Good location, really nice guy at the reception (!!!), and nice rooftop. But my bed smelled like 10 guys, and when I had my laundry done they lost my belt. maybe a single not so good experience.

Very central, the rooms are basic but good for the price. The best is though the friendliness of the staff! They offer tours and book busses for you. Especially Karan is very kind and gives you tips where to eat, buy trekking stuff and much more! Thank you very much!!

We stayed here twice, when we flew in and out of Kathmandu. The staff was very helpful arranging transportation to and from the airport, as well as bus tickets. Both rooms were fairly nice and spacious, although the bathrooms were mediocre and in the first room the toilet would not flush. The staff provided a space heater for the room which was very much appreciated for the chilly January nights. The location is perfect, adjacent to Thamel which is the main area for backpackers. You can spend a night out at the Thamel clubs and walk back within 10 minutes, but also none of the nightlife noise reached our room. The common area on the roof is quite nice, with a lovely view of Kathmandu and lots of different sitting options. The social scene seemed a little on the quiet side, but we were also passing through quickly so we didn’t try too hard to meet people. The veg momos at the rooftop restaurant are great!

A great price, and popular place for backpackers from all over. Relaxed feel with a great rooftop, even if other aspects are basic. Staff are friendly, especially the younger guy working upstairs in the kitchen (sorry I forgot your name, it's been a few months), and Jay at the front desk, who moved me to a different dorm after the staff accidentally double booked my original bed.

Great place to stay and cheap. The owner + the staff are supper friendly and always there to assist you in anything you may need. The roof top is really good to chill/hangout with some other guest and as an amazing view of the mountains. 100% the best place to go stay in Kathmandu

Decent cheap hostel situated in the heart of Thamel. Good value at reasonable price. Very friendly and helpful staff. I recommend to book tours in the hostel as they were much cheaper than these offered by other tour operators in Thamel. Nice bar on the rooftop where one can grab some beer and meet with other vagabonds and hippies.

Economic stay, clean and hygienic and also has a small restaurant in the terrace. You can hang out at the terrace anytime you like. The location is the best just in the middle of Thamel yet not at the bazaar where the noise is too much. I recommend this place for anyone looking for dorms at a very affordable price.

Cheap and good hostel option with central location in the Thamel area. The staff is very helpful and friendly. Our private room was not super clean, and no A/C (only fan) but this is often the case for hostels in Nepal so it only depends on your standard. Great value for the price, 15€ per night in late august, a bit more expensive in the tourist season (i think). Haven't tried the dorms. We booked through the app; Hostelworld.

Writing this extensive review based on the amazing experience I had while stating with Rest Up Hostel. 1. Location - Just across the by lane from the hustling Thamel street. It's at a perfect distance to enjoy the streets without gettign disturbed by the chaos in the market area. It's also walking distance from Ason market where you can get stuff for super cheap as compared to Thamel area. 2. Room - I stayed in the dorm rooms which were very well maintained. Clean beds and linen which and the housekeeping staff were also helpful for any requests. The most important thing was 24H "Proper Hot Water". Saying "proper" as I've been in hostels which claim to provide hot water but then it's just warm at times (specially winters) as they ONLY have solar heaters. In Rest Up, they use gas geysers so no issue of having a hot shower post your tiring trek! 3. Food - A simple but clean and hygienic kitchen at the rooftop. 4. People - Here comes the USP of this place. The team which manages the hostel are some of the best individuals I met on my solo trip to Nepal. - Cheeron - He is the go to man for any help you need during (and even after) your stay. He recommended superb places for trying local cuisine, shopping of jackets and souvenir, local travel, offbeat sightseeing places, etc. He was ALWAYS there for any questions I had and was super helpful. - Rajan - I owe one to this man. I wanted to go trekking but had a very limited budget due to last moment plan for this trip. Rajan is himself an ex-trek leader with almost a decade of experience on almost all the famous trails in Nepal. He suggested me a trek, planned an itinerary and also arranged for a guide at a minimal cost. Practically, he did not charge a single penny from me for HIS services. He just ensured that the local guide (his family member) gets paid as per the standard charges. Really appreciate this gesture from him to ensure that I complete a trek while in Nepal. Highly Recommend staying here if you are in Kathmandu!

We had an excellent stay at Rest Up Hostel! The rooms are very nice, clean and well equipped! The rooftop is great and will allow you to meet people! All the staff are extremely kind and attentive to our needs! Thank you very much especially to Karan and Chiran! If we go back to Katmandu, we will surely stay at Rest Up Hostel!

It was pure coincidence that I booked the Rest Up in Kathmandu - but it turned out to be a great stroke of luck for me. Without any idea how I would like to spend my holidays in Nepal, Gopi organised many tours for me after a few exchanged Whatsapp messages (Kathmandu City Tours with Deepak, Chitwan National Park with Bi, Mardi Himal Trek with Rajan). I couldn't be happier with this choice, Gopi's plans were great and all in all I am having a wonderful time here in Nepal. Even in the off-season, I highly recommend Rest Up Hostel. The hostel itself has a few shared dorms, as well as various inexpensive single rooms. The rooftop bar invites you to linger and you get to know other travellers. I can only recommend Rest Up, Kathmandu as well as the tours Gopi has planned for me, he replies quick and it just seems, as his biggest goal was to help me have a great time and get to know the Nepalese culture.

Very reasonably priced and clean. Staff are extremely friendly. I would also highly recommend booking a trek with the tour company attached to the lobby.

We stayed in the private room before and after our hike and it is great. The staff are really lovely and Gopi helped arrange our flights to Lukla and a porter for the Gokyo Ri trek. They safely stored our luggage during our hike. Comfortable, clean and in a good location.

Yep, just loved my stay here. The staff is awesome, real friendly but not in a fake way. They gave the best recommendations for food too. I also booked a trek with them, as it was the cheapest I could find around town. The guide, Hari was awesome. We got really lucky with him, as some other guides we met on the trail I didn't get great vibes from.

Really nice hostel!! The owner and the staff is amazing, they are so helpful. The people who come here are very nice as well and it is easy to meet them. The female dorm room was very clean and cleaned every day. And comes with fresh linen. The restrooms however were for me less nice, there is a heavy smell coming from them.. they try to clean it however each day.

Well located hostel in Thamel, managed by fantastic people. I would like to especially thanks to Karan who perfectly manage the recovery of my suitcase lost by the airline. He was extremely nice contacting the airport quickly after my arrive (he did so many calls) and receiving the backpack for me at the property so I could enjoy Kathmandu without think about it. Clean and cozy rooms. The terrace is a must where you can enjoy the sunset and try delicious local meals.

I stayed there for multiple nights during my 8 weeks travel in nepal. The rooms and bathroom are basic and clean and its one of the cheaper hostels. The rooftop chill out area is awesome and a nice place to meet other travelers and you get a nice view over the city. I got a severe cough and some fever 2 days after I came back from trekking and the guys from the hostel really cared for me. I moved to a seperate room and they brought me food and tea. And as my symptoms did not get better they organized a transport to hospital for me. 10/10 would stay there again.

Awesome rooftop with great views and perfect place to chill with other travelers and locals. It's quiet atm but that is the state of tourism during these time. Come here for friendly staff, meet others and smoke on the rooftop 👌

One of the best places to stay while you are in Kathmandu. This place is at a walking distance from the most happening place in the Capital city (Thamel). The wifi is a bit slow in the rooms but works great at the rooftop cafe. The rooms are pocket friendly and the hosts are very helpful. Only drawback here is the rooms are really cold in the winter season. There is hot water supply but once you get out of shower it gets really cold. The 4 stars rating is only because of the cold rooms or else it would have been 5 stars.

It's a great hostel for a low price. The host, Gopi, was extremely warm and helpful. You can get all necessary guidelines from him. Location: in Paknajol Marg, in old Kathmandu. It is within walking distance of the Durbar square and wholesale markets in Kathmandu. Room: The private room for 2 was very spacious and the bedding was comfortable. The entire hostel had a rustic theme. Food: Close to the hotel, there are various local restaurants within walking distance. The hostel has a rooftop bar and restaurant too.

They are using gas sylender for hot water to take a bath which was not looking safe. I asked for Wi-Fi password from the reception, his behavior was not good

Great hostel that I recommend overall. I really like it’s public lounge area for hanging out. The internet was good enough. The staff was attentive. The place was very clean overall, and the sheets smelled clean. I took off a star because their bathrooms could use some work, and the two doors to the 4-bed dorm are extreeeeeemely squeaky, and the locks are very rough to use.

Cheapest hostel I ever stayed in. Was not the best place I ever stayed in, but for the money it was great. Good hot shower, clean bathroom. Room was basic, but still good enough to have a good sleep. Chill out area was perfect to chill during the day and have a nice view of the monkey temple.

Great place to stay, very well located in the district of Thamel, with good and diverse restaurants around, coffee places serving excellent ground coffee and shops for last minute shopping ;) the staff is very nice and many work as guides as well. The rooms and bathrooms are clean, and the terrace is about the chillest place you can find. Enjoy your time there!

Staff was EXTREMELY helpful. We were self-guiding our trips, and they went out of their way to help us plan our treks in Nepal, arrange transportation (they gave us the cheapest quotes of any of the places we went), helped us understand the different ways to get to the trailheads, booked us covid tests for our flights out. They let us store our stuff there for 6weeks while we were out trekking. 10/10 recommend.

The staff were very friendly, I had breakfast there both mornings which was lovely. The private room was very spacious. I’m not sure if there were events or activities going on but if there was, it would have been great to know about them and meet the other people staying

Right in the middle of Thamel it is the perfect location to get around Kathmandu. Staff were brilliant and looked after my wife and I, they made sure we were comfortable! Special shout out to Prakash Khanal who booked up our Mardi Himal trek and gave us restaurant suggestions (not touristy either). Room was clean and spacious, the wife had a few hot showers but unfortunately I wasn't as lucky but it was so hot when we visited it didn't matter to me. The snug on the rooftop offers great views and is the perfect place to stick your nose in a book or have the craic with other guests.

Good experience. Gopi was at hand before our arrival and had a taxi for us at the airport. The upstairs terrace was a great escape from the madness from Thamel. We booked a 13 day hike with Rest Up and was cheaper than what we found people had booked online. Our guild Rajan was perfect and the way through and really helped a day when I had altitude sickness.

Rest up is a wonderful place to get a good nights sleep and adjust to the culture of Thamel. The staff are friendly and helpful, the art is fun and colorful, and the upstairs area has a great vibe with a great view.
