One of the must visit places when you come to townvilles. You can either drive up the lookout point or you can park your car halfway and have some exercise to walk up there. It will take around an hour up there, once you are up you will hit your 10k steps for the day too. Up here you can basically see the whole townvilles and see the magnetic island from the lookout point too It's chill and windy of course. There are few lookout points but all are pretty accessible. Overall, yes it is a must visit place and it doesn't take a long time if you are in hurry

Was going to hike up but glad I didn't as for some people it might be a better experience to drive up and it was in the end as there's multiple short walks up top with a beautiful central area to sit at and take group pictures but we all walked every path in every direction from the carpark and it's all free and definitely needs to be visited to look at these views if your staying or going on holiday in Townsville. A couple of more general info boards to read whilst walking the multiple paths about the hills history would've been good but you can find it all online easy enough but there's still a fort up there so like the other forts I visited nearby, it would've just given me more of a personal feel of the area I reckon.

I know there are already hundred of reviews of this place on here, but hey I'll just add another one cause it really is pretty cool and very easy to get to and best of all is for free. There are also multiple viewing platforms form different areas and there are public toilets as well. Also, not being from here I found it good to be able to get a bird's eye view from up here to get a guide to where everything was and how to get to it all. Definitely heap up and take a look if you are new to the area.

Outstanding views, very lucky timing the weather just right for perfect viewing conditions across the water to Magnetic Island.. Good vibes and friendly, active fitness community, shaded space, water tap and doggy bags available there for free for my dog that's travelling with me.

The drive up was stunning and scary at the same time as there were many people walking and riding bikes so we had to watch them as well as cars coming in the opposite direction. The view was absolutely stunning. Was so glad we went up there and there is no charge. It was very windy when we went so hold onto your hats but definitely well worth visiting.

Beautiful views both east and west, amazing to visit n great place if you love running but bring plenty of drinking water especially during wet season as humidity is high n you can dehydrate very quickly, be prepared for a long hot run up the hill but a easier down hill trek where you stop for a drink and take in the amazing vista's πŸ™‚

A steep drive up Castle Hill gives great views all around Townsville. It was quite busy when we were there with the car park pretty full. The toilets weren’t the best but were usable. There are a number of tracks that can be taken to see the various sides of Townsville as well as gorgeous views out to the islands.

Great views from the top! Went at 7am before it got too hot and was the perfect time to do it. Plenty of others also doing the hike/walk up all those stairs. A very good (sweaty) exercise and great way to cleanse the body of the night before. I was surprised how friendly everyone was, everyone says hello to each other which is great. Very different to melbourne. Took me 1 hour 15min from town to hike up and down and was 6km exactly

Great spot to get a sense of place. You can see the advantages of Castle Hill during no the war. We did a full tour of Townsville from there, spotting places like V8 track, Cowboys stadium, hospital, etc. we had a nice breeze keeping it cool. Many people walking along the road to the top, drivers need to be careful too.

Great lookout, that has the potential to be so much more. Average views of a small city, with a narrow windy road approaching the top. Wasn’t blown away by this lookout and probably wouldn’t go back. Would make for an incredible exercise track though. My highlight was the old watch station.

It is absolutely amazing and a must do if you are visiting Townsville. There are so many different viewing locations to give a full 360-degree view. Parking space is available at the top but more available just a few meters before the main location. Highly recommended.

It is a gruelling walk, with many different options, we followed castle hill road as we were told that was the best to take in the views, then we came down the Goat track. I’m so not fit but it was a great achievement walking from our hotel to the top and back in just under 3 hours. Make sure you take water. The views are amazing. For those who can’t walk up, you can drive to the top.

The site to visit when in Townsville! Gorgeous views from the top. I recommend hiking up the goat track, to get the rewarding feel at the lookout, but driving is possible as well if you don't want to get sweaty. There are three different lookouts so you have a great view for both sunrise and sunset.

Our favorite spot in Townsville so far! You can walk (not very easy), you can cycle or you can just come by car.. there are three main lookouts with a little easy walk but you will get an almost 360 degrees view of the town if you visit the 3 of them with views over the town, airport and even Maggie Island. A must in Townsville!!

We went to the top of all view vantage points. Amazing views and it does get busy at the top. Parking wise. But its beutiful to see magnetic island from Townsville. Wheel chair accessible once your at the top.

Great place to walk. I would recommend walking up the staircase and going down the roadside. There is limited parking so head there early in the morning. Beautiful view once your at the top, there are toilets at the top with a water fountain and tracks that lead to other view points.

Stunning easy walk. Absolutely beautiful view of Townsville. Worth it ! Make sure you go for the walks to the lookouts. Different views of the city awaits. Loved it. Breathtaking!

Walk up anytime. Early morning was my favourite. The road is shared with cars so if you don’t wish to walk you can go the quick way to the top and the views!

Be prepared for a 800 steps staircase climbed up a rather steep slope. But magnificent views at the summit are worth the efforts!

Beautiful round the mountain view of Townsville, loved seeing the winding river AND ocean all in one spot. Cute Little walks under 300m, lots of stairs and wind. All around perfect spot to show your tourists friends (aka me).

Walking the pathway is an awesome early morning challenge - 440 stairs and then walking to the top. Many people of all ages do the walk - some even run. Morning views are spectacular.

Beautiful walk with the road for less mobile walkers. A few different routes up and down. I had a great time doing the walk for sunset and than walking down in twilight.

Beautiful views of Townsville from the top. Great exercise walking all the way up, but there are a lot of stairs to get all the way up there. If you are short on time while in Townsville or have difficulty going up a lot of stairs, driving up to the lookout is also an option.

The city's highest peak offers a panoramic view of Townsville. It's especially breathtaking during sunrise or sunset, showcasing a spectacular and picturesque landscape.

Hadn't been up here since the eighties. Brought back fond memories pity the restaurant is gone.Hopefully something will replace it. A popular place for fitness and people to get a gist of the size of Townsville and watch the sunrise and sunsets. Townsville is so much bigger than I remember

Great walk, take the stairs easy on the way down if your knees aren't great, water at the top but definitely needed to carry some due to the heat

Great views and photo opportunities at this lookout. Sunset is spectacular. The drive up is a little rough at times and there are many bikes and walkers to navigate around.

It's a great hike to Castle Hill lookout, worth the hike as the views are breathtaking regardless of the time of the day! from the lookout point. Pack your picnic bag and watch the sunset or sunrise, you will not regret this.

Walked up the goat track. Interesting, heaps of stairs. Experienced walkers probably preferred. Otherwise the drive up to some amazing views over Townsville out to Magnetic Island. Well worth the walk/drive.

Great view, a good place to train stamina and ends up with a refreshing air and great view of the whole of Townsville

Quick pit stop from Magnetic Island ferries to Bowen. Easy drive up. Best views of Townsville in every direction. Toilets and water up the very top.

Walked from the bottom of the hill via the Goat Track. A lot of stairs, but well worth the views up top. Toilets, water etc available. Also pleasantly surprised to find a black carpenter bee, the largest bee I've seen in Australia.

If you are looking to walk up the road way for the hike instead of one of the tracks to see the sunrise, I'd recommend that you get there at least 75 mins before sunrise to be able to get a park. Is a very active place but well worth it

  • 4/5 Kirsty O. 1 year ago on Google
What a great view all the way around the hill. There's a walking path 250m long with some stairs but not a strenuous walk which gives you a birds eye view in every direction of Townsville. Not wheel chair/ Walker friendly. It's free so make the most of a free attraction

The most recommended attraction in Townsville! Offers a panoramic view of the entire city. A must-visit spot, truly worth it!

  • 5/5 Craig οΏ½. 10 months ago on Google
Gorgeous views from any of the lookout spots around the crest. Drive up was longer than I initially thought but the road was wide enough that it was never an issue. Only problem was everyone walking up the roads, waiting for incoming traffic to pass so I could drive around then was slightly annoying.

  • 5/5 Albany B. 1 year ago on Google
Quite a climb in the heat but worth it once you get to the top. Amazing views across Townsville . Make sure to bring plenty of water and sunscreen as there isn't much shade on the way up.

  • 5/5 Yoshi S. 1 year ago on Google
Such an amazing place and little else like it in Far North Queensland that's accessible to everyone. Drive it or walk it. Toilets at the top with a beautiful viewing area before you get to the top. I could see myself going here at all different times of the day/night to truly appreciate the experiences of the views
