New Road (Nepali: नयाँ सडक, Nepal Bhasa: न्हु सडक) is the financial hub and busiest high street of Nepal. It refers to a two lane street in the center of Kathmandu, as well as the surrounding neighborhood. It is one of the busiest marketplaces in the city. Being near the midpoint of the ring road in Kathmandu, as well as the old center of Kathmandu (Kathmandu Durbar Square, also known as Basantapur, Kathmandu), it is one of the central locations in the city. New Road The road was built during the period of prime ministership Juddha Shamsher Rana after the 1934 earthquake destroyed many buildings in the Kathmandu Valley. It is formally called Juddha Sadak in his honor. The road can also be referred as old Kings Way of Nepal, as the road leads to old royal palace of Royal Families, Kathmandu Durbar Square which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The inhabitants of New Road are mostly Newars.

I have very little historical information about gate but I can assure you that this gate leads you to one of the most calming place of kathmandu (Basantapur). Location: Newroad, near sankata temple, RNAC.

Too crowded during peak hours. Clothes here are the cheapest you can find in Kathmandu with decent quality. Don't be shy to bargain.

Being near the midpoint of the ring road in Kathmandu, as well as the old center of Kathmandu (Kathmandu Durbar Square, also known as Basantapur, Kathmandu), it is one of the central locations in the city. It is one of the busiest marketplaces in the city. Here you can purchase imported luxury items of high quality. A couple of small shops on New Road are dedicated to the traditional musical instruments of Nepal - fiddles, flutes, etc. Another traditional souvenir sold here is the khukri - a traditional knife. The road was built during the period of prime ministership Juddha Shumsher Jung Bahadur Rana after the 1934 Nepal–India earthquake destroyed many buildings in the Kathmandu Valley. It was formally called Juddha Sadak in his honor. The road can also be referred as old Kings Way of Nepal, as the road leads to old royal palace of Royal Families, Kathmandu Durbar Square which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The headquarter of Nepal Airlines is located on the Eastern end of New Road, next to New Road Gate, which marks the start of New Road at the crossing with Kantipath. A statue of Juddha Shumsher Jung Bahadur Rana is located at the westernmost roundabout of the road Head offices of Gorkhapatra Sansthan and Nepal Bank Limited are also located at New Road. Bhughol Park is located on the southwestern corner of the street.

Usually a crowded and messy place. The momo is good to eat sometimes in the restaurant besides the gate. The Indian library is a peaceful place to read. There are second hand book stores too.

There's everything. The only bommer is that it's mostly a wholesale shop area. Normal shoppers have to find retailers. Other than that it's great for shopping.

Beaware of those pickpockets as it is one of the busiest and crowdest place inside Kathmandu valley. In recent days due to heavy traffic your unlucky if you are stuck at the middle of the Market. Overall its a historic place for locals as well as outsiders.

It is a place where you will find a lot of gold shops as well as electric shops. If you take right after entering through the gate, you will find a lot of shoes shop, blanket shops. The rate depends on if you need these stuff or not. If you go striaght you will reach basantapur. Enjoy your shopping at newroad!!😁😁
