Rajrajeshwar temple is historical temple, made at the time of sahastrabahu, the king of mahishmati. Rajrajeshwar is god of sahastrabahu. Here 11 nanda deepak are continuesly blowing since 500 year. It is one of the main attraction of maheshwar city.On every rajrajeshwar saptami, fastival organised by maheshwar peaoples. Also in shravan mas very heavy crowd come here. Maheshwar is considered as a religious and spiritual place where there is an existence of number of temples including this Rajrajeshwar temple, but I would rather consider this as a place to enjoy with your friends and family and a place to spend time, since it has great views of Ghats, ancient structures and a quality atmosphere.

Raja Rajeshwar temple is dedicated to lord Shiva. It is believed to be place of spiritual trance of Somvanshiya Sahastrarjun Kartviry Arjun. This temple houses 11 akhand diyas /continuously lit oil lamps which are said to be lit since centuries. One can see them in the temple. This temple premise also has temples of Sun/Surya god, goddess Saraswati, lord Rama, lord Vishnu and sahasrarjun

(Translated by Google) Sri Rajarajeshwar Temple Presently Shri Rajarajeshwar Temple is in the form of a pagoda, where 11 unbroken lamps have been burning for many centuries, and never extinguished by any half, storm, rain, flood, war etc. It is believed that this is the Samadhi temple of Somvanshiya Sahastrajun Kartavirya Arjuna. Sahastrajun Kartavirya Arjuna's birthday is celebrated with great enthusiasm in Maheshwar, this three-day festival starts on the Shukla Saptami of Aghan month and at the end a big meal is stored. Donation of pure ghee for a monolithic lamp is considered to be a pleasant supplement, so devotees who come here donate pure ghee, hence there is always a stock of pure ghee here. (Translated by Google) Birthplace of the adorable Lord Shri Rajarajeshwar Sahastrabahu of Kalchuri Kalal Society. The city of Maheshwar was founded by Haihavanshi King Mahishman. It is believed that Ravana was defeated by the grateful son Arjuna (Sahastrajun / Sahasrabahu). At one time Raj Rajeshwar Sahastrajun with his queens, stopped the river's flow with his thousand arms while playing in the Narmada River. At the same time, seeing the beautiful coast of Ravana Narmada, Ravana had a desire to worship Shiva. When Ravana started worshiping by making a Shivling with sand, Rajarajeshwar Sahastrajun ji left the water after the end of the water sports. For this reason the worship of Ravana could not be completed and he started flowing in water. Angry at this when Ravana wanted to fight Rajarajeshwar. Ravana had to accept defeat from Lord Sahastrajun and Raj Rajeshwar Sahastrajun took him captive. Ravana remained captive for six months. Lord Rajarajeshwar released Ravana at the request of the sage Pulasta. It is described in the Puranas that the queens of Raja Rajeshwar Sahastrajun used to light a lamp on the ten heads of Ravana because Deepak Raj Rajeshwar was very dear to Sahastrajun. Even today, the unbroken 11 Deepak Jyoti in the Shri Raj Rajeshwar Temple located in Maheshwar is lit since ancient times and the devotees in the temple must surely go with desi ghee-prasad. The people of Haihayavanshi Kshatriya community, descendants of Shri Raj Rajeshwar Sahastrajunji, consider Maheshwar to be a pilgrimage place. Due to the persecution of sage Jamadagni, his son Parshuram had to fight, Rajarajeshwar Sahastrarjun was the Sudarshan Chakra incarnation of Lord Vishnu, both were not coming to an end, then Sahastrarjunji offered to repent before Lord Dattatreya. At the behest of Lord Dattatreya, Rajarajeshwar entered the Shivalinga enshrined in the temple of Lord Shankar at Sahastrajun Maheshwar. Maheshwar is mentioned in the Ramayana and Mahabharata as well in the Rigveda. One of the best example of ancient Indian architecture. The temple is located near the fort, it is walkable distance. It is very well maintained. The statue and carving outside temple is really beautiful. If you are near Indore, you can take 2 hours drive and go here. From Omkareshwar, it is 1 hour and 40 minutes drive.

The main temple also has 11 ghee lamps continuously burning for many generations. There is also a Sahastrabahu temple. One end of the complex has a dharamshala for people doing Narmada Parikrama.

Beautiful past time behind this small but divine mandir of Sri Kartaviryarjuna Bhagavan.. a deity incarnate of Sudharshana. Don't miss to view the 11 lamps 7 on one side and 4 on the other side that be seen as a reflection in the mirror.. the priest can explain the significance of the ever lit lamps...

Raj Rajeshwar Temple next to Maheshwar Fort is a beautiful old style temple dedicated to a form of Lord Shiva. Famous for akhand jyoti - 11 lamps are always lit here since many centuries. This is also the trance place of Shastrarjun - king with thousand hands.
