A quality hotel for a reasonable price. Helpful staff. Complimentary water, coffee, tea and toilet paper. A very good shower. I would however recommend ear plugs as the doors in the hotel are quite loud and so is the cafe next door. I stayed in a private room and would recommend this hotel.

We stayed in Flying Yak twice and the second time was for a week. You can't find a better hotel for the price, location, and quietness. The rooms are very small but comfortable. The bathrooms - ahh the bathrooms! It's so hard to find comfortable bathrooms in Nepal and this is the nicest bathroom I've seen in Nepal for a budget traveler. In terms of location - amazing. Literally everything you need within a ONE minute walk. Laundry, cafes, restaurants, gifts, trekking gear, etc. The street it's connected to has lights lit up at night which makes it pretty. In terms of sound - it is very difficult to find quiet in Kathmandu - but luckily the street this is on is off the main street and a quiet street. It's a street of hotels and a cafe, which is amazing because everyone is quiet at night and morning. I've stayed in a residential street before and though you'd think it's quiet - neighbors can be very loud. So, look no further. This is the place to stay.

Stayed for two nights with my child. The room was clean, the matress was our highlight after sleeping on typical Nepali beds for some weeks. The AC worked well, tea at the reception for free. We enjoyed staying there despite the "oversmart" guy on the frontdesk.

Very clean, big rooms and comfortable beds! It was just what I needed after trekking, just in the center of Thamel. The staff was definitely always friendly, we have become friends and I would be very glad to visit again. :-)

Super good experience. Always warm welcome in the lobby, best mattresses we had our entire month in Nepal and very clean. I would definitely recommend. Yes it's a bit more expensive then other hostels, but you get a lot more for that money in our opinion.

Despite being situated in the bustling heart of the city, this hotel managed to provide a serene and tranquil environment throughout our stay. The rooms are neat and well maintained. The hotel's central location was a BIG advantage, as it provided easy access to the various shops, restaurants and attractions in Thamel. Within walking distance, I found myself surrounded by a plethora of dining options, unique boutiques and lively nightlife. It was a delightful experience.

Stayed here twice because it’s such a chill hostel. Mostly private rooms, but the dorms are really clean, good beds, pleasant shower (hot water!). The people at the door welcome you with tea and coffee and there is a lounge where you can sit. Definitely not the most social hostel but in my case it was really nice coming here after my trek. Next door you gave avocado cafe which is a really nice cafe, and in the same street, opposite the hostel there’s a really nice and helpful traveling agency. All in all I’d say really good hostel experience, especially considering the insanely low prices.

Very Friendly staff, well located, free coffee as much as you want, and you can refill your water bottles. The rooms are best value for money. Sometimes some noise at night from other costumers banging doors etc.

Flying Yak Kathmandu and their team was an amazing choice for our first Nepal visit. The hotel is located in Thamel, quarter with plenty of places to eat, drink and shop. Also ca 20 minutes from the airport. The staff is super friendly and super helpful - we arranged guide around Kathmandu, taxi back to airport, asked questions about Kathmandu, Nepal… They speak very good English and communicate promptly. The place is very clean, rooms are equipped with all you need and are also clean and comfortable. The price is also very fair for what you get. We will gladly come back one day. 🙏🏔️

I am a bit picky when it comes to where I sleep. Cleanliness, wifi speed, and quiet environment are the top three qualities I look for when booking a hotel. I like finding places that provide the top value with max quality. My stay at Flying Yak was a last minute booking. This hotel exceeded my expectations in terms of value, location, cleanliness, attention to detail and comfort of sleep. The wifi was fast, the reception is friendly and willing to answer all my questions about trip planning. I will definitely stay here again and I highly remommend Flying Yak when you’re in Nepal.

My stay at Flying Yak was incredibly comfortable. It is very easy to make friends in this hostel and the beds are very clean and very comfortable. All the staff are so friendly and helpful, Bikas on the evening shift especially. And there's free coffee, really really good Nepali coffee, as much as you want! And there's a cool view on the roof. Highly recommend Flying Yak, I've stayed in many hostels in my life and this is easily one of my favourites.

I had a wonderful experience staying at Flying Yak. The room is super clean, the bed is comfortable, there is no weird smell, and the bathroom is tiny but with nice hot water shower. Everything just works well. The only thing that may be improved is wifi. It might be on/off sometimes. But I managed to have a 1-hr Zoom meeting with my colleague in NYC, so I guess it's not too bad. The location is also nice. It's in Thamel and within walking distance to shops and restaurants, and also to Durbar Square (15 mins). The staff are amazing. Everyone is so friendly and helpful, especially Raj. I met him when I checked in, and he immediately helped me arrange my trips for the next few days. With his help, I had a wonderful tour the next day with Jaya (hope I spell his name right). Jaya is from the local and he is passionate about Nepal's history, religion, and people. I highly recommend this place to people who are looking for a safe, relaxed, and low-key place to stay in Thamel. I would stay here again the next time I visit Kathmandu.

This is the place to stay while in Kathmandu. The hotel was not stale and bland, it had a unique feel and vibe. The curved brick walls and delicate wood work give it soul. The host Naveen was extremely kind and helpful.

I stayed here for a month in one of the dorms and had a very good experience. The wifi was always very good and somehow even worked when the power would go out (on the whole street). Facilities were always very clean and functional. Free coffee, tea, and drinking water at all times. Plenty of sitting and working space. Staff was professional and very knowledgeable about all the shops in the area and whatever other questions I had. Bikash (receptionist) was especially helpful and even took me on tours to amazing little known (by tourists) locations around Kathmandu. On these trips we took local buses and ate at small local restaurants in what was an amazing experience of local Nepali life. If I ever come back to Kathmandu I will definitely be staying here again!

Excellent Hotel in Thamel facilities are excellent value for the money, good shower and bathroom and the rooms are a good size. Good COVID preparedness. Then there is the hotel proprietor Santosh. For background I stayed here for the first time on my way to the mountains and just before the May/21 lockdowns. We were stranded in Lukkla for two days after domestic flights were officially shut down. Santosh had my back the entire time letting us know when official policy changed helping to negotiate pcr tests, and helicopter evacuation, plane tickets the works. Without his help I probably would have been stuck in Nepal for the lockdown. I don't think you can find a hotel that has your interests at heart as much as this one . Id give it ten Stars if I could and will never stay anywhere else.

Loved staying here! We stayed here for 3 nights in early Nov 2022. Very impressed by the quality of rooms. Hot showers to come home to and clean rooms at a reasonable price! Was a treat to stay in a quieter alley -next to a fun restaurant next door (good desserts!)- and to escape the hustle and bustle at the end of the day.

During our time in Nepal we stayed in four different hotels in Kathmandu and this one was definitely the best! Great room, perfectly clean, very good shower and they offer toilet paper and other bathroom utilities like shampoo. (Most other hotels in this price range don't)

Amazing place to stay in Kathmandu. First the location, you’re right in the middle of everything, easy to get to all the famous spots. However the best part is the reception and help you will get. They helped me and my girlfriend travel around for the best rates we could find, change money and pretty much anything we needed. Even when traveling to different cities. Highly recommended, you won’t regret.

One of the best places I have been to with excellent service and near to many things in Katmandu. You should try the coffee in the lobby, it's the best. Everyone is very welcoming and the place even has a side cafe on the side of the hotel with great vibes and music and an open area. All I can say is this is my 3rd time and I absolutely adored it.

We followed the many good reviews when we booked this hotel. Unfortunately we were disappointed. It is true that the hotel is clean and the staff is very friendly, but unfortunately the beds are far too soft and therefore so uncomfortable that we had to move to another hotel after just one night. The reason is the mattresses, where you sink down completely and feel every spring. We actually wanted to stay five nights, but we didn't want to risk the health of our backs.

The receptionists and manager were very helpful with our tours and accommodating with our requests without addtl charges. The bed was similar with hotel bed with thick mattresses and had AC, very comfortable. Location is nice with roof deck. Everything else is great for a very inexpensive price. Will stay again on my next visit.

It is only 10 meters from the best street in kathmandu, so that is a good start. I fell in love with the best hot shower and bed i had seen in my whole travelling! They have a really good rooftop as well. And the staff is always nice.

We stayed at the Flying Yak for a few days in November. Our room was a bit small but recently renovated, clean, modern and comfortable. No view but nice and quiet which is appreciated in the heart of Thamel. Staff were super nice. Breakfast was good. Coffee was freshly made and excellent. Good value. Would stay there again.

Exceeded our Expectations and Beyond in Hospitality We were looking for a budget stay option at Thamel and stumbled across this gem. Located at the heart of Thamel with easy access to everything around. The owner, Mr Santosh, was extremely hospitable and took care of all our needs, managing our bus tickets and airport pickup drop and our travel plans to Pokhara. He constantly kept tabs to ensure we had a great time and assisted in everything we needed. The rooms are very clean and well decorated with proper amenities like hot water, shampoo, shower gel etc. Bed was soft and unimaginably comfortable, especially after a long day of traveling around. Bathroom was clean and hygienic with hair dryer, toothbrushes, shower gel, shampoo and towels. The restaurant adjacent to it, Cafe Avocado, had amazing food too. Had the best experience at Flying Yak, would definitely stay again and recommend to everyone. The hotel is absolutely value for money. Everyone at the hotel was super nice and helpful. Best wishes to Flying Yak.

Upon arrival to Kathmandu, I took a taxi and arrived at the Flying Yak Kathmandu. Instantly I was greeted very warmly and this was an amazing introduction to my stay here. I felt so comfortable staying here that I stayed for nearly a week. The facilities are very nice , the rooms, shower and toilets are all maintained daily and have a nice level of cleanliness. The staff are also all very friendly , warm and welcoming and will treat you very nicely. If you're coming to Kathmandu , don't hesitate to stay at the Flying Yak, I can guarantee you'll like it.

Nice and clean room. Hot water and bathroom without any issue. BUT it’s very noisy. We stayed two times here (once 3 nights and than another night) and it was so laud, couldn’t have a good wholesome sleep. If you are into nightlife it’s a good option.

We stayed in both a private room and the dorm. Great value for the price in both. The mattresses and pillows are so comfortable that it's difficult to get out of bed. Very clean facilities. Breakfast was delicious. Staff very friendly and helpful.

What a wonderful stay. We loved it from the beginning to end. From the front desk staff to the managers and owners, everyone was kind and helpful. We even booked a trek through them and I can’t recommend that enough either. The location is perfect. The breakfast is tasty and filling. The price is more than fair and the showers are hot. Definitely will be back soon for more, nowhere else I would stay in Nepal.

Rooms were very nice and at a very nice price! Naveen Bohara was our check in guy and is very nice and made sure we got the right price unlike rhe Hotel Roadhouse who wanted to charge us more for being American. But other than that, the hotel was in the middle of Thamel and great walkability.

Comfortable stay in Thamel. Owner and staff are extremely helpful and also arrange treks and adventure trips. Rooms are clean and well maintained. Spacious rooms. Service is prompt and addressed well in time. Good location to stay for travel related shopping. Good restaurants and bakery nearby if one wants to experience not just regional but also continental food. A very chilled out experience.

One of the nicest and cleanest place we stayed in Nepal over the past month . Rain shower is amazing, and hot! We had places that were twice the price with little or warm showers. The location is perfect too! We stayed here , went to Chitwan and came back to stay again. Btw, the Kathi Roll just outside is definitely a good late night snack, often crowded with locals. Will definitely tell all my friends to stay here

Our stay at Flying Yak was wonderful from start to finish. The staff were extremely helpful and couldn’t do enough to help with advice and organising transport, the hotel is clean and the rooms are comfortable for a good nights sleep. Complimentary tea and coffee is always available and the Wi-Fi is great for communicating back home. When I return to Kathmandu I will most definitely be staying here again.

This place is very welcoming, clean, friendly and cozy. We went for a trek for a few days and kept our things here, knowing it stays in good hands. Afterwards we came back and stayed here a few more days and probably come back again after visiting Pokkhara.

I didn’t expect to have a such good time in the flying yak, just like at home, staff are super friendly and helpful, the Manager(should be an owner)is a handsome and funny guy. He is very passionate with the customers, treat everyone just his good friend. Hotel is clean and comfortable. The location is very convenient in the busy city area, you can find lot of different cuisines just few minutes walk. I’m highly recommend this hotel and I’ll definitely go back there next time.

Very good property and front desk was very friendly and cordial. Very clean and neatly furnished. Strongly recommend for solo and family travel stay. Charges are very reasonable and great value for what you pay I stayed in dormitory only and was very clean and organised. Above all they give you a welcome drink coffee grown in himalayas organic nature.

Small, basic but nice design room. It has everything we need. We had kind of quiet nights (there was some noise from outside but it got better by midnight) and good sleep here. The warmer/aircon also worked well. Good value.

I work for an Australian charity organisation, and staying at the Flying Yak was a great choice for our organisation: affordable, clean and secure, good wifi for zoom meetings, and centrally located with some open areas downstairs where you can work. The team are incredibly helpful.
