👍👍 A great place to spend a few hours with young children. You do need to schedule your time in the Children's gallery, as you only get ~40mins in there due to Covid-19 restrictions, but there is still plenty to keep your little ones engaged. Make sure to check out the Arboretum and seek out the Satin... People often mention kids, Great, play, children, time, area, great, museum, space, experience,

A great place to spend a few hours with young children. You do need to schedule your time in the Children's gallery, as you only get ~40mins in there due to Covid-19 restrictions, but there is still plenty to keep your little ones engaged. Make sure to check out the Arboretum and seek out the Satin Bowerbird. It's bower is currently up the back right corner, and was decorated with lots of blue trinkets. The First Nations gallery is also very interesting for older children and adults alike. There is a really fantastic perpetual motion display (suitable for all ages) of a wedge-tailed eagle with a projected light and sound show/experience (see attached vid). It will transfix you for a good 5 minutes!

Beats any indoor playground hands down. Heaps of sensory and imaginative play opportunities. Love the apple tree arch cubby hut/cave. Digging for fossils was a hit outside. Suitable children under 5 years old.

Great sensory experience for my 14mo old but wouldn't exactly say it's worth the $15 entry fee. Not sure why you have to pay to get in to the museum.

It is a great place to spend time with a child or children as a family. We loved the range of exhibitions and the way they are presented. It is very sensory and engaging. They also have a nice playground in the gallery. Parking fee is lil expensive ($20) but cannot complain about that considering its location. We would definitely want to visit this place again in the future!

Nestled in the western wing of the Melbourne Museum (turn left when you buy your tickets), the children's gallery is a great space for kids to while the hours away whilst parents bury themselves in quality screen time. A dull place for parents and their loyal friends who have tagged along to keep company. An enticing spot for young children to stay distracted and burn off some energy. Recommend taking a nap inside the barrel couches or colouring in 3D butterflies if you get particularly bored.

Such a great place for children of all ages, from babies to older children. Both the indoor and outdoor spaces allow children to explore the environment through a variety of sensory activities through play and exploration. Great value for money, especially if you have a membership.

One of my favourite indoor places for small kids! I've taken my son a few times, when he was crawling, walking and then running. Each time he has experienced it in a new and exciting way.

The museum was one of the best playgrounds we've been to!!! Harry's able to crawl and walk now- and there are just so many kids to engage with; there's interesting music, lights, materials- attracting all senses! There's also a huge playground where older toddlers can play. Plus side is it's inside the museum which means full-entry if you buy the membership (not expensive at all for the family pass! esp. if you go often!). We took a bus to get there, and was convenient. There's a cafe or two in the building, an outdoor play area and the facilities seem relatively clean.

Great sensory play for young children. There's a treetop rope climb for older children. The outdoor area is spacious and has multiple sandpits for fossil digging. It's only free with a museum ticket or membership, although the first time I asked about it, they let me in for free without a ticket (at the end of the day 15 minutes before closing). The only reason I gave it four is because it's so dark! Why??!!! Have some light in there at least!! Otherwise my little one loves it!

A great interactive learning and play area within the Melbourne Museum just for the little ones. Those big kids we call adults will be so jealous of this space. Just remember to book a time as numbers are filled very quickly.

It's located inside the Melbourne Museum. Great place to let the kids free range. If you're there, definitely check out the Titanic exhibition.

I came to visit Australia in 2011 and the first city that I was staying is Melbourne. However, this is my first time visiting the Melbourne Museum. I love the gallery and I could bring my kids to explore and even play at the Children's gallery. They always booked out, so it's better to buy the admission ticket as early as possible

Pretty sure my kids would live here if they could! Something for every little one to enjoy an ample space for nan to sit and watch the kids go wild. Wonderful space, we try to visit regularly with our membership.

Great spot but a bit frustrating that you have to book in (on top of your membership and booking in on the day) plus there is a time limitation (1 hour).

This is a wonderful place to bring young children. It's safe, vibrant, colourful, and stimulating. There are so many different and fun activities for the kids to explore. It's obvious that a lot of thought and research has gone into preparing this gallery. My grandchildren had a wonderful time there. Highly recommend it, and indeed, the whole museum. Thank you.

Good space for kids under 5. Toilet and food nearby. Clean and tidy, a big rope climbing structure and some other things. Nice bubble in water machine on the outside, with a sandpit and some other play stuff. Not utilised as much as the indoor stuff. As a parent I was able to relax for an hour (the time you're given) and the kids were kept busy.

Heard so much about this place and we were not disappointed! It's really fun for children under the ages of 5, with lots of interactive displays and things to do. You get a 50 min play time during your allocated time slot. It's best to come early to get a good timing. It was really packed when we got there. We bought our tickets at 1pm and the earliest available slot was 3pm. I found it a little odd that parents were wearing shoes inside while the kids were encouraged to take their shoes off. There were babies crawling everywhere, so I would think that perhaps it might be better if parents entering the indoor spaces were also encouraged to remove their shoes. Other than that, it's great if you have young kids. 50 mins passed too quickly. Wished we could have stayed longer. 😄

It's a wonderful place for kids to discover and play and grow and explore. Every parent I know has mentioned it being wonderful and I wholeheartedly agree. We went this week and ended up there for two and a half hours. The climbing jungle gym made out of ropes and the touch screens to colour in butterfly wings are particularly wonderful.

An amazing experience for any young bub. Sensory walls, jungle gym, dreamtime stories with projections, sound tables, interactive drawing screens etc etc you could spend hours there. Anything you could think of to spark an interest in your little one in either science, history or creative arts in an environment that doesn't encourage gendering of activities and is very well planned out. Plenty of pram parking, change facilities and helpful staff. The only two recommendations I would make to avoid a possibly negative experience are to try and avoid weekends and school holdiays if you are able (apparently its horrendously packed) and to organise/bring food for your little ones as the food available on site is pricey. However there are a few healthy options if thats not an issue for you. We are truly spoiled to have this incredible facility available at a reasonable price. This is what philanthropy is all about, using abundance to provide the community with access to all the wonders the world has to offer. A truly didactic experience.

  • 1/5 Joseph C. 3 years ago on Google
Very disappointing that most of the play things have been disabled or removed. The feature climbing structure has been closed off. Meanwhile, playgrounds and indoor play centres are fully functioning right across the state. The booking session allowed 50 minutes of play and my toddler was done after about 10 minutes. This was the main reason we had a museum membership and I can see no reason to renew it.

It's supposed to be a safe place for 5's and under to explore. When we visited, there were a number of older boisterous children who were not careful about knocking the younger ones over or pushing them away from displays they wanted to see.

Great day out for the kids (3.5 and 1.5). They easily spent the allocated hour there and also enjoyed the general museum - Dino exhibition. In regards to the children’s area there were a number of older kids who were a bit rowdy and also the toilets/parents area was not clean.

  • 4/5 Lance Lerrick C. 1 year ago on Google
Kids had fun inside. Space is relatively small though without much variety. If time is limited in the Melbourne Museum, this can be skipped as kids enjoyed the other parts of the museum.

  • 5/5 Jackie A. 1 year ago on Google
Love this place for young kids! There's so much for them to do and interact with. There's an open playspace for babies to crawl around with lots of textures and mirrors. Further in, there's a big area with lights, sounds, animal displays and a big climbing section for the 3-5yo kids. Then outside there's some foam building blocks, a big sandpit and plenty of seating. They have a good parents room on site too with a nursing room, nappy change room and food prep facilities. The only downside for me is having to get tickets (included in the price of your museum admission ticket/pass) for the hourly blocks. They can be pretty flexible on weekdays/off-peak about letting you go in early for your session, but weekends can be pretty busy. So for example, if you arrive at 10:30, you can either get a ticket (if available) for the 10-11 session and then go out and get another ticket for 11-12pm, or you wait 30mins for the next session.

  • 5/5 Kamal Kamal M. 10 months ago on Google
A life saver when rainy. Booking beforehand online is recommended, especially over the weekend, but not required. Note that each session is 50mins and if busy they're quite strict with timing, so you may want to get there in time.

I really wanted to enjoy this with my 1 year old, but it is certainly not appropriate for little babies and toddlers. Perhaps adjusting the age range from 2-5 would be more realistic. There were also plenty of older kids running around which made it very difficult for my little one to play safely. We ended up playing in the first little sensory area by the entrance, but this too was spoiled by an entitled mother collecting all of the play cushions for her two older (clearly over 5) children to build a fort with. I think the museum also lets too many people in per session, it was hectic!
