This temple is noted for its historic importance. The great ' Deva mela' was hosted by this temple. The deity is Shastha, In this temple the deity is worshipped as Vasishta the Guru of Lord Sreeram. This temple is famous for its poorams and percussions.Watching around 70 plus well adorned elephants in a row is just magnificent. The live drums, trumpets and flutes creates such a thumping music magic. Wish I could attend this festival year on year. 🛵🚗 Enough parking space is available near by the temple.

This temple is believed to be more than 3,000 years old. It is believed to have been a Dravidian temple during those times and later evolved into a prominent Buddhist temple in Kerala. It came into the hands of the Hindus in the 8th century. The ancient and famous Dev Mela festival is held here. Puram is performed here on the back of 108 elephants. All the 108 elephants come from different temples. Each elephant represents a different deity. Aratupuzha Shasta will be the host. It is believed that all the gods and goddesses gather for this festival. "Ayyappan" is the main deity. It is believed that the divine presence of all the deities is present in this deity. The Shasta idol here is famous for the Shasta idol with the left leg and the right leg folded and holding the chamram, the left hand resting on the right thigh, the right leg resting on the knee and the right hand carrying the amrita kalash.

Arattupuzha Pooram has been celebrating for more than a millennium. This Pooram is done in the premises of this temple. It is inscribed in a rock inside the temple premises that in Malayalam Era 1157 Meenam 22, 1400th Pooram was celebrated. So I calculate that in 1193 Meenam 15 (2018 March 29), the 1436th Arattupuzha Pooram was celebrated here.

Must visit temple in Thrissur during Pooram days. Arattupuzha hosts one of the oldest poorams/festivals in Kerala. Pandi melam led by legendary Peruvanam was indeed an awesome experience! Pooram is really multifaceted. It might be people/rush for someone or elephants or melam. I did attend a pooram after 6/7 years, I guess. So it was indeed a visual treat for me!

Arattupuzha Temple is a place that holds a special place in my heart. As a child, I used to visit this serene and beautiful Hindu temple located in the Thrissur district of Kerala every Saturday. The tranquility of this ancient temple was always mesmerizing. The atmosphere was always filled with positive energy, and it made me feel calm and peaceful. The history of Arattupuzha Temple dates back 3000 years, and it has been hosting the famous Devamela festival for a long time now. During this festival, all gods and goddesses assemble at Arattupuzha, making it one of the most significant festivals in our village. The deity of this temple is believed to be the embodiment of the divine potential of Guru Vasishta, the kulaguru of Raghu vamsha, and Master of Srirama and his brothers. One of the things that I love about Arattupuzha Temple is its architecture. The intricate designs and carvings on the walls and pillars are awe-inspiring. The temple's main shrine is a magnificent sight to behold, and the surrounding gardens add to its beauty. If you plan to visit Arattupuzha Temple, make sure to attend the Arratupuzha Pooram festival. This festival is the highlight of the year for us, and it truly showcases our village's culture and traditions. The festival is a colorful spectacle, accompanied by the sound of traditional music and decorated elephants. It's an experience that will stay with you forever. In conclusion, visiting Arattupuzha temple is more than just a religious experience. It's an opportunity to immerse yourself in the rich history and culture of our village while also experiencing the serenity of this ancient temple.

It's really big festival of kerala, place or town called arratpuzha. Near Thrissure...it's really gathering of all elephants over here, if u like to see elephants , this festival is awesome...for people who don't know it might be same like people are playing music and 15 elephants in line above them, some are standing on elephants raising umbrella....but actually active people of kerala should explain each step of this festival whether at website or at boards near temple....like why elephants coming in batches and king elephants will come last at 1 am in night etc....

  • 4/5 Chandran K K. 4 years ago on Google
Swamiye saranam Ayyappa:::.Sree Arattupuzha Sastha is the mediator for Arattupuzha Pooram one of the oldest (more than 1400 years old). Pooram celebrated in Thrisoor dt. just like Vadakkumnathan in the Thrisoor Pooram. Importance is that about 60 elephants decorated come to meet The Deity Sasthavu and the attraction is that in the dawn these elephants came parallel to the God Sun and the rays came directly to these decorated elephants, the spectators enjoy this Devasangamam once in a year. The main leader in this sangamam is Thriprayar Thevar with his Security Guard. The main identification of the Thrisoorkkar is Caption with a Towel. But here this Caption is not allowed by the Security Guard of Thriprayar Thevar. Wonderful experience in a lifetime to see and participate in the Arattupuzha Pooram.
