Perfectly located in a silent street, in the heart of Thamel. Most restaurants and cafes are walkable from here. Their rooms are quite clean and spacious, and their staff is exceedingly accommodating and polite. They have a cute and cozy balcony on the third floor where you can enjoy tea/coffee, meals from the cafeteria at the same floor or simply unwind. I've stayed here thrice till now and will definitely come again!

Arrived in Kathmandu, impossible to find the place with  Google Map, I turned 30mn around then 15 mn for check in and I urged to go toilets. I stayed 2 nights and can not sleep well because the kitchen make noise until 11pm. Then morning I wake up 5am because no curtains at some windows. I told them no make noise after 9pm because I was very tired but they smile and didn't care. The tv is no more 20" and no work . Electric is not so good and wifi poor. Maybe they are good for trekking but I was not interested. Be sure I will never come back in your place.

Excellent clean, cozy and friendly “ temple” Hotel in Thamel. Its perfect location allows you to go on foot to explore interesting places of cultural interest in the city. Its staff offers you a warm welcome and makes your trip as easy as possible with advices, tips and indications for going alone. They also provided us with an amazing tour at Dakshinkali temple where we were the only foreigners who participate in a powerfull Hindu ritual of Kali. They shared with us their spiritual traditions and They accompanied us at all time to understand the meaning of the ritual. We also went to lunch together in a very special restaurant in Kirtipur, an ancient Newar town by typical houses as well as temple squares with a very traditional local food and a rice drink that They recomend to us and you can not lose yourself.

Me and my husband stayed there for 6 days and it was the perfect choice. It’s very well located but at the same time in a very quiet place. The shared room is one of the most cosy places that we slept in our long trip around the world. The breakfast is delicious, every day a different set, full feeling and included in the price. Last but not least a lovely staff.

I didn't have a great experience here. The rooms are loud from street noise and very cold - the windows are single paned and there are some places where there's a gap between the glass and the frame. They do give you a ton of super warm blankets though, so at least I wasn't cold when I was asleep. The power went out a few times because it was stormy, which wasn't the hotel's fault. But even after the power came back on my room didn't have power. It seems like the building hasn't been maintained very well. Also, I didn't have hot water. All of that would have been fine, but the thing that bothered me the most was the hotel transfer. I booked one through the hotel. When I got to the airport, there were two men there. When I got in the car, one of the men said "I work here, I'm a porter. A tip is expected". He didn't even do anything - didn't carry my bags or help me in any way. I asked my driver if this was typical and he said 4-5 USD would be good, where the entire transfer cost $10 USD! I realized on the ride over to the hotel that I had been taken advantage of. When I told the hotel what happened, I was brushed off and they told me, "You have to be firm". All I wanted was them to reassure me they wouldn't work with the driver again so someone else didn't have the same experience. Sure, it's cheap and the location is great, but I definitely wouldn't go back. Stay somewhere else.

Outstanding stay! The owner and the staff are amazing, very nice, very helpful, so friendly. The rooms are clean and comfortable. The breakfast is excellent and the rooftop is the best place to hang out. Very relaxing, peaceful sanctuary right in the bustle of Thamel. It’s down a quiet road so you don’t get much noise. Highly recommend staying here!

fantastic included breakfast! great price for the room, especially considering the breakfast. The staff are all very kind and helpful, the rooms are pretty and have tons of sunlight. No complaints! Great place, we kept coming back every time we were in Kathmandu.

For me, this was ideal. We got a room with 4 beds because they had it available. Owner was alright, he’s gonna sell you something. But the trip I got was good. Good guide to Everest base camp. Flights, etc… there’s a restaurant in the hotel, not bad. All in all, good experience.

. we stayed in a family room on the ground floor. the air quality was very bad. when opening the window it became very noisy. the light is placed above the ceiling fan so if you turn both own it creates this annoying flickering light. the toilet has broking tiles and loose electric wires. we booked 4 nights and decided to leave after 1 night. the owner refused to give us a refund. we were offered the same room on a higher floor and it seemed better. but we still decided to leave.

Very good choice for a budget hotel. I Stayed in an all female dorm. It was clean, but the dorms don’t have curtains and it could get noisy at night with motorbikes. Bathroom could use some updating but it’s perfectly sufficient. Hot water and good pressure, too. Breakfast was excellent and staff was friendly and helpful. Ideal location in Thamel.

You’re gonna love your stay at the Shangrila. Everything is Nice and clean, and everyone is attentioned and is willing to help you with every aspect of your stay. It is situated in a quiet alley so you’re not as disturbed as in other hostel during the night. The rooftop is amazing, where you can be served a great breakfast. Also you can get in touch with the manager to help you with your expedition trips ☺️ enjoy !

Though you're right in the city center of Thamel, this is a secluded and quiet gem. The roof terrace offers a pleasant hangout, and the staff feel like good friends. Perfect for those who like a laid back atmosphere and a little hippie vibe.

This Hostel was my home! I was 5 months in Nepal and whenever I was in Kathmandu I stayed here and felt warmly welcomed and home. The owner and the staff are incredibly friendly and the atmosphere is very relaxed. The roof terrace is a perfect place to hang around, work at the laptop or have a drink at night. I even got inspired and dedicated myself to a colourful wall painting. The rooms are indeed very clean, the shower is hot and the breakfast is tasty. The location of the hotel is in a quite side street of Thamel, very close to the old center, which was perfect for me to buy local food on the market. Keshab and the boys can arrange all kinds of activities, trekking tours or bus tickets for you. Thank you sooo much for everything! I will come back next year! Diana

We made it to Kathmandu not knowing what to expect and Keke (owner) and all the stuff made our stay the most wonderful experience ever. Friendly, honest costumer service, this place exceeds our expectations. Rooms are simple but cozy and clean. Great price/value.

I absolutely loved my time at this hotel. My room was pretty, clean, and relaxing. The bed was comfortable. My favorite parts of this place were the rooftop patio & having a wonderful breakfast on the rooftop patio. The staff and manager were so nice, happy, and helpful. I hope to stay here again someday.

What an absolutely amazing place! The last few places I’ve been in Nepal had been pretty bad. However I’m so happy I stumbled on this place. Located in the heart of Thamel within walking distance to everything I was greeted by amazing staff. Recently just opened back up the staff were very welcoming and my first impression was how clean and secure this place is. I was upgraded and the room did not disappoint! Very clean, comfortable beds and all the ammenities you could ask for at such at reasonable price. They have many areas where you can socialise like the restaurant and lovely rooftop where you can unwind and have great views! Couldn’t recommend this place enough! What a godsend! Thanks especially to KK (the owner) for your kindness and being so accomodating. 10/10

Despite the name, it's definitely a hostel and one of the top-rated on Hostelworld. So I booked Shangrila as my first stop in Kathmandu. Location: Pretty much perfect, it's a short walk from the main junction in Thamel. But at the rear of the building is a very noisy carpark with cars roaring in and out, and parking wardens yelling until late in the night. Friday nights are the worst as people park to go party. Wifi: Signal is great around the property and it's fast fibre internet with 30 Mbps upload/download. Cleanliness: No issues here. The property and rooms are dated, but they're clean enough. Breakfast: Masala Omelette, 2 pieces of brown bread, butter, jam, and chai or coffee. If that doesn't sound like you, then there are tons of options around the hostel for breakfast. Overall it's a clean and comfortable place to stay.

Awesome guesthouse with super helpful and friendly staff! I was also able to store some lugagge here while i was hiking and got help with my equipment. The location is great, close to the action but mainly quiet. Clean rooms, towels and toilet paper is included (only place where i saw this in Nepal). They also offer a water refill, so no need to buy plastic bottles or purify tab water :) Changing money is also no problem so bring your cash and avoid the pricey ATM's fees. The only thing which was a little bit annoying was that i could not stay at the rooftop because there were always people heavily smoking (weed and cigarettes) and i am very sensitive when it comes to the smell, impossible to stay there. I also got pressured bei the Shangrila pick up taxi service from the airport (not the driver was the problem, but the guy who brought me the 10 meters from the Airport to the parking lot with the taxi). I ordered the pick up service (10 Dollars) because i wanted to AVOID being ripped off and/or pressured, but exactly this happened (i was too tired after a long flight to notice it fast enough) and the driver told that guy a little bit too late to leave me alone when he was insisting for more and more tip (i had not more than 200 Rupies which was the change from paying my visa, but 200 is a lot for 30 seconds work! So rude). Very, very unpleasant and not a nice welcome in Nepal! Apart from that pick up service, my stay in Shangrila was just awesome and i would always come back to this guesthouse and those amazing staff!

Great experience in Nepal from the host. He arranged our taxis and held our stuff while we were trekking. Coming back he helped us get our PCR tests as well. Room was really good, clean and a nice hot shower. Food is awesome as well with a sweet rooftop patio

Staff was very friendly and helpful!! Breakfast was different everyday and was amazing every morning! Provided towels, toilet paper, and soaps. Key card entry rooms. Very close to the tourist area of Thamel and all the shops. Very centralized to everything. 30 mins from airport.

Super nice staff, and very clean. Breakfast here was the best one I had during my stay in Nepal. Also it was good value for the money. There was always toilet paper and warm water.

Super clean hotel and very friendly and attentive staff. The rooftop restaurant serves some of the best food in Kathmandu and is the perfect place to just relax and chill. Highly recommended!
