The hotel is smelly and dirty and no one care about cleaning, you can smell the corridor carpet in the room. The staff is not friendly and complaints are not taken seriously. There is no separate business meeting room. Restaurants are always booked from outside guests and residential guests will not be given tables to eat staff will simply tell you today is full. If you order room service order food will be always missing. Also, staff will simply tell you you cannot have food in the room as it's chargeable. The toilet flush does not work and also the towels provided are filthy. If you ask for a new one they will simply say they do not have enough. It seems that staying at this hotel is a complete waste of money as the hotels around Thamel and the bus park are cleaner than this hotel. Met some Indian guests who were checking out early because of the same issues and the staff at reception didn't even bother listening. This will be my last visit to this hotel and recommend the same to others.

I'm staying in this right now in room 434 while writing the review. Property is definitely 5 star however level of service is not more than zero star. Extremely pathetic. While there are numerous things i can talk about that i experienced in last 24 hours, however the biggest one is AC being locked at 23degree in this summer month. I had been following up from last 9 hours now for reducing the temperature as my family of 3 could not sleep at all yesterday night due to the heat. As of now the response received is not proper. First of all, no one attended for initial 3 hours, then once someone came, he went back saying he will inform the engineer. No one again came for next 3 hours. Now, a guy popped up to inform, that ac temperature is locked at 22-23 degree and they can't change it. A manager now offered to instal and extra FAN in the room, shabby !! You pay 20k for this level of service. I'm speechless and don't know whom to talk to. This is waste of my holidays, money and time in setting up things at a so called the best hotel of Nepal

They really need to maintain the upkeep of their bathrooms. Went their for a day event and found it astonishing that the restrooms for a (5 star?) Hotel was so unclean.

My mother(78) wheelchairbound hails from Kathmandu and has been wanting to visit her place of birth . So we chose Yak and Yeti having stayed there before , primarily for its location. The Hotel went beyond our expectations. The price reasonable, the service courteous , the food, hospitality all were fabulous . The restaurant staff regularly brought our mom in through the kitchen so that she could eat with us . Our 4 day stay just flew. We will come back again.

We had the opportunity to stay in Nepalโ€™s finest hotel, Yak & Yeti, A peaceful, luxurious sanctuary in the middle of the bustling capital city! Yak & Yeti is a five-star luxury hotel located in the heart of Kathmandu, Nepal and is one of the most prestigious hotels in the country that has hosted many celebrities and dignitaries over the years. The hotel is located in Durbar Marg, a popular tourist area with many shops, restaurants, and historical sites. It is also within walking distance of many of Kathmandu's major attractions. They also have a variety of facilities and amenities, including a restaurant, bar, spa, tennis court, convention hall, jewellery shops, swimming pool, and fitness centre. The restaurant serves a variety of cuisines, including Nepali, Indian, Chinese, and Continental. The spa offers a variety of treatments, including massages, facials etc. The swimming pool is heated and is located outdoors. The fitness centre is equipped with great types of equipment. The Chimney is one of the first fine-dine restaurants in Nepal situated inside this Hotel. They have Lal Durbar Palace which is one of the grandest convention centers in Kathmandu. Their breakfast buffet was very good and both of us enjoyed their food, they offer a lot of varieties, and I must say most of the items were very good! We totally enjoyed our stay here!

Beautiful and well kept property situated in the middle of the city ( Durbarmarg) & in proximity to major shopping and wandering areas/streets. They still can improve in services & options they give for breakfast and meals but room service is pretty helping and prompt also the Front Desk & their Management is assisting.

Really lovely. Beautiful grounds and very clean rooms. Needs more seats by the pool area though. Also, the music from the event hall is still booming at 10.30pm which is a shame if you are coming to stay to relax and have some peace!

The hotel is centrally located. It takes only 15 mins to reach the hotel in off peak hours but during the peak hours of traffic it may take much longer. The ambience of the hotel is very warm and nice. Rooms are clean and beautifully done. Its a good option if you want five star standard rooms at a reasonable price. There is a beautiful garden with varied colourful flowers and nice swimming pool to enjoy.

I've had the pleasure of staying at the Yak and Yeti in the past, and each time, they never fail to amaze me with their professionalism and their genuinely friendly staff. From the top-tier management to the restaurant staff, cleaning team, gardeners, guards, and everyone in between, the level of service is simply outstanding. What makes the Yak and Yeti truly special is not just its impeccable service but also the unique atmosphere it offers. It's like an oasis right in the heart of bustling Kathmandu. The blend of history and art that envelops the premises is remarkable. It's a place that makes you feel like you're in a different world, and it's a reminder of the importance of preserving such special places. In a world that's increasingly turning to big-box hotels, the Yak and Yeti stands as a beacon of authenticity and charm. It's a place where tradition and modernity coexist harmoniously. I'd like to extend my gratitude and appreciation to all of the exceptional individuals who made my stay memorable. The staff is a testament to the Yak and Yeti's commitment to excellence. I hope we can continue to preserve and support these remarkable establishments instead of trading them in for larger, more impersonal hotels. The Yak and Yeti is a true gem, and I look forward to returning to its warm embrace in the future. Thank you, Yak and Yeti, for another unforgettable experience. Dirk Collins & Brittany Mumma

One of the most striking features of the Hotel Yak & Yeti is its historical architecture, which dates back to the 19th century. The hotel was originally built as the palace of the Rana dynasty, and its grandeur and opulence have been preserved over the years. The interiors of the hotel are decorated with ornate wood carvings, intricate hand-woven carpets, and antique Nepali artworks, which all add to the traditional charm and warmth of the hotel.

I went here expecting to see yaks and yetis. There were neither yaks nor yetis here. But the food was pretty great, the halls were spacious and the staff helpful. Even though they were not yetis on yaks, which I expected. Total false advertising but superior service. Oh and I lost an earphone here but that is on me I guess.

Luxurious hotel with a 10min walk to Thamel. Stayed here after our expeditions twice to recuperate and enjoy life before heading back home. The breakfast is really good (pastries could be better). The spa is good, but a bit old. Nowhere to lay down after the sauna or the steam room which should be a must have for such a big hotel. The wifi isnt the fastest, but works.

At the event organized by Idea for World, I had the opportunity to visit Hotel Yak & Yeti. This is a five star hotel in Nepal. The hotel houses photos of Rana the Prime Minister and his activities and family. Objects and materials of historical significance are seen. The event hall looks spacious and well organized. The staff are friendly. Wheelchair access and parking are provided. Necessary arrangements have been made to play the game. It felt clean and good.

I had a luxurious experience at this place. It's really good for hosting an event. Wide and spacious halls with beautiful decorations. The food was also good but I couldn't give all five stars because of the unmanaged and improper finishing for the two wheeler parking. A luxurious five star hotel like this should maintain a proper parking space for two wheelers also.

My family visited Yak and Yeti restaurant while being on a trekking trip. We all noticed friendliness, genuineness, politeness and highest professionalism of the service. IMHO it was on par or better than top London or Zurich restaurants. The Russian part of the menu was new for us and reminded about the history of the hotel and the role of the founder in life of Nepal.

Several fond memories are in Yak n Yeti Hotel, since the late 1980โ€™s. My late dad used me take me here for sauna. The hotel has managed to upgrade itself pretty well. The staff are well trained now. The dinner buffet was decent, just wish there were more varieties on continental choices. The young restaurant manager, Mr. Hari was extremely attentive and served us a memorable birthday dining experience.

Excellent experience and hospitality. Rooms have a vintage and ristic feel with traditional Nepali architecture. Food was delicious and satisfying. Only issue was the serive during buffet. Inordinate delays in getting something as simple as water or coffee. I had to wait 40 min for a coffee and after that I just left. So have to take off one star for that. The rest of the service was impeccable and I thank all the staff.

This interestingly named hotel has a fascinating history (check their website for details). It's well located and has most of the amenities that one would expect from a 5 star hotel. The food is above average but expensive. The attached Casino Royale (among other stories, this was where Charles Sobhraj was arrested) has unfortunately closed in 2018.

  • 1/5 Rune C. 1 year ago on Google
Pathetic service considering itโ€™s a five-star hotel. Not worth paying so much. The bathrooms in the hotel stink. Even after repeated requests, our room was not changed. the cleaning staff would visit and spray some room freshener. Service at the Breakfast buffet was not only inefficient but absolutely rude! They ignore visitors at will. Due to the construction, thereโ€™s alsways some kind of disturbance. In terms of ambiance, itโ€™s an old property, hardly renovated as per the current modern standards. The corridors are stuffy and claustrophobic. When inside you the room, you can hear even the slightest noises from outside. Since we were here during the World Cup, we wanted to watch it. Surprise surprise! The tvs inside the rooms are just for show, thereโ€™s no network. In short, they really to work on their services and revamp the place. Oh, it looks all breathtaking from outside, itโ€™s like one forgotten and lost mansion inside! Not At All Worth It!
