Jumma Mosque, one of the oldest mosque in India with heavy influence of dravidian architecture. It was built in 628–630 AD and was re-constructed in 1036 AD. Now still standing with amost 1000 years of history under its belt. It offers Jummah prayer and eid prayers as well.

400 years old,Jumna Masjid, Keelakkarai

It's very interesting to know the history of this mosque. King Serhupathi of Ramnad assigned his minister Vallal Seethakkarhi to build a Temple in Rameswaram. After the temple works are completed Vallal asked the King if he could build one more temple elsewhere with the remaining stones crafted for the temple. For this the king replied Vallal to build a Mosque in Kilakarai which is Vallal's birthplace. This shows the religious harmony and respect each had towards one another.

A contemporary masjid to Rameswaram temple, both built by the famous Seethakathi under the aegis of the Ramanathapuram ruler Sethupathi. A must visit place iñ Kilakarai.
