Before I book the room I didn’t check the review from Google Map just find that this one is actually the cheapest among all backpackers in Melbourne CBD. If I did check the review , I probably won’t book the room , because so many people leave one star here. But you should know that you pay what you get. I didn’t expected that much. Especially for such a good location. I have to say that the room it’s not that clean and the facilities are old , but it still works , and the front staff is really kind, he tell me that in the 8 mix dorm I booked are all guys, he offered me free upgrade to a 6 girl dorm if I like. And also I checked out at 4 am, they also come so quick when I press the button. In conclusion , it’s old backpacker but functional. 5-6 min walk to southern cross station , good for catch the early flight by sky bus. Tour could book from the reception.

I've been in this Hell for two weeks now, having my check out tomorrow morning and I gave the second star to this hostel for compassion. So,this hostel is absolutely illegal by any hygiene and health evaluation system; The rooms are quite ok,6 to 12 bed dorm smelly rooms, and I found a small death companion(a rat),next to my bed in a rat trap on the 11th night here, but the receptionist was helpful on that, demonstrating availability on removing the trap straight away. Amenities: One of the most awful things in this hostel are the amenities(toilet, shower, etc.),and I'm not usually so sketchy about this, but You'll probably lose Your will of having a proper shower in there. Kitchen and common area: The kitchen looks fine at the beginning, except for a few scarfaces in the nighttime, but nearly anybody wash their things, especially after 8 pm; There's no natural light in the kitchen, and there are some stairs going down in a basement, that should supposed to be the common area, but I've just been there for not more than 5 minutes, because of the smell, and the bad enviroment. Location:the location is one of the best in Melbourne(205 King St),but this couldn't compensate the other lacking unfortunately. I would not suggest this place to someone, even if the price is really competitive. The day of the check in,a cute receptionist jumped in my room after 20 minutes to have a look, and came out with a phrase like:"why I could smell weed in this room?",I found it also anti-professional,cuz my herb was probably the best perfume in this Fu**ing hell. Some photos are attached,to proof what I wrote in this review, fortunately I've got the check out tomorrow morning. Hope is gonna be helpful to someone. Nick

I’d never slept in a crack den before I stayed here, but now I can tick that off of the bucket list. Pros: We were not murdered in our sleep. Lots of people to bond with over a glass breakfast. Blood on the walls was a lovely decorative touch and the glass in the bed added character. Cons: The place exists. It’s usually free to stay with the homeless. Building didn’t collapse on us to end our suffering in there.

Just looking at the residents smoking outside put me off, its a crack den, the hostel next door seemed far more decent

This is by far the worst hostel I have ever stayed in. The whole place stank, the mattresses and sheets were disgusting and worn out, my bunk bed had no ladder, the bathrooms were remarkably inadequate, there was no ventilation whatsoever, and no proper common area. The only upside was the fast WiFi.

NEVER STAY HERE! Booked to stay in the hostel under the misconception that it was a 4* listing. However I arrived at 3 because check in was after 2 only to find the only man apparently authorised to check me in had gone off to do whatever he was doing. I said I needed to check in now because I had things organised - something they both didn't care or really understand about. They offered for me to wait in the 'common room' which was a dirty concrete basesement with no windows or clean objects. I tried again, but apparently only the manager could handle this 'busy day' which was a queue of three. Against my better judgement I came back and let him check me in. He wanted $30 for key holding policy which obviously I refused. Instead I was handed a sheet, a pillowcase and what was meant to be a blanket and sent up to my room. And the room... ripped dirty mattress, weird smell, men who kept drawing the curtains to keep it dark, and a very friendly homeless man who had covered his entire bed in plastic bags of stuff. No disrespect to him, but imagining that was my bed made my skin crawl. Everything was filthy. I didn't even ask for a refund. They can have my $40. Also there was a boy at check in complaining because he came back and there was a man in his bed. He was asking for his passport and a refund to which he was getting nowhere. This is a halfway house, which is fine, but don't pretend to be a backpacking hostel.

cheap price shity place. 1)The rooms in 2nd is floor have really strong moldy smell . 2)the toilets are very dirty .I tired to use public toilets instead 3)Unstable hot water. I have to shower in cold water(the staff said because it is too busy ,while it happened during 7pm 、1:30am and 9:30am which seems all the time) 4)When it rained,my room's light didn't work. I have to stay in dark for hours to wait for the manager to fix the problems.(and the last night it can't be fixed I have to change to another room at 10pm and my flight is 5am the other morning!!) The location is good and some staff are nice.

0/5 Worst place I've stayed in my life. Filthy, smelly, and most of the guests are shifty. Guy in my room was just openly smoking in the bed. First thing I see is a massive dead cockroach on the floor. Bathroom had no toilet paper. Would have rather slept outside.

Wish I could give it 0/5 stars. Just wanted a place to stay for six hours between catching a flight and a train. Nearly slept on the street rather than stay here. Place was filthy, toilets blocked and overflowing onto the bathroom floor. Whole premise was filthy, unsafe and unprofessional. Disgusting. Cockroaches running around. Beds were noisy, walls thin, mattress stained and torn. People in and out of the dorm in the middle of the night. Noise from the pub next door was horrendous (was a public holiday).

It's a hostel and cheap. Pretty much what you would expect at a low price. The staff was great though but the place was a mess. No door knobs on the toilets, you have to use one of those metal latch things to lock them and the showers looked atrocious. My fiance and I made it through a night so it's not too bad.

Its a cheap place, and comfortable, for one night, unless you don't care for mess and cleanliness. Then knock your socks off and stay there for longer. I was a little annoyed that everyone (even hostel staff) were in and out of the room all night waking other guests (assuming long term) for cigarette papers etc.

This was the worst hostel we have ever stayed in!!!!!!!! Our room was full with BED BUGS!!!!!!!!!!!!! My friend is still recovering from all the nasty bites on her whole body. Never ever go to this hostel. We wrote an email to the hostel about the bed bugs and they did not even bother to reply. The staff was unfriendly and not welcoming at all, they did not provide any information. The room was dirty and smelt bad. The bathroom was a disaster, when you flushed the toilet the water was leaking and there was no tap on the basin. I am very surprised that this place has not been shut down......Seriously never go there!

Worst hostel so far! The dorms and bathrooms were extremely dirty and it smelled bad in there. Didn't feel comfortable at all and changed the hostel after one night.

Not the best I've stayed at but it does have a family vibe which you can find in the kitchen and TV room. Not many rooms, bathrooms are shared and look like they need an update. Conveniently located around the strip clubs if that's your thing. Bus stop and convenience stores are close by which was great. Alright for a night or two.

I found the place good value for money even though in the middle of renovations. Guests from all over the world with many cooking styles. People of all colours & religions including Aussies having a great times & laughs about life & living in Melbourne. & absolutely no racism.

I checked in hostel and put my stuff inside the room and went out. The receptionist told me where is my room and that is it. When I came back to the hostel around 2 am. The main door was closed. There was written on the door in case the reception is closed call following number... Number did not work. I was knocking at the door and was standing there 15 min. While was raining outside. I didnt get in to hostel. Following day I came back and complain. Receptionist told me I could use other door which he didn't mention before and it wasn't written on the main door either. I asked for refund. Unfortunately I was refused. Also I asked to speak to manager and the receptionist told me that he is the main manager which was clearly lie! Than I spoke to maintenance guy and he asked for my details and he said he gonna postpone it to manager. I was waiting couple of days and no call no reply. Other day I came back to hostel in the afternoon. The reception was closed and there was bell to call personal. Again none come!

Unsanitary. Humidity. Trace of organic matter (white) on sheets. Open window in the bathroom. Ineffective curtain. Strange welcome. The one who gave 10 out of 10 is definitely him I think.
