Riding of elephants during a safari is cruel and unnecessary. It is exploitation of these wonderful animals who are not built for carrying a family of humans on their backs for several hours. If you can, please take a jeep instead. You can enjoy it just as much and really appreciate the wildlife.

Every safari/hotel in Chitwan tries to include a trip to the “elephant breeding centre”. Please avoid this at at all costs. It is a prison for elephants. The elephants are chained up in isolation and regularly beaten. Just check the trip advisor reviews. It’s a horrific and very upsetting place. Make sure to explicitly check whether any safari you are booking includes this and tell them you don’t want to visit this place. There is a place a few km’s from the town centre called Stand Up 4 Elephants which is the only ethical way of getting close to elephants in Chitwan. It is free to visit you just need to call/email in advance and you are able to make a donation after your visit if you wish.

Instead of using an agency, I went straight to the checkpoint and purchased the safari directly from the guide, Jungle Man, who is in the last photo. There is only one official operator of the jeep tours inside the park, and all the agents sell the same offers. I received offers ranging from 1600 to 2500 for the exact same trip. Ultimately, I purchased the safari directly from the guide for 1720, which included the entrance fee for the crocodile farm. Additionally, I paid 2000 for the permit, which is valid for one day inside the park and one day in the perimeter zone, totaling two days. Most people I spoke to did a 4-hour jeep safari inside the park, like I did, and a 4-hour morning hike in the perimeter area. There is also an option for a whole day hiking safari, but I don't have any feedback on that one. We also encountered at least three pairs of hikers inside the park. Such hikes require two guides for protection. Both the walk inside the park and the walk in the perimeter zone were highly recommended by everyone I spoke to. They mentioned that they could observe animals up close, and since the walk is silent and there are only a few people, it doesn't scare the animals away. The jeep safari was fantastic as well. We saw a total of 13 rhinos on seven different occasions. Additionally, we saw at least 100 deer that looked like Bambi, one large black deer, some wild pigs, multiple different bird species, and our jeep even got stuck in a ditch, which was quite exciting on its own. I regret not staying one more day to do the hike instead of rushing to Kathmandu. I had the time, and it would have been worth it.

Ok, a buddy and I went on this “safari” in March of 2018. We asked the front desk clerk at our hotel what he thought of it. That should of been a red flag right there. He said, “sometimes you see something, sometimes you don’t.” If you aren’t familiar with the phrase “Condemnation through lack of praise”, it fits well in this scenario. He said that for $20.00, how can you go wrong ( or maybe I said that to convince myself to go). If you think you will drive over a ridge and as you go down you’ll see thousands of animals in a herd grazing in the grasslands, ha ha ha ! That was me . I saw a lizard in a tree, some monkeys from a distance, a few birds, and an actual rhino through some dense bush. It was a 3 hour drive through the bush. The highlight of the Jeep Drive was watching the other tourists, especially the English guy hanging out with his parents-in-law.... on a holiday with their daughter( the look in his eyes as his mother in law spoke with that voice, wow!).

That's where the greatness ends. Our first room smelled bad, had no AC, no hairdryer and no TOILET SEAT!! There was also no phone so complaining involved walking 1/4 mile back to the office only to find out they couldn't move us until the following day. We didn't sleep much that night. The food, even for Cuba, was bad. Dishes were filthy. I tried to find a clean plate the first day and then gave up. Table cloths, I think, were used to clean the dishes. We ate outside where there were no tablecloths. Local restaurants were very good but it seems a shame when you go "all inclusive" that you have to fork out extra money for a decent meal. I will not return to Club Kawama. I don't know why some people keep returning. Once was enough for me. This was not my first trip to Cuba. My previous trip to Memories in Holguin was wonderful but I wanted to see Varadero. There must be a better hotel in Veradero. I suggest a 5 star.

Noticeable flesh wounds on the elephants. Their forehead has injure due to repeated hits from a wooden stick to obey command, and behind their ears are bleeding wounds from being stabbed with a sharp metal stick. But I guess bringing back other wildlife is a good thing, too bad to see the beautiful elephants taking harm because of it though.

An awesome place to spend all day long with friends. But tune down your expectation of watching wild animals running wild in jungle. Might happen if you are very lucky

It was great to dive into the real jungle. Don't expect to see too many animals from close of you go walking. Though you might see some crocodiles and rhino from far

Best time would be March ones as the length of grass would be less, this making the animals visible easily... Jeep safari and elephant safari available. Both would be super existing.. photography is not allowed at checkpoint. There are some villages as well, thus you can feel the presence of humans.. don't forget to carry binoculars...
