury hotel ] even more magnificient. A must visit to this place located in the south western part of Madhya Pradesh.

It's Ahilyabai Holkar's fort. She established Maheshwar as the seat of Holkar dynasty. Ahilya Bai was a great pioneer and builder of Hindu temples who constructed hundreds of temples and Dharmashalas throughout India. Fort is well preserved and well maintained. The guide is available there. Our guide has explained all the history and points very well. There is Ghat at Narmada river adjacent to fort. It's structure very nice. The ghat resembles to Varanasi ghat. The ghat is very clean.
