Stayed here for almost a week. At first everything seem fine.. but toward the end of my stay, I had a very traumatic experience. The manager, Sitanshu Shekhar, kicked my room and barged in, shouting, ready to hit me. I had to go to the police station to report this place and the manager for abusive behaviour. Only after that I found out, this place is run by thugs. I was traumatised for my entire trip in Nepal because of this one incident. I will not recommend this place to anyone.. and if you’re a woman(like me), don’t even go near this place. Avoid at all cost!

Nightmare night The first night someone got drunk and threw up in the bathroom in front of our door. They took a long time to clean it up. The owner's nephew was a caring young man who cared about our well-being and made us feel comfortable in the hostel so we stayed. But the second night was already intolerable. We went to sleep at 00 because there was lot of people downstairs. The owner was getting drunk with his friends and yelling a lot. I went downstairs to ask them for a bit of silence but that was impossible. The nephew told me not to talk to his uncle in that state but I did anyway. Then we kept trying to rest but someone was trying to open the door of our room. We got scared and started to pack everything to leave (it was already 2am in the morning) but we couldn't leave the room because there was a fight in front of our door. We were very scared. The fight was moved to another floor and although we still heard noises we ran away. There were a lot of people on the stairs and a man told us to get inside of the room. We went downstairs and begged for the door to be opened so we could get out. It was hard but they finally ended up opening the door for us and we found ourselves stranded in the streets of Kathmandu at dawn.

I love to stay in Funky Monkey Hostel. Rooms were clean and Service was excellent. Very near from Thanel and Chettrapati. Very peaceful and silent plece. No sounds of vehicles and Croud. I recommend this Hostel. :-)

The unanimous 5 stars isn’t for nothing. The place has modern clean rooms, a social commonplace downstairs, and an amazing rooftop view of the whole valley. Most importantly the staff is incredibly friendly, easygoing, and more than willing to help. Just FYI, the showers are solar and so may not extremely hot in winter, but not cold. Definitely a place I’d go back to.

Great place! Opened just a month ago. Dorm rooms, bedsheets, and bathrooms are all super clean. Located just on the outskirts of Thamel, perfect to avoid the crowds but still only a few minutes' walk to the center. Great rooftop and public kitchen, plus lots of nice little Tibetan restaurants nearby. Owner is friendly and helpful, and sings beautiful Tibetan chants in the morning.

Amazing and cozy hostel. Really good value, friendly, helpful and knowledgeable staff, there's a kitchen that can be used. Great rooftop area. The best hostel in Kathmandu!

I stayed at Funky Monkey Hostel for one night. I had a very nice room(#303) with a view of the mountains. The room was advertised as having a private bathroom. There was a private toilet, however the sink and shower were in the hallway and shared. The owner and staff were very nice and made me feel welcome. The WiFi is good as is the hot water at the sink and in the shower. The beds are good and my room was clean. Very close to the shops and cafes of downtown Thamel, but not too close thankfully. Just about a 3 minute walk.

I like this place!! Sooo comfortable new bed, clean shower room with good wi-fi . Give a big locker. You can have big sunshine every day. Very friendly manager and staff. They cleaning the room everyday. Just only little far with main street.

The stairway is central and the tile floor is kept cool. The short road is well-paved. The dust is cut down to bare a clean block. The location provides a neighborhood feeling. The dogs are well-rested and friendly.

New,simple,small and relaxed places with comfortable beds. Very good location,more of the local vibe and surrounding. Small terrace on the top to chill and have a amazing view of bit of kathmandu.

Now, I noticed, this property become very nice after renovations. Rest all are good. We got special room during renovation. Thank you for management and Razan Rai. He is very helpful.
