The Key West Cemetery is alive with history, one-of-a-kind grave markers since 1847 (& a couple transferred from old Key West Cemetery, various lizards, roosters & chickens, strolling visitors, international airport jets flying low overhead (landing approach). Still an active cemetery, including cemetery tours or self-tour maps. Admiring the unique headstones/foot-stones, humorous quotes, “Remember the Maine” disaster memorial, plus will take hours, if not weeks. A “Run-A-Way Bill” Favorite Key West attraction. 03.21.19

So much history in a beautiful public cemetery. If you enjoy the craftsmanship and have respect for those that have left this world you will not be disappointed. Be sure to look at the Jewish and Catholic burial areas and explore the farthest corners on foot.

Really great old cemetery. See if you can find the grave of the man who lived to be 108 and lived 65 of those years as an honest man. The rest of his years were lived as a privateer! What stories he must have been able to tell.

This cemetery is actually pretty big in size in relation to all of key west. If you are not of fan of lizards, iguanas, etc, I would not come as there are little ones half the size of your hand up to the size of a small dog and they live underneath the graves and in the trees. Other than that it was interesting to take a 5-10 minute walk through and see it. There are graves a century to a century and a half old in there!

Great old historic cemetary that's crawling with iguana's. A must see while visiting Key West and to pay respect to the dead. This place has a nice memorial to the sailors that paid the ultimate price in the Battle of Havana Harbor on Feb. 15, 1898. The cemetary was relocated here long ago since it's the highest point on Key West and less apt to flooding. Worth a visit. FYI its separated by religion so take some time, each section has its own uniqueness.

Nice place for a walk, Interesting history. As with all Key West nowadays, parking was a pain.

A nice bike ride through the cemetery. the Iguana's are huge and abundant here. I wouldn't call it "Peaceful" the roosters are trying their hardest to wake the residents there :) The tombstones new and old are a sight to see.

It seems odd to review a cemetery, but this is a must see when touring Key West. Sad but interesting to see the above ground burials and the varying levels of caretaking and the breadth of people who have been laid to rest here. You will experience a range of emotions as you walk from the section where 59 unknown babies were sponsored and buried, to the section where many adorned their placards with verses that will make you laugh (ex: “I always said I would own a small piece of land in The Keys”). Well worth an hour or so of your time.

Interesting but erie place to visit in Key West. Home to over 100,000 deceased people, 4 times the population of Key West itself

Absolutely beautiful, unique, and peaceful cemetery. Lots of iguanas and other lizards to see. Old, and interesting Graves and headstones. I had never seen so many above ground graves.

Why am I reviewing a cemetery? I'm not sure. It's open every day, and many of the epitaphs are entertaining. You'll recognize names from around town on every other headstone.

As a bit of a taphophile, I enjoyed walking this cemetery for an hour or so on a warm sunny winter day. Key West Cemetery has a variety of above ground and below ground graves in various states of repair. Even if you are not a "cemetery enthusiast" Key West Cemetery" is worth a visit.

Very cool historic cemetery open to the public. I'm from the Midwest and don't often see above-ground graves, so this was unique. The path throughout the cemetery is well-paved and clear. Lots of lizards hanging out here and some beautiful monuments. I also spotted the first headstone I've ever seen that appeared to be hand-written in the cement.

Tranquil place teaming with life amongst the dead- birds, iguanas, bantam chickens, beautiful flora and fauna in this place. Many people were traveling through- on foot, by car and on bicycle. Very historic place where the great, wealthy, poor, blacks, whites, Hispanics, Jews, Catholics and Protestants are buried. On the highest natural location in Key West.
