Very good location. Staff were AMAZING. Rooms were nice, but the bathrooms need updating. More Gambian Dishes please. The coconut trees need trimming and shaking to drop loose branches and coconuts!

I chose to leave this hotel due to being extensively bitten by bed bugs. I informed the reception of this and they changed my room however when I asked for a discount or if they could offer some form of compensation as I had a long stay the manager came and said he will not give me anything as it was already in the system and he could not change it. He offered me free late check out but I didn’t need a late checkout as I was already packed and ready to leave. This is a very disingenuous response as any system can be amended and altered. The same way data is input it can be changed. I am not stupid. However due to the lack of grace I have decided to let people know my honest experience. WiFi only works at the Bar. It doesn’t work in the rooms. It doesn’t work at reception. Only sitting at the bar. If you are coming here bring your own towels as the towels provided are raggedy and have various stains on them. Toilet roll and bar hand soap is provided but that’s it. The TV may not work - as was the case in my bedroom and it’s local channels. The fridge may also not work. Sometimes the water pressure is low or the shower will distribute brown water randomly. depending on whew your room is the ocean can be quite loud and you hear this all evening so it can feel hard to fall asleep. There is no kettle or tea facilities provided in the rooms and depending on how your room is placed is it can be slightly dark inside so the mirrors are slightly redundant. The bathroom is small about 1m by 2m in total size so when you use the shower water will fill the floor. There is no shower curtain. There is no bath. The sink has a mirror with a light but it’s pretty useless and not strong. The taps and rails are rusty sometimes rusty so hanging towels on them isn’t appealing. My cousin came to stay with me and we both felt the water is also very hard… I’m not sure why. It makes your skin feel dry after washing. Most of the staff I met at the bar and reception were extremely polite and courteous. Mohammed at the Bar was my favourite, and alot of the waiters were very friendly. The staff and grounds were probably the highlight of my stay here. Same with housekeeping and gardening team, all very polite and friendly. I have now stayed at 3 different types of location in Gambia so I feel it’s a nuetral perspective. Overpriced hotel , medium hotel and now an apartment. It’s a peaceful area, kayak, bike rental, snack shop and restaurants are within walking distance. Supermarket is 25 min walking distance. Green taxis outside but if you keep the number of any yellow taxi you meet you can call them to come and pick you from the hotel easily. Hotel has a lounge. Breakfast from 8-10am. Breakfast is okay, fresh pancake, fresh egg, beans, bacon, chicken sausage, oats, bread, fruit, cheeses, coffee, juice, potstoe wedges. Sweet cakes also and other desserts. The same as the other overpriced hotel I stayed in. The bar menu for drinks and food is okay sometimes they don’t have some things but it’s varied. Prices are still expensive compared to local food. For example. Singapore noodles on the hotel is 300 but in the Chinese restaurant up the road is maybe 200. And if you go to a local food shop you maybe pay 100. Bottle of water is 80 at the hotel but in the local shop will be about 30 There is entertainment of singer or dancers sometimes till 10pm. There is also a onsite snack shop, well stocked gift shop that’s reasonably priced and a jewellery stand near the pool. The sea view is nice but it gets a little windy. Easy access to the beach. It’s also not obvious or clear where to buy phone credit so if you come to stay I would reccomend using an App called Recharge. You can buy phone credit on there for any Gambian sim and pay via card or PayPal. There is a currency change on site but no ATM.

I am currently staying at this hotel and firstly as it has been said you cannot fault the staff, they will do their very best, polite and welcoming. The hotel itself is very basic, has what you need but is begging for an upgrade, again, I think this has been said, it is doing itself a mis service in the current state. The rooms are fine, but everything could do with a big deep clean and replace or just rip out and start again. The food is good, fish and chicken both nice, no matter which day, drinks however, none cold, weak carbonated drinks and lower shelf spirits, not much on offer in the way of cocktails, they have never been taught I have no doubt. The owner could really invest some money and this hotel would outshine many. The glass around the pool area is in need of a professional clean. The whole place is not as clean as I would be happy with and I constantly have to be using hand sanitiser, The staff work hard and the gardens are beautiful, it's a really good set up but so so desperate for a full makeover. Location is good, on the beach, quiet, craft market nearby, taxi service outside, not too far from the senegambia strip. So, just an update, thinking I only pointed out negative things, I am a bit fussy when it comes to cleanliness, don't misunderstood, they do clean often, the staff again, can't be faulted, wonderful, food was all good, I was happy with what was on offer tbh. I loved the bungalow style accommodation, really spacious. The beach is beautiful, the lovely creek, honestly everything considered, price, service, location, I would consider a return to this hotel, The Gambia itself definite return!

After the initial disappointment of our room we soon became enchanted by the quaintness of the place. The grounds are beautiful and immaculate, so well cared for and manicured. The staff are all totally brilliant, so attentive and ready to help in every way. The food selection is slightly limited due to the size of the hotel. They haven't got the luxury of size which brings economy of scale. That said, the payoff is getting a more personal relationship with the staff as you get to know them all by name and they get to know you. Outside the hotel the people are so friendly and considering how poor everyone is they are always smiling and happy. We could learn a lot from them.

I was disappointed at first as it was not what I expected. I thought we would be in a proper hotel. Instead, we had a room which was chalet/bungalow style in the grounds. The staff across the board are amazing and genuinely friendly. All the meals were of good quality with ample choice. The food being buffet style was seldom hot. Loved the gardens and closeness to the beach. It did take a couple of nights to get used to the Crickets and sound of the waves breaking on the beach. The whole place is in need of some maintenance. Especially around the pool area. I enjoyed our holiday but No wow factor to bring me back.

Good hotel by Gambian standards, comfortable room with fridge and air-conditioning,ours was a bungalow style right by the beach. Food selection ok drinks not so much maybe. Didn't go thirsty or hungry and water dispensers available 24/7.Staff all ok . Pool area busy and you have to be out with your towel and a few Dalasi tip to get parasols . Beach nice but plagued with sellers which becomes a little tedious when you are trying to relax. It's our 3rd time to the Gambia and noticeably being lied to more by the sellers and stupidly imo charging more than the local shop at the craft market a few hundred metres away. Yes they are a poor people but overcharging and lying is not going to help. It's a good hotel with money exchange in reception area, bring cash and change it (safe in room) as 5% charge on card usage.

Great place to stay , with really good food, friendly staff, make sure to triple check when you exchange real money for dalasi in this place, also avoid the Ali baba special( the Africana clothing vendor) Don’t give them any business. And definitely don’t get them to make anything for you .

Away from the main tourist resort, quiet location, on the beach but the creek beside the hotel makes the beach inaccessible to the left with the tides. The quiet location, however, was spoilt for me by the noisy generator that ran all night behind my room. Room basic but cool and clean. Small, dated bathroom, good shower. Staff were wonderful in the main, although one or two were persistently inappropriate....expect hassle when out and about, but not great in the hotel. Other staff made up for it with friendliness, professional service and helping whenever they could. Food...breakfast ok although breads and pastries weren't fresh and the fruit choice was repetitive and uninspiring. For a non all inclusive guest, the a la carte menu was mostly bland European food, often not available and generally not served hot. That all being said, it's Africa, not Europe, and I felt relaxed and accepting whilst at Sunset Beach Hotel, and enjoyed my stay.

This place is heaven, right on the beach, the staff are super friendly and can't do enough for you.will definitely return . Food options are a bit basic ,however fish and chichen are very good quality, Very near the bird sanctuary and away from the hustle and bustle of senegambia, perfect for a relaxed stay.

Great place to visit for quite a short flight of 6 hours, the staff were brilliant and very happy! Food was really good, not a massive selection but good enough. The pools were nice but could do with being warmer. Almost on the beach, could hear the waves crashing from the room but hardly anyone used it, needed some water sports or sun loungers on it to make it more appealing. Was close to monkey and crocodile Park so a quick taxi drive and you were there, both I would recommend. Also a beach pub if you fancied a walk down for reggae night on a Friday. If you have old clothes or anything else take them as the locals are really grateful of anything you can donate to them. The rooms were quite basic but you only sleep there so that's all you need. Great weather in the 30's so great for a nice relaxed holiday!

If you are looking for a low budget place to go and hang out, this is your spot. It is reasonably priced and has a nice view. They could really use a chef that knows how to make a pizza. The staff is very friendly, signature Gambian smiles on all their faces.

It was ok: not my first choice of hotel. The rooms are a bit outdated and need a refresh. We had to ask for it to be cleaned after we checked in. It’s good for people who have a small budget. Pros breakfast is included and it’s close to a beach.

I was saying at the hotel during a work trip the hotel itself is nice, no frills but clean and quiet. However, I was verbally aggressed by the receptionist when trying to pay by visa or by chaque, which required by my company for accountability purposes. He kept saying it was my faut if I could not pay and that i should have warbed the hotel in advance. There is no mention of this policy in booking nor on the hotel website. Instead of trying to resolved the issue, the receptionist raise his voice and insulted me casfound . Though I u

On arrival we found the hotel, room and restaurant to be good, and staff were friendly, But I was soon to be aware a breach in the hotel security, a few days before we arrived a couple had been attacked and robbed by knife point in their hotel room at night. We weren’t given any reassurance from the hotel management nor the travel representation at this time. I felt unsafe at night and slept poorly.

We had the most perfect holiday. Accommodation was lovely, we were in the bungalows. Food very good Khalifa and Lamin wonderful. Waiters exceptional, so look out for Bacs, Booba, Agustine and especially Noah, he will help with anything you need. The beach was clean and full of amazing interesting people selling. The barstaff lovely can't mention them all. It's well worth a visit, 6 hour flight, same timeline, safe, and very relaxed. There are several good places to visit, the monkey park and crodiles and the Roots trip. Oh and don't forget to go on the ferry to Banjul, it's an experience.

Lovely pool and friendly staff but food is just not good, I’m glad I didn’t choose the all inclusive option because it’s better to eat elsewhere. Gardens are very well kept and it’s a very relaxed atmosphere
