I learnt so much here about the history of not only Kenya, but also other African countries such as Ethiopia, Nigeria, Sierra Leone and others. Very beautiful and well equipped. For only Ksh.50/= you get to enter Archives and learn history and also photos are allowed. If you haven't visited this place, would definitely recommend that you do especially if you love learning about history.

This is a common country symbol for every country. Show cases national heritage, history as well as prominent people both politically and other life facets. It's quite magnificent but it could be better if we pull a page from Ethiopians and Tanzanians.

Great collection of Kenyan and African historical artifacts and documents. Needs more light however and more events to let people know that it is open. General public is encouraged to donate items from their homes that could have historical value for display and preservation.

I love that this landmarks acts like a compass for those who usually get lost while walkin around the streets of Nairobi City. Located at a very strategic point . The surrounding environment outside the building oftenly over crowded. But sometimes its not as secure as you would expect it,don't trust anyone you see walkin beside you.

The entrance fee is affordable and it's a good place to learn more about the history of the various cultures in Kenya and Africa, and even leaders dating back to before Kenya got her independence. The only downside is there is no guide to explain the various cultures that have been represented or even the history.

More Kenyans should visit this historical archive. It celebrates African art showcasing sculptures, carvings & paintings from different Kenyan communities & other African nations. It's also a window to the past with photos of Kenya's colonial history. The staff were friendly and willing to share information about exhibits. Entry is an affordable 50/- for Kenyan adults. Note that Saturday closing time is indicated as 12noon online but it closes at 4pm. If you have a large bag you will have to leave it at the reception so plan accordingly. The lighting could be better but overall its worth a visit for both young and old.

One of those popular meeting places in Nairobi but never once think of going inside. A landmark and direction compass for many. You will be surprised at how magnificent the place is. Well preserved over the years. Price is 50ksh for citizens, remember to carry you ID. If you ever wondered about the history of Africa and Kenyan community then it's worth giving it a try. A mini version of the national museum but with updates history.

Introduction The Kenya Archive collections include archival material, many once confidential, of the colonial and post-colonial government of Kenya up to the early 1960's. "They provide a full account of the social, political, economic, and religious problems of development in equatorial Africa". (Foreword, v.) Documents within the collection also include a large number of microfilm reels of newspapers, journals, and papers of assorted associations. Syracuse University is one of two repositories of the complete microfilm collection of the Kenya National Archives of materials up to the time of independence from colonial rule in Kenya. The other collection is owned by the Center for Research Libraries (CRL) in Chicago.

A landmark in Nairobi Central Business District. Always busy with lots of people. Extremely cheap entrance charges to get inside. They do not allow photos to be taken inside the National Archives. Spare some minutes and get inside and view for yourself heritage you cannot get anywhere else other than in this building. An iconic structure nevertheless.

It would be injustice to walk in Nairobi town and fail to Notice this building where our Country's history can be accessed. Many people have a tendency to use it as a landmark while giving directions or as a place to easily meet up then proceed to their destinations in town. There is definitely much to appreciate from the collection of various aspects of the Kenyan History. Plan a visit and learn more about Kenya.

One of the Iconic buildings in Nairobi city. It houses cultural heritage documents, artefacts, photographs, curvings and cultural instruments. • 3/5 Lawrence 1 year ago on Google
Its a nice place to learn basic historical information ( for normal citizens) It's even more useful for researchers. However, there's not much to it considering how big it is ( normal citizen's perspective); most of the items in the building belonged to west African communities. There were a handful of Kenyan historical items. Some areas have been closed off to the public. Other areas have empty display cabins. The walls and the historical items they enclosed were so dusty, I couldn't help but sneeze during my entire visit. Don't even get me started on how dirty the floors were. To whom ever is in charge, I know a lot of unemployed people who would be happy to work as janitors at affordable prices. ( I hope they will not be required to bring their CVs). The guard at the gate ( young man) is very arrogant. I recommend that he asks his brothers at 316 chambers about basic etiquette and customer service. Not everyone is a recruit at a Watchmen camp. The Archives doesn't have a till number. Just because it's called Archives doesn't mean that it should not be open to digital transactions. Next time I might come and give entry fees with coral shells as currency. The Nairobi Gallery at GPO is 10 times better. Regardless of its size (Nairobi Gallery), there was more content to it. The place was clean, people in there were friendly from the gate to the receptionist and also the tour guides, who I never saw in the archives. I can now confidently say I wouldn't have incurred any loss had I decided to eat mandazi and mturaa instead of giving the receptionist my entry fee. The Kenya National Archives can do better if more historical items were added to it's collection, interior renovation and also working on issues already mentioned.

The place was amazingly beautiful. I've never been there before. The interior is beautiful compared to the exterior. The artifacts have been well preserved...Most people don't visit this place. Its viewed as a landmark. I would urge you to make time gather a few friends and visit this place 😎😎

I recently visited the Kenya National Archives Documentation Center, and I must say that my experience exceeded expectations. This place is a treasure trove of historical information and a must-visit for anyone interested in Kenya's rich heritage. First, the staff at the center were incredibly knowledgeable and helpful. They guided me through the vast collection of documents, photographs, and artifacts, answering all my questions with enthusiasm and expertise. Their passion for preserving and sharing Kenya's history was evident, and their assistance made my visit even more enjoyable. The documentation center itself is well-organized and easily accessible. The materials are neatly categorized, making it convenient to find specific documents or explore different topics. The archives are properly maintained, ensuring the preservation of these valuable records for future generations. I was particularly impressed by the extensive range of resources available. Whether you're interested in colonial history, the struggle for independence, cultural heritage, or any other aspect of Kenya's past, the center offers a wealth of materials to delve into. I spent hours engrossed in old photographs, letters, newspapers, and government records, gaining a deeper understanding of the country's journey. Another aspect that stood out to me was the effort put into digitizing certain documents. This allows for easier access and preservation, as well as enabling researchers and students from around the world to explore Kenya's history remotely. The center's commitment to embracing technology while preserving traditional archival methods is commendable. The ambiance of the center was tranquil and conducive to study and research. It provided a peaceful environment where I could immerse myself in the past. The facilities were well-maintained, and the reading areas were comfortable, making it an ideal place to spend hours immersed in history. The Kenya National Archives Documentation Center is not only a valuable resource for researchers but also an educational destination for students. The center offers guided tours and educational programs that cater to different age groups, fostering an appreciation for Kenya's history among the younger generation. In conclusion, I highly recommend visiting the Kenya National Archives Documentation Center. It is a remarkable institution that preserves and showcases Kenya's historical legacy. The knowledgeable staff, extensive collection of documents, and well-maintained facilities create an exceptional experience for history enthusiasts and researchers alike. I am grateful for the opportunity to explore Kenya's past at this outstanding facility.

I visited this place 2x. One was a school student and most recently as a researcher. I was doing research for a friend coming to visit Kenya. Now, I am not big on history or documentaries but the place is so epic and rich in history and ambience. Please please check the place out whenever you can. It's cheap to go, and full of nice people. No taking much pictures.
