Itโ€™s a nice touring destination for researchers and those interested in learning Kenyaโ€™s history. Membership is paid annually to gain full access of research materials. I was a bit disappointed as I wished to view Kenyaโ€™s first constitution but was notified it remains a government secret to-date though the original constitution 2010 is available on site but locked in a compartment.

It's a perfect landmark anyone can get familiar with around the CBD, it's crowded and busy at the outside premises, but the inside is just cool and calm, I loved the reception in there, a lot of Kenyan history is preserved here, just excellent

This is a historic building in the heart of Nairobi City. There is lots of information on the history and cultures of different tribes and important persons in Kenya. It is right across the road from the Hilton hotel in Nairobi. It is situated in between 2 busy streets in the CBD which are Tom |Mboya Street and Moi avenue. Accessibility to this place can at times be a pain considering the heavy CBD traffic of pedestrians as well as motor vehicles..

  • 3/5 Tony M. 3 years ago on Google
Nairobi's favorite CBD landmark, or at leat in the top three. I have interestingly never gone inside the actual Archives, but I recognise its importance for all of us who have to give directions and we're once given directions from this vital place. Hoping to visit the actual Archives soon though and not just wait for people outside it's gate. One of these fine days.

You will learn much about the Railway history in Kenya when it began in 1896 from Mombasa on the Kenya on the Indian Ocean to Kisumu on the eastern shore of Lake Victoria in 1901, the hardship and death that met the builders of the railway is well captured and documented in the museum โ€”including that of the man-eating lions at Tsavo plains which claimed over 134 victims. Afterwards you can go explore the locomotives which are accessible including the cabins. You will also love the murals that all of the museum contributed mainly by local artists. This is a place I would recommend for a #date, #explorers and #photographers #photographysite

It is a hidden gem right in the city. The smell of old engine oil can be smelt though faint. It takes you back to a time when life was simpler and the locomotive was the most advanced piece of technology. These great beasts that lay the foundation of colonisation. It only costs Kshs 150 for adults and kids over 12 years. Kids under 2 years entry is free.

This Place is extremely vivid to visit. A tourist is welcomed by the statue of Thomas Mboya, the veteran who facilitated the student airlift Program for students to study abroad. Inside the Building, there are lots of wonderful history that one can learn from. However, I will not advise anyone to idle around the Statue, of course, there are so many idlers there, be cautious.

National Archives in Moi Avenue, apart from serving the purpose it was meant for, is an important landmark. When I first came to Nairobi, the National Archives would act as my compass bearing. I would walk around all I wanted but not to lose the sence of direction where this building stands. From it, I knew the stage where I was to board the bus, meet people or find important streets and avenues. I'm yet to enter inside of it but it is imposing from the outside.

Kenya National Archives and is situated at the edge of the central business district in downtown Nairobi along Moi Avenue next to Ambassadeur Hotel. The archives look out on the landmark Hilton Hotel, while on the rear side is Tom Mboya street. It was established in 1965 in a building that initially housed the Kenya Commercial Bank. It holds 40,000 volumes. It was established by an Act of the Parliament of Kenya in 1965 and was placed under the office of the Vice President and the Minister of Home Affairs. It is currently under the office of the Vice-President and State Department for National Heritage and Culture. The Kenya National Archives building also houses the Murumbi Gallery which contains African artifacts that were collected in the 19th century

The National Archives is located in the Central Business District (CBD) of Nairobi City along Moi Avenue, opposite The Hilton Hotel. Outside the Archives is a beehive of activities. The building is also an Archive with old unique and admirable architectural designs from the door to outside. The rich History of Kenya and other African countries is found here in form of artifact, literature and one to one narration by the staff who also take you through explaining about the collected items in detail and from which country the item originates from. We were also shown the library where you can read and research. Massive knowledge hub especially on our country Kenya. The history begins from colonial era to date. A very educative place and also interesting to just visit, as native or tourist. We enjoyed the visit.

Payment process is cumbersome visitors have to pay via eCitizen. Some of the collections are dusty not properly maintained. But it's Kes 50 entrance fee so can't complain much. It's worthwhile if idle.
