Proclaimed to be the Head (Shir) of Lord Kedarnath Jyotirlinga, a beautiful temple under renovation at Suryavinayak VDC of Bhaktapur district. Approach road is very narrow, needs immediate widening, parking is congested needs expansion, renovations of temple must be as of Nepalese tradition & it must not be constructed by concrete & rods.

For 4000 years people have been searching for the head of the Panch Kedar temples, a bull who was Shiva in reality, who assumed the shape of a bull to avoid the five Pandava brothers, the heroes of the Mahabharat. The legend goes back to the fabled battle of Kurukshetra fought between the five Pandava brothers and their cousins, the 100 Kaurava brothers, which is the pivot of the Mahabharata. Many folk legends related to the Garhwal region, Lord Shiva and the creation of the Panch Kedar temples are narrated. A folk legend about Panch Kedar relates to the Pandavas, the heroes of the Hindu epic Mahabharata. The Pandavas defeated and slayed their cousins — the Kauravas in the epic Kurukshetra war. They wished to atone for the sins of committing fratricide (gotra hatya) and Brāhmanahatya (killing of Brahmins — the priest class) during the war. Thus, they handed over the reins of their kingdom to their kin and left in search of lord Shiva and to seek his blessings. First, they went to the holy city of Varanasi (Kashi), believed to be Shiva's favourite city and known for its Kashi Vishwanath Temple. But, Shiva wanted to avoid them as he was deeply incensed by the death and dishonesty at the Kurukshetra war and was, therefore, insensitive to Pandavas' prayers. Therefore, he assumed the form of a bull (Nandi) and hide in the Garhwal region. Not finding Shiva in Varanasi, the Pandavas went to Garhwal Himalayas. Bhima, the second of the five Pandava brothers, then standing astride two mountains started to look for Shiva. He saw a bull grazing near Guptakashi (“hidden Kashi” — the name derived from the hiding act of Shiva). Bhima immediately recognized the bull to be Shiva. Bhima caught hold of the bull by its tail and hind legs. But the bull-formed Shiva disappeared into the ground to later reappear in parts, with the hump raising in Kedarnath, the arms appearing in Tungnath, the face showing up at Rudranath, the nabhi (navel) and stomach surfacing in Madhyamaheshwar and the hair appearing in Kalpeshwar. The Pandavas pleased with this reappearance in five different forms, built temples at the five places for venerating and worshipping Shiva. The Pandavas were thus freed from their sins. It is also believed that the fore portions of Shiva appeared at Doleshwor Mahadeva Temple, Bhaktapur district Nepal. The Hindu activist Bharat Jangam had been researching and claiming that Doleshwar Mahadev is the head part of Kedarnath based on the surprising links between Kedarnath and Doleshwor. The Sculptures of Shive found in both shrines are 4,000 years old. Even a stone scripture found in Doleshwor was written in Sanskrit an old Nepalese language.

It is also believed that the fore portions of Shiva appeared at Doleshwor Mahadeva Temple, Bhaktapur district Nepal. A variant of the tale credits Bhima of not only catching the bull, but also stopping it from disappearing. Consequently, the bull was torn asunder into five parts and appeared at five locations in the Kedar Khand of Garhwal region of the Himalayas. After building the Panch Kedar Temples, the Pandavas meditated at Kedarnath for salvation, performed yagna (fire sacrifice) and then through the heavenly path called the Mahapanth (also called Swargarohini), attained heaven or salvation. The Panch Kedar Temples are constructed in the North-Indian Himalayan Temple architecture with the Kedarnath, Tungnath and Madhyamaheshwar temples looking similar. After completing the pilgrimage of Lord Shiva's darshan at the Panch Kedar Temples, it is an unwritten religious rite to visit Lord Vishnu at the Badrinath Temple, as a final affirmatory proof by the devotee that he has sought blessings of Lord Shiva.

Doleshwor Mahadev is considered to be the head part of Kedarnath of Uttarakhand of India. The road leading upto Doleshwor Mahadev is peaceful and serene. The directions may be tricky so it's better to go, asking the directions. The temple has been reconstructed and lies at the foot of the hill.

This place has roots connected with Hinduism and Kedarnath Temple. Doleshwar Temple is situated amidst the beautiful mountains of the Himalayas. Easily reachable from Kathmandu, around 35-40 minutes via car. The entrance road and approach of temple needs to be improved. I went early in the morning so no rush was there.

This temple is located in Bhaktapur and is around 30 mins away from Bhakatpur Durbar square. This temple is said to consist of head of Kedarnath Shiva temple. The temple area is small. Not many tourists visit here, so you can easily perform Puja here. Finding cab while returning from this place could be an issue. Hence it is advisable to book round trip if you are planning to hire a cab.

A very beautiful temple dedicated to lord Shiva. A very peaceful place. It’s the head portion of Shiva who appeared in Kedarnath. Some renovation work is going on in the temple at present. The sights surrounding the temple are also really nice. There is Manokamana Devi temple by the right along with an array of Shiva lingas. A big Nandi welcomes us. By the way the temple is located by the countryside and there aren’t much eateries on the way

Dholeshwar Mahadev Temple is the another part of Kedarnath Jyotirling which completes this 11 th Jyotirling/Shrine out of 12 Jyotirling in every senses. It's situated at Bhaktapur, Nepal in the top of a Mountain. From Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal, it is about 43 kilometers nearly. The mesmerising beauty and holy ambience of Lord Shiva is breathtaking. One must visit this Auspicious Venue in his/her lifetime once to complete 12 out of 12 Jyotirling. Har Kadam Bhole Bom. Har Har Mahadev 🙏

Doleshwor Mahadev Temple is located in Nepal’s Bhaktapur district, 20 kilometers from Kathmandu. It takes about 30 minutes to drive from Kathmandu to Doleshwar. For all Shiva enthusiasts, a trip to Kedarnath is not complete unless they visit Doleshwor Mahadeva and Pashupatinath. A pilgrimage to these three sacred spots is thought to wash away all of one’s sins and provide an opportunity to receive heavenly blessings from Lord Shiva.

Very nice ambience and a good outskirt trip. Doleshwar mahadev is considered to be the manifestation of Lord Shivas back. The drive is safe and its better to take a car or bus. There isn’t much to do except for the mini 108 shivlings, mandir darshan and visiting the ashram. The Aphno Ghar Ashram is an amazing concept wherein people who are physically or mentally challenged are given accommodation and they make you go through their entire day at a glance.
