Kololi is a great place to base yourself if you're visiting The Gambia. The resort itself is set in large open grounds and the front is directly by the beach so you can walk on the sand and swim in the warm Atlantic Ocean. The staff are generally very obliging and efficient and always happy to give and receive a cheerful greeting. The food in the restaurant is pretty good. I suggest avoiding the "breakfast included" deal as the choice is limited and if you want more than 1 coffee (which is very good) you pay for it. There is entertainment most nights, which varies from really good to very forgettable. There are 3 pools, although one is small and another reserved for people in The Springs block. We stayed in the Stones block, which isn't so good. The shower/WC room is small and a bit slapdash. Our shower wasn't properly finished off. It's quite a walk from the Stones to the restaurant, but that's ok (but beware of falling coconuts from the palm trees overhanging the path). One thing people need to be mindful of is being begged for money by local guys who engage you in friendly conversation. Some of these guys do this for a living so are very good at it. It's annoying and harassing. It puts you off going out as you have to run a gauntlet of these guys on the streets and the beaches. Also there are some genuinely friendly people who just want to greet you without asking for money so it's hard to adopt a blanket policy of ignoring locals for fear of offending the genuinely friendly people. I get why these guys do this. Jobs are hard to come by in The Gambia and the median wage is £187 per month, however, it's annoying to engage with someone in a friendly way and then having to firmly refuse pleas for cash. The unaware could easily lose a few thousand Dalasi (77 Dalasi to £1 at time of writing) on the short walk from Kololi Beach Resort to the Sengambia Strip, which is where most of the restaurants and bars are located. Transport depends on taxis, which can be expensive if you don't know how things go in The Gambia. They're also often mobile wrecks (not all, but it's very, very common) that would have to be scrapped in many countries. That said, you really should travel around The Gambia, which is a fascinating place. If you intend to do so I would recommend using a guy named Lamin Sankareh, who drives an unmistakable bright green Daihatsu jeep with an open back so you can sit enjoying the fresh air whilst taking pictures and videos of what you see as you drive to places such as Banjul and Jungle/Paradise beach. As well as being a good, reliable driver Lamin is a knowledgeable guide. He showed us around the Albert Market in Banjul after driving us there, and his company meant that we didn't attract the attention of those guys who hassle you for money. You can find Lamin outside El Sol restaurant close to Kololi Beach Resort. Just look for the bright green Daihatsu jeep.

If you’re planning to visit the Gambia sometime in the future and still looking for a place to stay, Kololi Beach Resort should be your top option. I stayed here with my friend at a 2-bedroom villa with spacious rooms. The interiors are simple but they release a relaxing vibe. The breakfast? It was so good! Aside from that, the food at the bars and restaurants are also something to look forward to. They have various cocktails and international cuisine. The view of the Atlantic Ocean from the resort is another thing that Kololi has for guests. Since the resort is surrounded by nature (lush greens and the ocean), it makes the perfect getaway for travelers. I will surely go back here once I’m done with my goal of traveling around the world.

The place is way too overpriced which is of course a matter of management rather than the staff. A good adivce is to book over Airbnb rather than booking.com because you can pay in advance. As we reserved over booking we had to pay a 4% fee for credit card use upon arrival. + The rooms were nicely furnished, but had no TV + The staff was super nice and helpful - The location is close to busy Senegambia Rd. which can be really loud at night (sometimes also during the day) - Wifi was not working at all, so if you plan to stay longer or work remotely you need to purchase an Africell plan - The property was not nicely maintained (e.g. stuff from neighbouring building side lying around on the lawn) - Pools have no shade at all and therefore can hardly be used during the midday - Bed was super hard and pierced in our rips -> that was solved by the staff however - No mosquito net infront of the balcony door, although it would be great to have one as the room is rather dark otherwise - Many ants around although we didn't left open packages etc around - The arranged taxi wanted to charge us 400 GMD for a short 5min ride, also the driver said it would be so much traffic. As we know our way around the area and also the traffic during the day we decided not to take him. Rather look for a taxi yourself than asking at the reception As we know many places in the area we can say that there are defintley nicer places, which are better maintained, managed and more worth the price.

With timeshare exchanges over 20 years across 4 continents, KOLOLI BEACH WAS ONE OF THE BEST. We’ve had better accommodation and a slightly better setting but, overall, this takes some beating. The staff are outstanding: attentive, helpful, jolly - well trained, they seem genuine in their interest. THE BEST STAFF WE’VE EVER DEALT WITH ANYWHERE. Our villa was spacious. However air conditioning was not included. It could be hired but, on top of £200 utilities charge, this would have made a total of £400. Despite this omission, the villa was comfortable - after all, you spend most of your time outdoors. It’s location was lovely, just 2 minutes from beach, pool and club house. With both a balcony and a terrace, the views were nice and the sea breeze welcome. Most members have come for decades, bearing testament to this resort’s attraction. However most complain it is not as good as in the past. As first-timers, we loved our stay and hope to be back.

The beach bar and restaurant is open to non residents and well worth a visit. Lots of food options and good food too for lunch or dinner. Nice cocktails and happy hour is 5 to 6pm. Sometimes have a band playing too. Beautiful setting, modern and smart bar and patio area.

Excellent self contained units. Has it's own private beach. A 9 hole golf range, and a lovely outdoor swimming pool. The units are serviced daily. At night there is entertainment, dancing warriors etc. Recommend taking the jeep safari along the beach but if you wander off the complex, even off the private beach you will be surrounded by locals trying to seel you their wares. When returning to the airport be sure to allow the porter to carry your cases if you have breakables inside, otherwise they will be roughly handled.

Kololi beach resort is just an amazing place. Spacious, clean and modern apartments. The food at the restaurant is excellent. But just around the corner there is a variety of restaurants. (try El Sol, my favourite) The staff is polite and efficient. The gardens are lush with lots of birds. Highly recommended.

Great location. Situated on the Senegambia strip. Apartment is an ok size with a small kitchenette which was usable. Apartment was cleaned every other day which was nice. The resort has 3 swimming pools, a bar and restaurant by a private beach area. Lovely well maintained gardens. Only thing I didn't like was how a couple of security guards treated me and my guests. I felt a level of disrespect as a solo black female traveller. I understand and appreciate the importance of security, but it can be done without being rude and condescending.

We were here for 3 nights and very much enjoyed our stay. As it is low season, almost felt like we had the place to ourselves at times. The staff were very welcoming and friendly and provided a great service throughout our stay. The room was nice with a small kitchenette, although the bed was a bit small. We only had one small power cut but the generator kicked in quickly so not much disturbance. The grounds are lush, lots of trees with three pools, plenty of birds around and even a couple of cheeky monkeys. The beach area is so nice and relaxing with a great view of the sea - wifi access was a bit limited but helps you to disconnect from the world for a bit. It’s definitely a great location to base yourself for travelling to other parts of the country. There are plenty of bars/restaurants/ATM/supermarkets nearby if you don’t want to eat at the hotel everyday, which does provide good food at a reasonable price. Thanks for a lovely stay, I’m sure we will be back in the future!

Air conditioning a paid option?!? And this is not disclosed until after check in? And wifi never worked so without phone in room, no communication with front desk. Oh, and no soap at all, much less any other bathroom product. Taken to very warm villa and dropped off without any explanation of anything. AC would not come on. Had to access a remote, unsecured wifi network to WhatsApp front desk because hotel's wifi for this villa never worked for either of Us. Once connected to front desk, was informed that AC was a paid upgrade!! Never heard of such a thing and certainly a BAD BUSINESS PRACTICE!! Agreed to pay extra, so maintenance man sent who actually removed and rewired the electrical box, while I held my phone light to help him because the lights also went out. AC finally on. Did I mention NO SOAP ANYWHERE? We've travelled extensively and this is one of THE WORST lodging experiences ever!! NOT RECOMMENDED because AC as an option without informing a guest is absurd!!

Hotel is nice but don't book "breakfast included" The hotel area is nice and right by the beach. Rooms/Flats are clean and spaceous. There are two things you should know about the place. First, if you book breakfast included, you don't save money - in contrary, it is more expensive. Moreover, you are allowed only one cup of coffee and one type of breakfast. Any extras have to be paid on top. This is annoying in view of the hotel price. Secondly, non hotel guests are not allowed in the flats/rooms. This is good because it reduces the risk of crime. However, at the same time, if you plan a work meeting in the flats, this is not possible.

Been a regular visitor pre covid for 5 years, returned April this year to find service grounds and overall standards to have dropped even gardeners begging for money when on the resort, we expected it on the strip and beach but not from staff.

Everything is quite overpriced, e.g. the rooms (stones apartments) are not well equipped, not really cozy and not really clean on our arrival. Also -at least if you have a room to the front- it is quite noisy in the evenings. The facilities on the outside area are okay but we didn't like it that there was no shade at both pools. Customers should be aware to not get scammed by their taxi service, they wanted to charge us 400 GMD to Coco Ocean and justified that by the claim that it would take one hour, which is not even the case during the worst rush hour. At least the cleaning, security and front desk staff is really nice and always up for a chat.
