Fantastic class, Maria guides you through the spices and processes brilliantly and gives notes to take away. Cannot believe how quickly we'd made four dishes! The food tasted incredible and was great to be able to taste it all after the cooking! Maria is lovely and even helped me with my buses!! (Apparently there is a similar name class near the airport. This one is on Fort Kochi and specialises in South Indian cuisine)

I was very much looking forward to attending Maria's Cooking Class on my last visit to Fort Kochi, after reading all of the excellent reviews and am pleased to say that it lived up to and exceeded my expectations. From the onset, Maria and George made us all feel very welcome to their lovely home. She had pre-prepared all of ingredients, which meant that Maria could impart her extensive knowledge of Keralan cuisine, spices and techniques thoroughly. We were all involved in the actual cooking of the food, which included traditional South Indian Chicken and Fish curries, along with vegetable side dishes. After, we all sat together and devoured the wonderful and delicious food we had learned to cook. I gained so much invaluable information and tips from Maria, and I would thoroughly recommend her excellent classes. She also provided written recipes for each recipe.

This is hot stuff. Such an in depth knowledge of the blending of spices to create the perfect Indian flavours, including what to add or omit according to which vegetable or meat you are cooking with. Logically explained in great detail, you will come away with not just a handful of recipes but a new way to look at how you cook. Probably the best tasting Indian food I have ever had. Marvellous Maria!

The cooking class with Maria was great! With my girlfriend we spent a really good time, learning and cooking vegetarian food from the south of India. Maria knows a lot about all the ingredients, and she explained many things to us. And at the end, obviously, we loved our meals 😋 Proud of us 👌 Thank you again Maria , we'll try to do the same in France !

Maria is an excellent teacher, she’s extremely knowledgable about the different spices, their roles in North and South Indian cuisine and how they balance each other out, also depending on the vegetables you use. She gave us some notes to keep and the recipes we made. This was a great experience for us, you go into her house and cook in her kitchen and it feels very authentic. The food in the end was delicious!! Highly recommended!!

Wead a great team at Maria's cooking class. She did such a great job of teaching us the basic method of any curry. The order in which to do the steps and the different spice quantities for vegetables or meats. We enjoyed making a delicious Keralan fish curry, chicken garam masala, lemon rice a cabbage dish. We also made a sweet snack at someone's request. Highly recommend to anyone travelling through Kochi

Absolutely loved the class. Way different recipes than what we learned in the north. Everything we made was delicious and Maria gives tons of information throughout the class on the differences between north and south Indian cooking, which spices to use with which vegetables and how things need to be cooked to preserve the most flavor. Would recommend. 😊

Maria was a wonderful teacher and the most incredible cook. I am traveling alone as a 22-year-old and took the class by myself. I had a great experience learning about the local food and enjoying my time with Maria and her husband George.

Whatsapp'd Maria to book the class and she replied promptly. Class itself was really useful - Maria has lots of knowledge about spices and really teaches the foundations of South Indian cooking so you can make it at home yourself without needing a recipe. Maria is friendly and the food is delicious!

Lovely, knowledgeable woman who welcomed us into her home to learn the theory of Indian cuisine and cook a lovely meal with 5 dishes. Everything was chopped beforehand so we could spend more time on the cooking. We feel much more informed now and would love to come back and cook with her again!

It was a treat to get an exclusive lesson from such a great chef. Maria encouraged us to not be so concerned with adhering strictly to written recipes and instead to learn a more theoretical style of cookery.

Maria's South Indian cooking class is a must do experience while visiting Kochi. She is an expert on spices and how to properly balance them to make delicious dishes. She very carefully explained the recipes and cooking processes. Printed recipes were provided to take home. It was a group hands on experience. There were 8 people and we shared in the cooking duties. Overall a wonderful experience!

Maria and George are super friendly hosts and she provides very good insights into the use of spices, why and when and in combination with which other foods. She thought us 5 dishes which were super nice!

Fantastic experience. It was so lovely to meet Maria alongside her husband George. I felt very welcome in their home, and learnt so much about the key principles of South Indian cooking. Overall, it was one of the top highlights of my trip through India and I would recommend it to family and friends in a heartbeat.

Amazing experience, Maria explained a lot of cooking tips we didn't know. And the food was very good, specially the potatoes :) I recommend with closed eyes.

I have been to different cooking classes in different countries and this was without a doubt one of my favourites. Maria started the class with some very usefully theory which gives one valuable insights into Indian cooking and its general do's and don'ts. We then got some hands-on experience putting the theory into action preparing several dishes including one chicken dish, one fish, one vegetarian, and a desert/snack. The class took more than three hours including lunch time, Maria was very kind and knowledgeable and never rushed things. I asked her at the end where to buy some Tumeric roots and she was very kind to give me some fresh roots she had just recieved. This is a great experience for those visiting Fort Kochi and the cost is also very reasonable, especially when you consider the fact that you also get delicious lunch or dinner as part of the class.

Maria introduces you for 3 hours to the secrets of Kerala cuisine. You will learn to use the right spices as well as the right quantities depending on the meat or vegetable being cooked. Additionally, you will understand the order of ingredients when cooking. (Whole spices, powdered spices, garlic puree, ginger puree, grated coconut, etc.) Don’t forget to note on the recipe sheets that Maria gives you her advice. Finally, enjoy what you have prepared under the watchful eye of Maria. Price: 1000 INR per person
