If you've read my posts you know my wife and I love aquariums. Bottom line here...this is a tourist point. In my opinion, it's not worth the money. It was over $40 for the two of us, and there's not much more than a small main hall. There is an even smaller outdoor area. The is a small touch tanks and a very small shark tank. It a nice little place and the staff are very engaging and knowledgeable, but it's just hard for the price .

The Key West Aquarium Is Very Cool! It was cool to go there and learn the science, learn the history, and see all the beautiful fish. Definitely worth going to! Have a great day!

Fun little aquarium. We liked that we could take our dog. Our ticket was good for the day, so we could come and go as we wanted. The aquarium is showing some age, but all the staff were phenomenal. Very knowledgeable and friendly.

Nice small aquarium to take in while visiting Key West. We were there during fish feeding time and were able to feed the fish. Great information about the fish and habitat in the area. We were able to bundle the ship wreck museum that is right outside of the aquarium with a discounted price for both. There is shopping attached to the museum for the gifts needs.

Key West is a wonderful destination for families with children of all ages. Between the great outdoors and the fantastic museums around the island, you’ll never be at a loss for fun, interactive attractions that will keep kids entertained just as much as parents Get up close and personal with Key West’s marine life at the Key West Aquarium. Located in the heart of Mallory Square, there are many hands-on experiences to be had. You’ll meet moray eels, barracuda, grouper, tropical fish, conch and sea cucumbers with narration by the museum’s expert guides. For families with animal-loving kids, this is a must-do.

This is a neat little aquarium that shows off some local species, but it operates as a sea turtle rescue too. All of its turtles are too injured to ever be released back into the wild, so part of what your entry fee covers is giving them a home. One turtle has even been there since the 1970s! No it's not large and doesn't compare to stuff like the National Aquarium in Baltimore or even Ripley's Aquarium of Myrtle Beach, but it's still worth a visit to support it and see some neat local stuff. The staff is very friendly and happy to talk about the local species they have there. It is also the only place I ever had a fish that was clearly watching me... like it was planning....

Possibly my favorite place we visited during our week long stay. We all really enjoyed the museum. The touch tank is especially fun and we got to see everything from sea turtles to a Burmese python, many types of fish, shark, stingrays, and more. Very large gift shop and it's in an area close to Mallory Square with places to grab food and drinks nearby. Absolutely recommend visiting the aquarium while you're here!

This is a small aquarium and it’s a little pricey for what’s there but that’s probably to be expected in an area that thrives on tourism. Still, it’s not a complete waste of time. There are some interesting fish and sea creatures there including nurse sharks and some obviously rescued sea turtles with missing limbs. It’s kid friendly and the air conditioning provided a welcome break from the Florida heat. Some of the tanks looked dirty and not well maintained and that was a shame but if you love marine life or are looking for a place to take kids while on vacation there, this isn’t a bad choice.

Very nice aquarium. Would be great for a small rainy day trip. Very educational and enjoyed each exhibit especially the sea turtles. I wish they had actual placards up about each exhibit and animal as waiting for the full sideshow on a monitor was slow and did not always include the animal of interest.

We had an amazing time! This is a small, older facility but the staff (and their animals) really make it amazing, educational, and interactive! They have talks about different conservation topics throughout the day. We spent about an hour there and listened to 3 different talks; one about sharks, one about turtles, and one about invasive species. I am an animal keeper at a zoological facility too so I really loved seeing the aquarist’s relationships with their animals. They have a Kemp’s sea turtle (super rare to see as they are critically endangered) named Lola who was getting shell scratches by her doting staff. The touch tank educator was so nice and helpful, a joy to talk to. During the shark talk we were even able to feed their Nurse sharks and get to know them, Lucille was my favorite! It was just an all around awesome time for any true animal lover! They are doing amazing work with conservation and education. Definitely worth seeing and supporting! ❤️🦈🐡🐢🦀🐠🐍🦐🐟🐙❤️

The Aquarium is overall a nice experience, the staff is very kind and passionate about their job. It’s one of the few places in Key West where you can bring your kids, if you have them. I wish it was bigger, they have an inside and an outside area, part of the last one is closed, hopefully they’ll open it soon

I enjoyed my time at the aquarium. The tour was so informative. I actually like this aquarium better than the bigger ones. It's a personal feeling. The tour guide rocked. I didn't feel like she rushed the tour. We were able to ask questions. You can tell they love & care for the animals.

I think two stars is generous because this has to be the biggest waste of time. I honestly think this aquarium should be completely free to the general public because there isn’t much value in it. Maybe costing nothing would’ve curbed my complaints because it truly did not feel as if this was money well spent. There wasn’t that much to see or do and before you know it it’s over. This is an activity that ends before it even begins and it’s sad that they have an actual price tag attached to something so underwhelming.

We enjoyed meeting Rocky and hearing his story. The turtles to the side of the pond were a hoot to watch. We walked out the back and didn't see anything, not sure if the exhibits were empty. Nice small aquarium.

The aquarium itself was small, which is understandable given the area. However, the tanks were not nearly big enough for the animals. One of these tanks was extremely small, but housed 6 full sized sharks. These sharks are barely given enough space to lay down next to each other, let alone swim comfortably. Additionally, both turtles are missing limbs, and instead of giving the turtles prosthetic limbs, they allow the turtles to struggle to swim in a straight line. Don’t go here if you have empathy for animals.

The key west Aquarium is located in a historic building. For the price you pay it is a good deal. However, there is not many aquatic animals to look at. BUT the staff is very informative, which makes the trip worth while!

Reasonably priced. Nice activity for a rainy day. The kids, of course, loved the touch tank. Lots to see. Good variety. There is a bundle deal with the museum across the st. (Which i didn't know) so make sure you take advantage of that.

Definitely worth visiting, we stopped by on our last day in key west because I wanted to play in the touch tanks. We got there about 30 minutes before closing. Even though it was so close to closing time the staff were friendly as ever. We were asking a member of staff, I believe his name was Davon, some questions when he offered to take us outside and let us help him feed the fish off the back. It was very cool and he was very knowledgeable about the animals in the aquarium and in the ocean behind the aquarium. Even with my grandmother bothering him with lots of questions he never seemed irritated or hurried and answered all of them. For his service alone we would visit again, not to mention the gorgeous animas you see there.

Really nice, although fairly small, aquarium! Mom and I visited and had a really good time! They seem to really care about conservation, the staff is really knowledgeable, and were very friendly and helpful during our visit. We got to listen to several interesting talks and feed their nurse sharks. Definitely recommend!

Small little aquarium for a $15 walk thru, doing some construction so there will be a bit more to see sometime... I like the storyboards, tell you about the animals and what's going on with our seas... Some pretty cool looking fish, sharks, turtles and more... Here are pix of just about everything you'll see there plus their Gift Shop...

It’s a very small place... I mean I get it, everything in Key West is relatively small (apart from cocktails maybe;-) but this plus the fact that part of the outdoor exhibit is under construction makes it the least exciting thing on your Key West ‚to do list’. Picture I posted show literally everything there is to see...

We always love coming here. This is the oldest aquarium in the US and for that it is in very good condition. They deserve the funding to keep this amazing place in top shape. Shout out to all the employees you were all extremely helpful, and the guide was very informative. Will come back every time I'm here!

A little over price but I didn’t mind. The care for the turtles and other local creatures is worth the price. There’s both indoor and outdoor demonstrations/education. It was definitely worth it to get out of the Sun/heat for break and a little peace and quiet. I enjoyed the videos above the exhibits.

Small aquarium but enjoyable. The shark conservation speech was thoughtful and at the end you get to feed nurse sharks. There is a touch tank and good information next to each tank. Even with the small size, I think the interactive talks from the staff really help out the aquarium.

  • 1/5 Emily P. 3 years ago on Google
Definitely not worth the money you pay. It's one room full of just little fish tanks and then a small area outside. Coolest thing were turtles and alligators. Not much to see there.

This charming Aquarium has a lot of history behind it. Construction began during the Great Depression and it opened in 1935 as an open-air aquarium. Today, there is a roof and A/C over the main gallery which was much appreciated in the August heat. The Aquarium offers live shows, such as Shark Feedings and is a fun, educational way to spend the afternoon. Perfect place to bring younger children as the size is not overwhelming, yet there are a variety of exciting sea creatures to see.

Sara gave a great Tank Talk while we were there! We learned about a few different types of conchs and chocolate chip star fish. We loved walking by each tank and looking at each setup. There was even a coral nursery which is very important. You can order ahead online and get a combined ticket with the shipwreck museum at a discount. They even said it would get you a two day admission but we went yesterday and we're heading back to Tampa today. But if you had kids or you wanted to get out of the sun or absorb some AC that might be a good idea!

  • 5/5 Justin B. 1 year ago on Google
Small aquarium but the staff was awesome. The aquarium had lots of exhibits for its size. It has a large walkway out back to feed fish and had a manatee visit while we were there. We got to feed the nurse sharks while visiting and watched the stingrays being fed. They noticed my son enjoyed the tortoise and brought it out few times while we were there. Part of the aquarium was being repaired/remodeled at the time we visited unfortunately. I would definitely visit again.

Had an awesome time at the key west aquarium! My husband and I have been to tons of aquariums and really enjoyed this one. The ticket prices were affordable (and very accurate given the size of the aquarium). If you are looking for a huge aquarium with lots of visuals and interactive wall games/stuff for kiddos- this is not the one. But it is a great way to use about an hour. They have a decent touch tank, tons of cool fish to look at, and pretty frequent shows. We were able to see one of the staff members do a shark feeding and that was cool. Very knowledgeable and funny. Felt like he advocated for the local area and taught us stuff we had never heard before. Highly recommend checking it out if you get the chance.

Any chance I get to go to an aquarium I take it. This was adorable, and beautifully done with local species; It's not often you get that. It was really well done and in a good location. Currently here all the way from Michigan and it was fun seeing all the local species. Did the joint ticket purchase for the shipwreck museum. Love that my aquarium ticket was good for today and tomorrow and the shipwreck for anytime this week and got a deal doing it that way.

Though not very large, this was one of the coolest aquariums I have visited. The displays include a variety of ocean-life and are well-marked by clear signage and interesting and informative facts. There's an outdoor section of the aquarium as well where people can view sea turtles in larger enclosures. Staff at the aquarium were super informative, entertaining, professional, and kind. Our group learned lots from Davon, Sarah, and Gentrie. Whenever I visit an aquarium or a zoo, the thought of wild animals living in an enclosure always makes me cringe, but several (if not all) of the marine life living here were injured in the wild and wouldn't make it on their own. The staff here truly do their best to make their rehabilitation and living situation as pleasant as one could imagine. At the outside section, we watched a staff give a shell-rub to one of the sea turtles- seems like a pretty good life to me. 🐢🐟🦈

Small aquarium in the heart of Key West. Lots of varieties of fish to see that are in the local waters. Have educational talks throughout the day you can join in on. Takes about 1.5 hour to go through the whole thing even at slow pace. Glad we can say we visited one time.

Cute and very small aquarium. About 15 dollars for an adult. You can see the whole place in under an hour. So why 4 stars for an aquarium not much better than your local Bass Pro Shop? DOG FRIENDLY is why. My dog had such a good time! He was very excited to check out each display and to try and chomp the fish (through glass). The best part was the turtle and shark tanks in the middle of the building. Watching him freak out and bark at the large sea turtles made it all worth while.

Neat little old aquarium. Very small. Not worth the money but I guess worth the experience. They have some cool species. Definitely the shark feeding is cool. The outside in the back is still damaged from the last major hurricane so there is no admittance out there. This poor place needs funding!

Went today. Did not know the aquarium was so small. 1 room with about 20 tanks and two big pools. 1 big pool outside and that is it. Took about 30 minutes to look at it all. Wish we would have been told about the back area not being open. The price was expensive for what was offered. A few tanks were leaking as well.

While small this aquarium has a great local variety and helps spread a wonderful message of conservancy. They have a nice variety of fish in the aquarium including a kid friendly touch tank. There are a few sea turtles there also which enjoy swimming around. I had my dog with me on one trip and the green turtle actually acknowledged him and swam over to get a better view. It was a very fun moment with puppy and turtle looking at one another. Another huge advantage is that the aquarium is nice and cool which adds a bonus on those very hot Florida afternoons.

This is a tiny aquarium. A lot of the tanks were dirty, and difficult to see through. They did have a few odd/unique fish, and we saw the nurse shark feeding, but honestly it was disappointing. It appears that part of the aquarium is closed off for renovations and upgrades. The other thing was that almost all of the "plants" and all of the "coral" were fake... For a place with tons of swimming reefs and open snokle parks I would have expected that the aquarium would have gotten permission to host live coral and plants. I did not feel like this was worth the cost of entry given its location.
