I went to this place today. I couldn't find the gents so in a rush I darted in the disabled. An employee was in there as he didn't lock the door & I caught him just finishing. He darted straight out after. He didn't wash his hands & when I was done I had to tell him the soap dispenser was empty & the dryer wasn't working. Just great seems as its a restaurant

Beautifully presented delicious food especially the chez mumtaj dessert platter. Loved the experience thoroughly although felt the chicken main dish could have been better in flavour but it's okay rest of the dishes were great. They also gave us complimentary vegetable samosa. There is free parking opposite to this place for one hours.

Really nice restaurant, staff are welcoming and the dishes are really tasty. I had the soft shell crab for starters and that was full of flavour and crispy then I had the beef with a truffle oil mash, that was amazing. The truffle oil really made the dish. My girlfriend also had the black cod for her main and that too was also cooked perfectly with and interesting curry and Mango sauce. Definitely worth a try.

Terrible service absolutely shocking. Food served cold. food is very average too there are far better places locally. They reduced my bill by 25% but to be honest I really didn't want to pay. Left most of my food.

Best Indian food in St. Albans. They are not the cheapest but quality wise you get what you pay for. We also did collection and it is great food every time.

Very classy atmospheric place. All elegant but service timing can be better not to say anything was wrong in the first place. Food on the whole was excellent Will come back for sure. The head waiter Farooq was very good and professionally aquired by your side. Well done

Very tasty chicken tikka, duck samosa, and paneer starters, Lamb curry was tasty but quite tough. Tomato rice was good. Only looses a star because it took a long time to have our orders taken.

Tried this place for the first time and was pleasantly surprised. My lamb was so tender and the spice level was perfect. Naan bread was amazing too and not much to complain about. Service from Rahim (might have wrong name) was excellent. Will definitely return.

Fantastic food, in the heart of St Albans. Highly recommend! Only down side is there are no high chairs for children and nowhere to change them, we were lucky and went on a quiet night, but apart from this, a great time had by all and the staff are great!

High-end Indian restaurant situated on London Road close to town in St Albans. Lovely interior with crisp white table cloths, luxurious ambience and good service . The food was nice. We had the Mumtaz salad ( excellent), salted lassi, coriander naan ( soft and light), prawns ( very good quality), biryani, lemon rice and spinach with paneer. The spinach was amazing, unlike any we have had before in an Indian restaurant. To end, we had mango brulee also very good. This is one of the best Indian restaurants that St. Albans has to offer. Would visit again. Nice place for a celebration

Wonderful place to experience Indian food in st Alban's. We found this gem of a place through its high ratings and many awards. The staff are really nice and cater to your needs. The food was well presented and tasted authentic. Cocktails where superbly made. The decor is classy. The only bad point I have to say is as I came late I could tell the staff were eager to close up and go home , and I understand. I will definitely be back

Another outstanding meal as always! Cannot recommend this place highly enough. Easily the best curry place we’ve ever been to.

I went there for my first time and I noticed the place was totally empty, it took a while to understand if they had a table for two and eventually got something. In general food was good, bottle of wine starts from 25 GBP and ended up to be about 35 GBP each. The dinner place was too big, at least you would think it was from looking outside, and they had a small bar place at the entrance. I might go back to try the bar but food was a be it expensive.

Great food and very good service. Reasonable price. Not very atmospheric when we visited but it was early evening. Recommended it.

Excellent food, great environment, attentive and friendly service. Great all round restaurant and one of the best Indian restaurants I’ve been to in the UK. Familiar dishes to those I ate in India, so really nice authentic food as well as some of the familiar dishes too. Absolutely recommend a visit!

The staff always make you feel very welcome, the place itself is stylish, always spotless and there is plenty of room between tables. The food has always been excellent, not your traditional British curry house thankfully, with a delicious variety of flavours and styles. It's one of St Alban's best restaurants.

Absolutely incredible, everything single dish all the way down the the naan was exceptional. Honestly no other Indian restaurant even comes close to the standard set by Chez Mumtaj. Exquisite!

Excellent Indian restaurant. I've been a few times and the food has always been delicious. A lot of innovative dishes which you don't typically see. Portion sizes were good. Tiger prawns were really big and delicious and the Lamb Xacutti was probably my favourite, a truly tasty but unique flavour and tender pieces of lamb.

We were at my husband master's award ceremony at the Abbey. We went out for a celebratory meal, so we popped into Chez and the amboise was amazing. This has been one of the most enjoyable Indians meals we've had, which had an award winning 2018 curry Chef 👨‍🍳 and it was obvious whilst eating the food. The staff were amazing and helpful. We ordered a mixture of meat and veg dishes to share and we really 💯 enjoyed it. The food came quick and was so tasty and every mouth full was satisfying, so if you want a great experience please come here. We would definitely visit again. 🍗🍚🍲

Food and wine were excellent. We shared the fish platter and chicken tikka for starter. Lamb shank rogan josh and monkfish curry for main. All were yummy!

What an appalling customer service. The manager does not know how to deal with customers. I tried to book this restaurant for my birthday two weeks before but the manager Rahman was unhelpful and arrogant. This fool wanted me to prebook food for all of my guests and individually ask them what they wanted to eat on the night. I’m wondering if he would have asked an English customer to do the same? Thank God we didn’t have my birthday at this awful place. We found something amazing in Harpenden and they truly made my birthday special not to mention all my guests had a blast!!!

Have been coming to Chez Mumtaz for 4 years on our Anniversary. Not had 1 bad dish and I recommend the family room for any small occasions. Good food and drinks with great environment and decor.

Great place for a celebration meal. We went for a wedding anniversary. Staff were great and the food was lovely. Unfortunately we went on an evening when a private party was booked, so had to wait a long time for our main course. Staff were very apologetic.
