Patan Durbar Square is filled with historical places from temples to museums and fascinating nooks and crannies. Local businesses thrive there as it is a hot destination for tourists. The local people living there are very warm and welcoming and when asked will tell you all about the history of this place. When you visit the area, you will find different restaurants, cafes and even vendors that will serve you both hot & cold beverages. It is also the oldest shopping destination where you can find daily goods. The ambience of there is totally different which you will not find anywhere else. It is a must visit place when you are in K-town to have fun and spend time with your family and friends!!

Patan Darbar Square is a complex of Buddhist temples which are sacred for the Nepalese people. A part of this complex has been turned into a museum where tourists can get more knowledge about the history and architecture of the area. There are always worshippers in the temples, so one needs to be mindful of their presence and respect their peace.

Amazing place mostly jammed with locals sipping a cup of hot beverages and spending time with thier loved ones. There are entrance fee for few of the architectures within the premises but it is really nice. This place was destructed during the last earthquake so there is still some construction work happening for some the structures

Admission is 1000 Rupees, you can buy on site, no need to buy tickets ahead of time. As you enter there are local guides offering to take you around the site. I did not do this but they are there if you so desire. The site is very impressive, I enjoyed my visit thoroughly. There are some temples still covered in scaffolding as preservation efforts continue. Very easy to spend a couple hours visiting the square and other temples in the area. There museums inside the Mulchowk building with interesting artifacts and descriptions. Outside the square is also interesting to walk around, there are more temples to see. And across the street is a very large market, reserve some time to walk through this also. Taxis are plentiful in the area.

Beautiful ancient palace complex, with a lot of temples around. You can still see the aftermath of the 2015 Nepal earthquake as they're still recovering some of the destroyed temples. It's nice just to walk around and hangout, admiring the intricate design on each temple. There are cafes, restaurants, shops, and money exchanges available in the area too.

This was one of the few places I wanted to visit in the Kathmandu Valley. It took less than 30 minutes (~400 rupees) by taxi from the area near Hyatt Regency Kathmandu. I was pleasantly surprised that locals sit around in these historical buildings- a living monuments rather than the place just be observed and admired. Paid 1,000 rupees for museums, and I was not disappointed with the displays and narratives. So much to learn from them. I would definitely recommend for the first time visitors to Kathmandu.

KATHMANDU-LALITPUR.Excellent place to visit. Very beautiful idols of Hindu Deities. Have some time to visit here. If you just see deities and idols , You will not find anything Just spend time reading all descriptions. See all things carefully. Watch these and just take everything in your heart. Every Statue has a story behind it. Just go behind many years back.

Place a field with cultural artifacts, a story of kings and their legacy. It is a place of patan king which has now been open to the public and visitors. You can find museums where you can see the item used by kings in the 18th century. Their bed, clothes, knife, tarbar and so on . If you want to learn about the history of nepal you can visit here .

Patan Darbar Square, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Nepal, is a mesmerizing blend of ancient architecture, vibrant culture, and a touch of Hollywood glamour. Renowned for its historical significance and intricate design, the square is a captivating destination that attracts both locals and tourists alike. The architectural splendor of Patan Darbar Square is evident in its temples, palaces, and courtyards, showcasing Newari craftsmanship at its finest. The intricate woodcarvings, detailed metalwork, and exquisite stone masonry create an immersive experience, transporting visitors back in time. The square is not merely a collection of structures; it's a living testament to Nepal's rich cultural heritage. Adding a touch of modern fame to this ancient site is the fact that scenes from Marvel's "Doctor Strange" were filmed here. The presence of the mystical and iconic locations from the movie adds an exciting layer to the square's allure, attracting Marvel enthusiasts and movie buffs from around the globe. While exploring the square, visitors can witness daily life unfolding against the backdrop of its historical grandeur. Local vendors, street performers, and devotees contribute to the lively atmosphere, creating a dynamic contrast to the timeless architecture. However, the square has faced restoration challenges, particularly after the devastating earthquakes in 2015. Efforts to preserve and rebuild the damaged structures are ongoing, and despite the visible signs of restoration work, the square continues to exude an undeniable charm. Patan Darbar Square is not just a visual spectacle; it's a cultural hub where the past and present coexist. Whether you're marveling at the intricacies of the temples, absorbing the energy of the bustling surroundings, or relishing the cinematic connections, a visit to Patan Darbar Square is a journey through time and a celebration of Nepal's enduring cultural legacy.

Amazing Place which is on world heritage too. Hardly suggesting you to visit this place. ❤️💜 Whether you are Nepalese or Foreigners, I hardly recommend this place. I usually don't like every place 😌 But this is something differ where you can get to another level of relief and peace with the ancient and the most beautiful construction I have ever seen. You may see there are a lot of pigeons which are the symbol of peace and many more beautiful sculptures 💜❤️

One of the highlights of a visit to Patan Durbar Square is the chance to observe local life. Locals and pilgrims gather here, adding a vibrant energy to the surroundings. The square also serves as a hub for traditional arts and crafts, making it an ideal place to witness artisans at work and perhaps even purchase authentic souvenirs.

Must visit whilst in Kathmandu. From Thamel, the town Lalitpur is easily reachable by taxi (abt 20-30 mins, approx. 450 to 500 NPR) or by foot (abt 1.5 hour comfortable walk). Ticket is required to enter the square, you can buy it directly from the ticket booth when you get there. As of Nov 2023, entrance fee is 1,000 NPR per person (for visitors from other countries) and 250 NPR per person (for visitors from South Asian countries). They will issue you a date stamped landyard which you’ll wear around your next during your visit. Beautiful square. Many wonderful palace courtyards and temples to see. Highlights for me: - Mulchowk and it’s golden doorway - Sundari chowk and Tusha Hiti stepwell - Khrisna Mandir/temple (access to the interior/temple is only accessible for Hindus) A lot of the buildings in Patan Durbar Square were badly damaged during the 2015 earthquake, while majority has been restored, some restorations are still work in progress. That said, it doesn’t take away from the overall beauty and charm of this place.

Most of the temples are restored after the earthquake except the Taleju temple. Not too many hustlers dor gifts or guiding. Great place for watching the locals relax. Early in the morning people came to sing and make music at the templs. Ask your hotel about it. Same thing goes for the evenings. Would recommend to visit more than once.

As a fan of historic architecture, I love all the old structures in and around Kathmandu. I specially like the fact that these public squares are comfortably enjoyed by the locals everyday. It's so nice to see local old people, men, women and children are playing around and sitting by the squares. The post earthquake reconstruction works are also seems to be done fantastically.

A beautiful place. The museum is especially impressive. The old temples are “up close and personal” for you. Locals hang out here in the evening. 1000 Nepal rupees to enter for foreigners (currently about US$8) - ask for a multi day pass (same price) if you are staying in Patan.

Wonderful place and must visit place for Nepal trip makers. Many temples and it has old unique architectures. There is a Musium and it was really big learning center. Many selfie and groufie locations are there. After earthquake, place got affected in a big scale but the people visit this place come with a fresh mind and enjoy the location. Nearby this location many food and Nepali cousins can be found.

Very nice Temple arts and other sculptures. Though some old temples damaged in earth quake are getting reconstructed . But no proper cate have been seen for existing temples. Most of the temple roofs are full of vegetation. Apart from that group of temples are very 👍. I suggest to visit this place while traveling near by.

The square is one of the most visited and historical places in the city. The square is a complex of temples, museums, and history. The museum you need to buy at the entrance of the square and there are washrooms and a charging point in the museum. There are many cafeterias near an open market. The square is well connected to public transportation and usually crowded on weekends.

A key historical site in Kathmandu for visitors. Entrance fee simply to walk through the square is 1.000 Rs for foreigners which I consider a touch steep especially if you plan on visiting multiple historical squares - the costs add up. Only Hindus are allowed inside the temples. Entrance fee also includes access to the Patan Museum If your budget is particularly tight, go to one of the surrounding rooftop restaurants to get a view of the square.
