This is the best place to stay in Summit by far! Why stay at a big hotel when you can get the feel of real authentic mountain town living. This home has amazing views and is located in a cute neighborhood within walking distance to shops and restaurants. The home has couches you can lounge on, relax and watch a movie, or you can play a few games of pool. The home also has a fully-equipped kitchen if you want to spend a night in and cook. The rooms are always very clean and comfortable. And if you love dogs, you may even get a chance to meet Brody- the sweetest chocolate lab in town.

Great stay with fun people. My wife and I enjoyed the central location to everything with a bus stop close by, brewery within walking distance and other amenities within walking distance as well. Our private room was secluded enough and comfortable, but the best part was the interactions we had with other guests and the hospitality provided by the host. Look forward to coming back again soon.

Spent a week in the bunk room in January during a ski trip. This is a first rate hostel, actually more like a B&B with some single and double rooms. It's in a large chalet-style house in a residential section of Silverthorne, and reminds me of European B&B's I've stayed in. There's a large parking lot which was well plowed of snow when I was there, and a coded entry to come and go freely. Chris the proprietor keeps everything easy and professional, yet laid back, from reservations to checking in to checking out. I had the run of the house including several bathrooms, two kitchens, and two large lounge areas. Everything thing was in good working order and very clean, with a tasteful and laid-back decor that was both classy and relaxing. Don't be fooled, Chris puts a lot of effort into making it that way and it was appreciated. I especially appreciated the use of the well stocked, well organized kitchen as I was on a special diet (Keto) and cooked quite a bit. Paper towels were always in abundance - a sure sign of a well run hostel. Dishes were cleaned every night and Continental style breakfast and coffee were laid out every single morning in time for the earliest rising traveler. Had use of a sweet gas stove, two big fridge's upstairs and down (curated to eliminate the build up of perishables which constantly accumulate in shared accommodations) and a commercial drip coffee maker with two carafes. Nice. There was plenty of bathroom space, the four bunk coed bunk room had a good sized one adjacent with a shower and there was an additional sink vanity in the room. The bunks were compact but adequate with good mattresses and excellent frequently-changed microfiber bedding was provided along with towels and wash clothes. Not palatial but certainly enough space for four folks and their winter gear. Only one electrical outlet but it had a multi-outlet adapter with an end table for charging stuff. The other rooms were of course more spacious and private, something for everyone. I Interacted with more than a dozen others throughout my stay, and felt like I could be as social or private as I wanted. Other guests ranged from early twenty-something to older folks, some couples, some groups, some loners, mostly American. From in and out of state. Some were quieter and some rowdier but no one was unpleasant or unfriendly or disrespectful of others. Colorado is you know a ganja-legal place and when I arrived there were four snow-border bros who must have emptied out the local dispensary. Chris doesn't allow smoking inside and has signs reminding users of what's legal and sensible but when it's below freezing outside the bongs of course tend to be close to the entrance and the smell is inevitably strong. The air quality improved somewhat with their departure at the close of the weekend. Knowing from previous visits that Summit County has a real traffic challenge especially in the winter months I resolved to try a car-free week and did not regret it. I took the popular Epic Mountain Express shuttle from the airport, and though the driver had not been to the Mountaineer previously he was able to drop me at the front door without difficulty. Thereafter I used the excellent free county bus system Summit Stage for local transport to and from the ski resorts, downloaded the phone app for real time routing info. There's a stop for the local loop of the system at the end of the street at the beautiful modern city recreation center (where one can purchase a day pass to use the gym, pool, hot tub etc) but that bus is not particularly useful. There's a bus hub about a ten minute walk away across a pedestrian bridge over a small river. Walking is what you would expect in a mountain town covered in snow. The sidewalks are generally excellent and they are plowed frequently, traffic is heavy in spots but drivers seem particularly careful of pedestrians. However there was a rough stretch with construction where the sidewalk was not plowed. I made the walk a dozen times in ski boots with pack and skis slung without issue. Highly recommended hostel!

The Mountaineer is the best stay in Summit County. Chris keeps it in immaculate condition, and throws in complimentary breakfast. Full amenities, impossible views of the Shining Mountains, easy access to trail heads, and the ski resort themed rooms add a nice touch. We'll be back!

Wow what a fantastic place! Just when you thought the front range resorts were over-crowded and unaffordable, the Mountaineer has come to the rescue! The house itself has a perfect layout with several living and dining areas, kitchens on both levels, wraparound deck with gorgeous views, and of course a great yard for hot tubbing or hanging out in the summer. Owner Chris was overly accommodating and even told me where to get the best IPA and a delicious breakfast. Five stars!

Great hostel - a little on the pricey side but you get what you pay for. We had a king bed and a private bathroom. Owner is super nice and there is a resident dog who’s very friendly. Kitchen was nice and large with breakfast both mornings. It’s basically a large bourse converted into a hostel (for spacial understanding). I would highly recommend staying here - would absolutely stay here again!

Home away from home! It was like visiting friends in the mountains -not your typical "hotel experience" Chris was an amazing host, providing a laid back and friendly environment. The rooms and bathrooms are immaculate. Convenient location and beautiful views from the hostel common areas. We would definitely recommend this place to others and stay here again!

This place is awesome and the owner is great! I went the first time for a work retreat and my team absolutely loved it - great for large groups who want a more intimate atmosphere than your standard hotel room(s). I then went back again with just my husband and we enjoyed it just as much as a "small group" - you can hang with other guests as much or as little as you want. It's very open and the vibes are good. The place is clean and safe and also super affordable. Not much more you could ask for. Highly recommend!

This place is great! The view from the deck yields some spectacular sunsets. The rooms are clean and spacious. The backyard is great for lounging and meeting other travelers. Chris is an extremely accommodating host and very knowledgeable about the area. Give it a try, it will not disappoint!

Great stay. We will be back. My son and I stayed here for our first ski trip out west. Chris was a wonderful host, helpful with the recommendations and definitely made us feel at home. This place is close to the everything. Short drive to A Basin, Keystone and Copper mountain. Can't say enough good things about the Mountaineer.

Great location--lots of restaurants, bars, breweries, and shops within walking distance, and you can sit on the deck and watch the sunset over the mountains. The room and bathroom were very clean and accommodating--unfortunately the hot tub was not working this time around, but I won't let that sully my rating because I'm sure the owner is more disappointed than me in that regard. Overall great experience, would recommend to anyone who wants to experience Silverthorne.
