I stayed for a week and will come back. Very clean, definitely new bedsheets for new guests and bathroom cleaned daily. Beautiful view of the mountains from the rooftop dining area, the kitchen can be used for free. You can either make your own breakfast (eggs, toast, jam) or ask Shalik to prepare it. Speaking of Shalik, what a great host. He is very accommodating, offers advice and can help you organise a cheap trip with a guide, but at the same time he isn't too pushy and doesn't make you feel uncomfortable. I for example found a different trekking group in the end that already had a guide but other than that he had a great offer which I would have gone with. You can have great conversations with him as well. In between I stayed at one of the other top rated hostels but after one night moved back here. Also, it seems to be getting a little bit more busy every day now so you can meet like-minded, laid back travellers. What more could you want? Actually, the location on Google maps is inaccurate, it's about 70m further up north and then on the right hand side, easy to miss. But still an excellent location surrounded by many cheap local as well as some touristy restaurants and cafes.

I really enjoyed my stay at Rambler hostel, even extending from my previous 2 day booking to 9 days! It's situated in the Chetrapati area of Thamel and is a short walk to the main tourist area of Thamel. The internet is okay but it does sometimes go in an out - not unusual for Kathmandu though. Best of all, each room has its own bathroom that gets cleaned every day. There are lockers in each room as well if you would like to safely store your belongings. The owner, Shalik, was super accomodating when I had to keep extending my stay and was always so friendly. He even moved me from a mixed room to an empty female-only room which was very kind of him. Like a lot of the establishments in Nepal, Rambler hostel can also suggest and recommend tours, travel expeditions and the like. Stars across the board for me!

The room was quite nice for its price and it was well kept but we found stands of hair on the pillows and cushions in the room. Adding to that it’d be nice to be provided with a small bar of soap for use in the washroom still appreciate the place and was a good experience . For anyone seeking sleep after 6am it’s surely not gonna be easy 😇

Worst stay ever! I don't know why there are so many good reviews. Hostel is located at the back of the building, very hard to find and very dark at night. The path that leads to it is near open drains and rats running along. This whole place is covered in dust and dirt. The worst thing is that cockroaches are everywhere in the room. If you find and kill one, be sure there's another one hiding behind the wardrobe or in the bathroom. Not to mention huge spiders in the room and hostel facilities. Had to change place after one night. Avoid this place!

We didn’t even have a room reservation just walked by to check the place out. The owner was genuinely the sweetest man we’d ever met. Offered to make us authentic Nepali milk tea and was so welcoming. The view was absolutely stunning. Everyone always says that people in Nepal are so friendly but everyone we ran into at this hostel really took it to another level! Definitely recommend!

It's the one of cheapest hostel beds in Kathmandu. Owner is a very nice pleasant and helpful guy who we can ask any help to advise regarding our visits and stay and do's and don'ts in Kathmandu. Where we can have Plenty of places and choices to have delicious Street foods and restaurants around. Recommend for any guy who is looking for a safe bedding in Kathmandu and Thamel Area.

So if you are looking for some hostel in the capital of Nepal, i strongly recommend that place to spend some vives.

Amazing easy comfortable stay. The owner had great communication, was super prompt to making sure our stay was comfortable & even made us a yummy breakfast in the mornings! It’s right in town which is convenient to be able to walk anywhere ~ I will definitely stay here again for any future adventures to Nepal!

Rambler Hostel is a nice budget place, with most necessary amenities. The staff are friendly. They provide free towel, breakfast and drinking water. There's a locker that you can use with your own lock. Although there is free wifi, it is very slow and is not available up on the roof terrace (if these are important for you). The rooms, beds, and restrooms are clean. Unfortunately the hostel is not very social, otherwise it would be even better!

If you’re looking for a cozy hostel on a budget, this is the place for you. Super friendly staff and great location in the heart of Thamel. Comfortable beds and hot water. I stayed for 2.5 weeks and would absolutely stay again upon return to Nepal.

Amazing hostel! It has the most friendliest staff who will make sure that you will have lovely time there. They tell you the best places to go and how to go if you just ask. Rooms are super clean and hot shower is great. Rooftop view is amazing, specially at the sunset time. There are lots of good and cheap restaurants and cafes nearby. Sabal cafe is the best! The location is also really good for checking main places in Kathmandu like Durbar square which is only five minutes away. Thank you Rambler, you really made my time in Kathmandu <3

Stayed at Rambler hostel for 6 nights whilst in Kathmandu. Where to start! Well it’s the cleanest place I’ve stayed in whilst traveling. The rooms are a good size with clean fresh bedding and real beds, not a thin mattress. The bathrooms are immaculate with hot showers and the free breakfast was more than enough. This is the place to stay in Kathmandu. A hostel that feels more like a hotel.

We stayed in a triple single bed room(we are a couple). Room was very spacious, everything was clean (bed sheets, pillows, bathroom). Bed are really comfortable. Corridors, stairs are also clean, everything well maintained. Staff is friendly and the owner can help you for everything you need. We stayed 4 nights and it was a pleasure. Only thing, as almost all the hotels in Nepal, very noisy during the day, but night is ok. You can trust the photos, is really like it. Recommended.
