Kamal Pokhari is a historic pond located in the heart of Kathmandu, Nepal. It is situated in the Kamalpokhari neighborhood, which is named after the pond. The pond was originally a natural pond that was later expanded and transformed into a man-made pond during the 17th century. It is said to have been created by the Malla king, Jayasthiti Malla, and was used for bathing and religious ceremonies. Kamal Pokhari is surrounded by a stone platform and has several small shrines and temples dedicated to various Hindu deities, including Lord Shiva and Goddess Kamala. The pond is also adorned with intricate carvings and statues of deities. Kamal Pokhari is an important cultural and religious landmark in Kathmandu, and it is especially significant during the festival of Kamala Dashain, which is celebrated in Nepal in October. During the festival, the pond is drained and cleaned, and the statues and shrines are decorated with flowers and lights. In recent years, Kamal Pokhari has undergone renovations to restore its historic structures and preserve its cultural heritage. Today, it remains a popular destination for visitors who want to experience the rich history and traditions of Nepal and is surrounded by commercial buildings and shops that have become a popular shopping destination for locals and tourists alike.

Very few people notice this holy pond during their walk through the Imadol - Lubhu road. Small pond but significant, this place deserves a lot of attention, management and preservation, message to concerned authorities of Mahalaxmi Municipality

Kamalpokhari is a lovely place to visit at night, with good lighting and a cool breeze. The presence of people around can also create a lively and social atmosphere. The combination of natural elements such as water and air with artificial lighting can create a unique and enchanting ambiance. Overall, it's a great place to spend an evening, whether you are looking for a peaceful stroll or a lively gathering with friends or family. However, it is worth noting that safety concerns should always be taken into account when visiting public spaces at night, and it is important to follow local guidelines and regulations.
