Historically the most important site in Nepal. It's the palace of the Shah dynasty. King Prithvi Narayan Shah, the founder King of Greater Nepal started his unification from this place. There is a temple of Gorakhnath in the palace premises. Gorakhnath baba is believed to be the guru who gave faith and blessings to King Prithvi Narayan Shah for unification. We can see the mighty Himalayan Range and many parts of Gorkha from here. It's a must visit place for tourists if you are here in Nepal for 10 days or more. PS: The palace is under renovation. But still you can visit the place.

Okay. Here is the thing.. dont expect much.. Structure is good. Dont expect to see grand and great things.. there arent any... You have to walk 30 minutes straight stairs to reach there.. you can choose to go on taxi too.. anyway i suggest you not to go on rainy season. It won't be worth it. When we went , construction work was going on. One of locals said the place will be fully open at Nwami. There is Gorakhkali Mandir too but you won't be able to see main Murti. They say it is so scary that noone can see it. Even pujaris aren't allowed to see it. That was little weird. Construction of main gorakhkali temple is going on these days.

The gorkha palace is an ancient palace lying on top of the hill of Gorkha. Prithivi Narayan Shah was born here and got blessings from Gorakhnath and later he played a vital role in the unification of Nepal. Magnificient view of mountains and villages can be observed in 360° from top of the palace. The palace wasn't however as big as I had expected it to be. The earthquake of 2015 with epicenter Gorkha destroyed most of the parts of palace and reconstruction is still going on.

The Gorkha Palace, located in the Gorkha district of Nepal, is a historic landmark built in the 16th century by Ram Shah.[1][2] The palace is built on top of a hill at an altitude of about 1,000 meters (3,300 ft). This palace is an hour walk from the downtown Gorkha bazaar. The palace is the birthplace of the king Prithvi Narayan Shah who was born in 1723 and started the unification of Nepal. Prithvi Narayan Shah was born in the Dhuni Pari, a part of the Palace.[3] The PalaceEdit The palace lies on the hilltop and is completely fortified. It is an example of Newari architecture. The walls of the palace are about three feet thick. The floors are supported by extended wooden beams.[4]

Gorkha durbar is a historical place which is located in the gorkha district. A short distance from our accommodation with a guide from the property. The palace/old fort was partially under restoration. Visited several of the shrines and view points. Had a couple of darshans too. Interestingly the Kali shrine was 'closed for viewing' as per local tradition so we said a few prayers outside the door. Photography was prohibited in some spots. Superb views all 360degrees across the region. We went closer to sunset before walking down via the village into the old town.

Situated on top of a hill and surrounded by beautiful views of the Himalayas and the town of Gorkha, the Gorkha Durbar is a palace, a fort, and also a temple. As the birthplace of the creator of Nepal , Prithvi Narayan Shah, the Durbar has huge historical significance for Nepalis. It also has religious significance as we can find many Hindu temples inside the palace. The palace's ornate architecture, beautiful artwork, and stunning views of the Himalayas make it a must-see destination for anyone visiting Nepal.

Historically enriched with its culture and architecture, Gorkha palace is unique the way it is built. The stairways, the buildings, the scenes from the top are actually mesmerising. The place is also a reminder for us Nepalese that with courage and vision, we can do everything that we wish. The buildings are being renovated, I am happy to see how the great history of our country is being saved and rebuilt with so much of enthusiasm and care. It can be one of the best tourist destinations because of its peace and cultures. The ride to the top of the Gorkha is delightful. In addition, nyaye napaye Gorkha janu hola.

Looking at the history of Nepal, Gorkha is a historic place where King Prithvi Narayan Shah was born, who ultimately unified Nepal as one. Apart from the historical importance of this place, Gorkha has developed in recent years as a trekking hub. Apart from the glorious range of the beautiful Himalayas, rich biodiversity, varied topography, and distinctive culture and tradition, Nepal is known around the world as the home of the brave and legendary Gurkhas. And the title "brave Gurkhas" was derived from the Gorkha, as the majority of the soldiers during the wars were from Gorkha. Gorkha is the birthplace of Prithvi Narayan Shah, who conquered and joined the small states to make one large nation, as well as the home of the legendary Gurkhas. Let us know more about this sensational place, Nepal. It won’t be wrong if we call Gorkha the foundation of Nepal. It was from the Gorkha that the first king of Nepal, King Prithivi Narayan Shah, envisioned the vision of today's Nepal. Along with its historical essence, Gorkha is also one of the most beautiful places and has several of the finest architectural examples. From Gorkha, you can witness stunning mountain views, green hills with lush forest, and gorgeous rivers running down from the mountain. Gorkha is a historic place in Nepal. Its palace is located at the top of a hill and has the finest use of architecture. The location of the palace was chosen on the hilltop as a war strategy as well as to protect the royal families from the armies of the enemy. One can see the mesmerizing view all around from the top. In Gorkha, there is mostly the Gurung ethnic group, which has earned praise and respect for their bravery as brave Gurkhas in both world wars. Some of them have also earned the Victoria Cross, which is the highest award in the British honors system. No doubt they have a very strict and fierce attitude on the battlefield, but they are Nepalis after all, and they are very amiable people who will warmly welcome you with a great deal of hospitality. You can also go hiking around the Gorkha, through the lush jungle, and enjoy the views. While passing through the distinctive villages and ancient temples with excellent artwork, you may come across honey hunters collecting honey from wild bees. Also, Manaslu Circuit Trek lies in Gorkha district, which will give them an opportunity to witness the classic, historical, and cultural town.

Regarded by many as the crowning glory of Newari architecture, the 16th-century Gorkha Durbar is a fort, palace and temple all in one. Miraculously, the main structure survived the 2015 earthquake, but damage was extensive, and at the time of research, repairs were still under way. The temple-palace perches high above Gorkha on a knife-edge ridge, with superb views over the Trisuli Valley and magnificent panoramas of the soaring peaks of the Annapurna, Manaslu and Ganesh Himalaya. As the birthplace of Prithvi Narayan Shah, the Durbar has huge significance for Nepalese.

If you love historical places and believe in hindu religon then Gorkha Durbar can be one for you. Gorkha durbar is one of the historical place where the great king Prithivi Narayan Shah was born. Anyone can visit this place without entry fee but, during the time of festivals this place becomes too crowded and one should stay in line. One can have a good exercise and panoramic view as the temple lies at top of hill.

It's a on repairing condition due to which we can't get inside the palace. From the top of the palace we can see everything towards the down. The sculpture of the palace is very good. It's amazing I loved it.

Walking to top is worth it, as it offers a nice view of Gorkha Bazaar and it also has temple and Mathillo Durbar on top. Hikers can extend their walk by going further towards the army camp and descend from other side of forest.
